A traditional stone 16th century building, with features including vaulted stone ceilings, carved 'Lecce stone' fireplace and an original 16th century fresco in the kitchen. Recently renovated, the downstairs is open plan - lounge, dining room, pantry and kitchen - leading into the downstairs double/twin bedroom. There are two well-appointed bathrooms, with instant gas hot water. Upstairs a charming, large, low-ceiling bedroom has two beds plus a trundle bed if required.(Note: the ceiling in this room is low. Kids love it; tall people may bump their heads.) Completely private walled garden, with sitting area and barbecue. Five minute walk to shops, cafes etc. This is excellent value accommodation for a family or group of friends. Fully furnished, with bed linen, towels, crockery etc. It's clean, spacious and quiet, situated in a semi-private courtyard with parking for a small car. An English speaking caretaker is nearby to help with any problems.

A two bedroom self-catering house off a courtyard in Galatina's historical centre. Explore Galatina's cobbled streets and Baroque architecture, including the 14th century Santa Caterina and 16th century San Pietro cathedrals. Treat yourself at local bars, gelaterias and pasticcerias: the historical centre is all in easy walking distance. A short drive to either the Adriatic or the Ionian coasts, both of which boast miles of stunning scenery, sandy or rocky beaches, and azure water, offering your choice of safe swimming, diving, sailing or snorkelling. This region of Italy has some of the country's cheapest, simplest and tastiest food, featured, for instance, in 'Jamie's Great Escape' and by Rick Stein. Fresh seafood in abundance, locally grown vegetables, inexpensive local wines, and olives mean you can eat out or in, cheaply and healthily. Catch one of the local festivals, such as the traditional Pizzica music festival in Melpignano or the many traditional religious processions.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: The rates quoted above are for a party of up to four people. If you have five or six people in your party, there will be an extra charge for each of these extra people. The weekly rates for each extra person are as follows: Mid season: £65 per person (per week); High season: £75 per person; Low season: £60 per person. (These are weekly rates and a proportional nightly rate will be calculated if appropriate.)
  • We prefer a minimum rental period of 3 nights. However, if you wish to stay for just one or two nights, please ask.
    A deposit equivalent to two nights accommodation is required to confirm your booking, with the remainder payable on arrival. We can accept bank transfers and UK cheques or PayPal payments.
  • The house is looked after by a local English speaking person who lives within five minutes walk. She will be happy to help with any problems or questions you have and will meet you to open the house and give you the keys.

  • One bathroom is off the living room, the other off the downstairs bedroom. Each has a basin, toilet, bidet, shower, mirror with light, electric plugs (for razor/ hairdryer). Water pressure is good and hot water is supplied by instant gas water heater. The house is currently on bottled gas but town gas is being connected this year.

  • Each of the two bedrooms has two single beds. The upstairs bedroom also has a small sofa bed and a day bed with a second (trundle) mattress underneath: any of these can be moved to the living room downstairs if required.

Notes: We have noted that the house is wheelchair accessible: the downstairs rooms are all level, with tiled floors and should not present a problem. However, the back garden is less suitable as it is gravel and there is a step down into it from the back door. Furthermore, although there is disabled parking nearby, Galatina's streets are cobbled and narrow: this may well present problems for wheelchairs. The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are quite steep and the floor upstairs is uneven. There is no TV or internet access, although there is an internet cafe nearby. There is a small selection of books (please feel free to add to it) and a pair of small speakers you can plug your MP3 player/ipod into. Scrabble and playing cards, and a few beach toys are available to use. House is furnished and has linen, towels, crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment, etc. There are some UK electric plug adaptors, electric mosquito repellents and two mosquito nets.
