Peaceful and convienent

  • 5 of 5

Stayed by myself for 4 nights and enjoyed it. It's rustic but had what I needed - coffee maker, fridge, running water, lovely birds singing in the morning, beautiful sunsets, and no loud children. Lots and lots of coqui frogs so first night was hard to sleep. Traffic noise was louder than I expected but I found you can't get away from the traffic noise anywhere on the island...just too many trucks going uphill making deliveries. Would love to go back.

Owner's Response: Hello Ruth, I appreciate the constructive feedback on Bird Lover's Garden Hale. I am so sorry, I was unaware that the coqui frogs had become a nuisance. I've contracted with an abatement professional to address the issue. Also, the traffic noise seems to be intermittent, and I have never known it to be an issue on or in the property. I appreciate your feedback and I would love for you to return for another visit! Aloha, Cynthia

2 weeks of magic

  • 5 of 5

What a rare joy to stay in the Bird lovers Garden. Incredible panorama, magical garden and privacy. I can't say enough about our stay. My wife's comment says it all, "the most wonderful vacation of my life".

Far enough away from the madness of Kona and perfectly located for someone who likes to snorkel, visit the local farm stands and eateries along the highway.

The apartment is cozy, with beautiful views, art and private. Cooking is an adventure, but we spend a lot of time on a boat with limited kitchen facilities. and the food available in the neighborhood made eating gourmet meals easy. What a lovely interlude

Charming location with excellent view

  • 5 of 5

This is not the place to stay if you want a sterile chain hotel ambiance. It is, however, totally charming, comfortable, cozy and enchanting. There is a stunning view that the pictures do not do justice and lots of birds, geckos and frogs. From the deck we watched the whales feed and play in Kealakekua bay. The bed was comfortable and the showers were hot. The outdoor kitchen gave it a bit of a camping feel and was terrific for meals that you don't want to eat out. The cool breeze and cool nights because of the higher elevation are great for helping you sleep. Would definitely choose it again.

This is a wonderful property with a billion dollar view. The studio is perched up in a fabulous lush garden. It offers solitude and peace and a very comfortable bed! Loved it.

character but not being mantained

  • 3 of 5

I so wanted to love this place and give it a high rating, but I just can’t. Overall it is ok, but not great. The biggest issue is that the location on the map is NOT accurate. Location is actually right off highway 11, on the north side; it’s wrong on the map to the point that it appears to be purposefully misleading. Traffic noise is not an issue, but you do hear some.

Overall, this rental is inexpensive and has character, but is not being well maintained. The cleaning is decent but no more. The kitchen wiring is sketchy.

What this place has going for it is that it’s relatively inexpensive and the views are gorgeous from bamboo lanai and deck. The outside kitchen is simple and basic, as listed. However, there is no hot water to the kitchen sink, just cold. But the big problem in my mind is that everything is just plugged into extension cords and power strips. No way it could possibly be up to code. When I had the microwave going and turned on the toaster over, it tripped the breaker. The fridge is pretty new; the microwave and toaster oven are getting a bit old, but do work (just not at the same time!). The outside table and chairs on the deck with the kitchen, so the table and chairs to eat at, are rusting.

It’s basically clean, but not clean in the corners and under things. I picked up a fan off the floor to move it and it was covered in dust, as was the floor behind where it was.

There was a 2 person kayak for use (but no rope to tie it on your car), a couple of aging beach chairs, and some new snorkels and masks. It is nice and close to awesome snorkeling and beaches.
