Best View Ever!

We are not the types who enjoy staying in large hotels or resorts (they make us feel we are on business trips), and so this hale met our needs in every way during our one-month stay. We've traveled extensively for over 30 years, and the view from this secluded and cozy hale was the best of anyplace we've ever stayed. This location was conveniently close to some of our favorite snorkeling spots, Kealakekua Bay and Two Step, and we always looked forward to relaxing on the deck and in the garden area in the evenings. The icing on the cake was that the owner was extremely pleasant and accommodating, and we are grateful to her for sharing her beautiful home with us.

Commanding View of the Kona Coast

This rental certainly fulfilled our wish to have a non-condo experience of the islands. Unlike the sterile condos for rent down along the Kona coast, this place is well up in the hills, at about 1,800 ft, where it is cooler (no need for A/C) and the views across the treetops are spectacular. From here the view takes in the Kona shoreline from the Cap't Cook monument southward, some 25 miles or more.

We took advantage of our rental car during our week-long stay and visited many of the points along the coast that we could see from the veranda. We hiked the rugged trail down to the Cook monument one day, snorkeled at Napa'opo'o Park another day and then explored the lava bed tide pools at the City of Refuge (Pu'uhonua o Honaunau) National Park on a third. Each of these day trips was an easy drive from the rental. Also handy was having a full-size grocery store only about two miles away on the main highway.

Of course the view is out of this world! Peaceful, restful and very private. Great outside sitting areas as well as a great deck with functional kitchen. Close to great coffee shops and good food, as well as beaches, parks and fun drives. Loved the COFFEE SHACK which is
just north of the house. Owner was very helpful and property was well maintained and clean.

Secluded love shack amongst the mountains

Great room for those wanting to get away from the conformist hotel chains. A small room, very basic but up high above Kona in the mountains. No matter how basic the room, the view was INCREDIBLE You awake to glass double doors of a 250 degree ocean view from 1000ft up. Sunsets, sunrises and seclusion. Great for a romantic get away. The kitchen was outside but I loved this! Making coffee in the morning with that view as stunning. Not good for families as the drive up is extremely steep. You need a car for this place! Just next to the drive is an amazing coffee house with Kona coffee and the same amazing bay views whilst you enjoy your choco macadamia pie!

Wonderful place for nature lovers

This place is great for people who love peace and beautiful views. Thanks to the lanai with the outstanding view, we spent most of the time outside and used the room only for sleeping. The temperature in the mountains drops at night so nicely even in August, that we did not need to run an aircon (a fresh, natural mountain breeze is just nicer). The view over the ocean is amazing, the birds in the backyard lovely, the sunsets reliable. There is lots to do nearby (e.g. snorkeling, hiking to Captain Cooks) and also a good choice of restaurants (from basic local to upscale bistro). The owner is also very nice and readily available for questions.
