Overview

Overview

Prince Edward County Cottage Rental Photos and Description

A cozy cottage with spectacular 180 degree view of Lake Ontario, located near Picton and Bloomfield, in the midst of town and wine country.

This water side house was inspired by and has been recently restored to the feel of a gracious turn of the century upscale sea side Guest house with extensive use of cedar and vintage wood on the interior. We call it “West Water Place”. It is located conveniently in the beautiful water front vacation town of Wellington Ontario, on a quiet street directly overlooking majestic Lake Ontario. West Water place offers a stunning uninterrupted 180 degree lake view from every room and cool breezes when the summer is hot. It’s just steps from shops, restaurants and ideal for cycling to wineries as well. In addition, this small town meets all your daily shopping requirements, food store, pharmacy, and vegetable market, LCBO, all within easy walking distance from your cozy cottage.

Watch the sun rise over the famous Sand Banks Provincial Park while listening to the waves breaking along the gently sloping limestone shore .A perfect place for swimming, directly in front of your house, or body surfing/ wind sailing when the winds are up.

Enjoy the long summer night from the sun room or deck admiring the moon’s reflection on the lake, and the melody of the happy sound of the waves.

This luxury vacation home offers all modern day conveniences, and has been totally updated in every way. As you enter into West Water Place you are welcomed by a large open concept living room/dining room with original beam ceilings, old pine floors and a comfortable mix of antique furniture. You will be greeted with an unobstructed southern exposure view of the beautiful Lake Ontario from every room. Directly off the dining room is the well laid out kitchen equipped with dish washer, antique pantry/ sink and all cooking utensils ready and waiting for the cooking enthusiast, again with a full view of the Lake. After a busy day on the deck or entertaining friends, satellite TV. and VCR awaits you to relax and catch up on the news or take in a movie.

A spacious main floor bedroom suite with double bed and attached three piece bath with walk in shower and washer dryer adds to your convenience and is ideal for seniors or those who are stair challenged. A beautiful antique door leads directly from this room to the large deck, for you morning coffee or viewing of the wild life on the water in front of you. (Our favourites are the swans)

Best for last , completing the main floor is the majestic sun room , with wall to wall traditional windows featuring an amazing view of Lake Ontario, as if you were gazing from a cruise ship onto the ocean. This is the room you will use for breakfast and lunch or to sit in out of the sun or weather, all the while enjoying the breathtaking view, and the sound of the waves.

The gracious stair case with antique banister, the kind you used to slide down at grandmothers house, takes you to the second floor where there are two additional large traditional bed rooms each equipped with a queen size bed and a single bed, again with two windows in each room overlooking the lake. The upstairs spacious bath room features a claw foot antique tub with shower and vintage sink. All bed rooms have fine linen and fluffy towels, always fresh and clean. The spacious hallway provides plenty of closet space.

The large south facing ground floor level lake view patio deck, directly off the sun room and ground floor bedroom, is complete with BBQ, and wooden Muskoka chairs, and has a large cast table and chairs ideal for outdoor dining , lounging with a book, or just taking the sun.

You will love it.

I spent a week at West Water Place with my partner, daughter, son in law and two nine year old grandsons. This is a beautiful spot right across from the water where we could swim, suggest water shoes as there is a lot of flat rocks, my grandsons spent hours skipping stones on the water. This is a well equipped, comfortable house, that feels homey. It is convenient to Main Street, Wellington where there are restaurants, especially The Tall Poppy for great baked goods, and healthy food, grocery, farmers market, beach, cycling trails and 9 hole golf course. On arrival, the owner met us and gave us a quick tour of the house, which was very helpful. I would most definitely stay there again.

This was our second year renting West Water Place and we have nothing but great things to say. First the owners are most helpful in every way. We have found the house spotless and fully equipped to accommodate 6 adult female seniors ( and we are pretty fussy). We were able to walk to excellent restaurants come home and enjoy the view. No matter where we went, shopping, wineries, beaches etc. were all excellent. We plan to return next year.

Heritage Home Experience & a Lakefront Getaway - All in One!

