I am the pastor of a small church in Chicago, IL. My wife and I enjoy horseback riding and country living!
Bill & Celia Crowder purchased this house in 2011
Our home is located off of a cul-de-sac on a small channel leading into Shipshewana Lake and we are just 8 minutes from downtown Shipshewana and all the Amish shops as well as the Blue Gate restaurant and theater. We are secluded and quiet, especially during the late Spring through early Fall months when the woods block out most of our older neighbors, most of whom are gone during the day. There is plenty to do in the area: Shipshewana is a bustling Amish village with close to 100 shops and specialty retailers and many home-style dining establishments that serve bountiful Amish fare. Shoppers can search for handcrafted items, baked goods, antiques and more in picturesque turn-of-the-century storefronts and enjoy seeing horse-drawn Amish buggies clop through town. Every Tuesday and Wednesday from the first of May through the end of October, the Midwest’s largest flea draws serious shoppers and the simply curious. The Blue Gate Theater hosts some of the best in Southern Gospel concerts and several musical plays during the year. The Hudson car museum will take you into the past as you walk the rows of cars. Don’t forget the Heritage Trail that takes you throughout the area. We love to spend our vacations here and hope you will too!
Imagine yourself sitting on the deck overlooking the lake, listening to the 'clopping' hooves of the Amish buggy horses with a cup of coffee in the coolness of the night. Imagine the cheese factories and Amish bakeries minutes away!
How peaceful it is here! We enjoyed the flea market, the Round Barn Theater (in Nappanee) – it was fantastic! Thanks for the extra day!
This is our second time to stay here. We so enjoyed the quiet time, and the beautiful views. Saw lots of turtles around the lily pads and even met some neighbors. Our Granddaughters were able to play outside and catch fire flies, they ran bare footed in the grass, and played until 10:30 at night. We were able to sit outside on the deck and enjoy the view. The cottage is the perfect size, and has everything a person could need. Thanks you for making our stay extra special...
We had a fantastic vacation. The house was all we expected and then some. The peace and quiet was very relaxing after a busy day of sight seeing. We seen a turtle, geese, toad and a racoon. One afternoon we were visited at the kitchen window by a beautiful doe. The next afternoon was unforgettable, two gorgeous peacocks strutted their stuff in the back yard (yes I said Peacocks). One gave us a big show by flaunting his beautiful tail. If I return to the area I will definitely want to stay here again.
We really enjoyed our stay! The cottage was as described and met our every need. The home was secluded and quiet. And yet we found the home to be close to shops and restaurants in downtown Shipshewana. The lake views of the changing colors were exceptional! as we enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck. We will be back!
Everything was as promised. The house was neat as a pin, clean, and everything we needed was there. The location was excellent in that it was right on the lake with a great view and it was very close to Shipshewana. The best review I can give it is I would definitely stay there again.
The house is old and settling very unevenly, but very clean. The settling affects the second bath's door, we found it very difficult to close. The most disappointing thing is the "Fishing along the shore...", the cat tails and or wild grass is so over grown that it is difficult to even get to the water and once you do the lilly pads are so thick it is almost impossible for a young child to cast, we tried twice and called it quits and I have to agree with ananymous the water did not smell all that good.
The house is not over or under sold, it is actaully what they promise, would I stay again no, however I am sure many people would.
The cabin was okay, There was no firewood to sit by the firewood and I guess he wanted me to pick up fallen down wood to keep the fire going. The lake smelled really bad so you can not swim or fish. The house only had two bath towels to wash yourself I have very long hair and it takes me two towels alone also there was only 4 pillows 2 per bed and they did not have pillow cases. Really I think I would have been happier with a hotel with house keeping. No cable or internet so don't plan on going on a Sunday because the whole town shuts down and you have nothing to do there. The owner said you hear the crickets and the horses clopping down the street well no amish live that close to hear them and you just hear frogs. I was going to recommend my mother and I go there for my birthday but, now I think I would rather stay at the nearby hotel.