Heritage Home Experience & a Lakefront Getaway - All in One!
  • 5 of 5
A family of 5 adults aged 64 to 25 stayed the week at this cottage. When we first walked in, the 2 oldest murmured, "this is rustic - it's old!" - but the younger members of our group absolutely loved the place! All week we heard, "gee, wish we owned this place as a home!" Within a few hours of arriving, we all felt the ambiance of this wonderful heritage home, fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, and cuddled up at night in the spacious living room. A very peaceful feeling to the place. A fully modern kitchen, had no problems with the dishwasher as indicated in other reviews (and we used it a lot). Beds were super comfortable and everyone slept well. Close to shops, restaurants and beach - spectacularly located for a vacation. The house has exceptional noise reduction - you move from one room to the other and cannot hear a thing in the other rooms - new homes are not like this! Enjoy this ambiance - for those of us from Western Canada, we don't experience it often. One note: there is no air conditioning so you rely on fans - however, this ended up not being a problem in mid-August so should be OK.

Absolute Perfection

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I just spent a week enjoying this beautiful cottage in Wellington, Ontario. The photos do not do it justice as it is even more beautiful in person. The cottage is a perfect mix of old world charm and modern conveniences, it has absolutely everything you need for a perfect lake front vacation in the county. It is in an ideal location right on the water so you can look at the lake all day long without ever leaving the cottage - every room has an amazing view! The cottage was very clean and had all the amenities you need. It is in a perfect location close to everything you need in the county while being on a quiet lakefront street (we were able to bike or walk to almost all the attractions we visited during our stay). The cottage owners are an absolute pleasure to communicate with as well and did everything to make sure we had a lovely stay. We loved our vacation and if we ever visit the county in the future, this is where we hope to stay again!

Not as advertised

  • 3 of 5
I booked this cottage based on the description on this website and found that the description is definitely exaggerated. The location was convenient ad the view of the lake lovely but the condition of the cottage was a big disappointment. It was definitely not "restored" but was apparently undergoing restoration. For example: there was a baseboard missing in the upstairs bathroom and through the gap you could see down into the kitchen, several of the old vinyl floor tiles in our bedroom were loose or missing, the dishwasher was not properly installed and tilted forward when both racks were pulled out, the shower curtains needed replacing and the pedestal sink in the downstairs bathroom was unstable. It was definitely not the lovely place shown in the cleverly arranged pictures or described in the write-up.

Owner's Response: We have five rental properties available in the beautiful village of Wellington, Ontario.
In all the time we have been in the seasonal rental business, this is the only negative review.
We contacted Wendy directly by phone in an effort to respond to, and resolve her concerns and were surprised to see this review had been posted.
We can only feel this was a mismatch of expectations, we have a modern brick bungalow, only a few hundred yards along the shore from West Water place, furnished in a contemporary theme on a large private lot overlooking Lake Ontario. Wendy might have found this accommodation more to her liking.
West Water place is exactly as presented, an historic 135 year old house, with a spectacular view of Lake Ontario just feet from your deck. It has undergone a full restoration, not to be compared with a renovation, utilizing only vintage material, such as wooden sash windows, doors, repurposed lumber, open exposed wood ceilings etc., all designed to create a “Turn of the Century Sea Side Cottage” experience, yet with all modern conveniences such as new modern wiring to code, modern plumbing, heating, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors etc.
Part of the charm of the cottage comes from the open exposed wood ceilings, at night you may see lights flickering through a crack where the boards join together in the plank flooring.
The bathrooms have vintage period porcelain fixtures secured to the floor by lag bolts the Bathroom walls are finished in bead board down to the cedar plank floors , no baseboards
The photographs of West Water Place are exactly as shown. What you are seeing is exactly how the interior and exterior of the property appears , with the exception of one thing, a photo cannot express the” feeling” or “ambiance” of a place, something that West Water has “in Spades”, as per the many texts, emails, and positive reviews from satisfied clients.
We will continue to offer a spotlessly clean,” get away theme” experience to our clients, exactly as described in our VRBO site. We stand by our description and rely on our many satisfied clients. West water place is booked to capacity year in and year out, including repeats.
We wish Wendy only the best of health and happiness and it pains us when any one is disappointed with their holiday choice.
We received, coincidentally, an email from a lady who stayed at West Water place the week after Wendy’s stay, she has stayed at many cottages and West Water was her favourite.

We had a great time at Jasna's place. It's even better than the pictures. The place is beautifully furnished and comfortable. We spent lots of time in the sunroom enjoying the views and sunsets. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and we will return. Thank you again Jasna and Mike.
