Located just minutes from Woodstock, the Lake hill area is as private as it gets. With only the sound of the creek and our waterfalls, the house is beautifully furnished yet comfortable. Frette sheets in the master bedroom...Private swimming holes, rock ledges for sunbathing and trout fishing on the property. Bear sitings not uncommon. Skiing just minutes away. Includes large separate recreational playhouse ('man cave') with arcade games, pool table, pinball machine, dart board, etc.
With four children, ages 17 to 23, we know how wonderful our Lake Hill home is because all four love being there.
Ruth Lapin purchased this house in 2011
Living in Brooklyn made us want a quiet, peaceful place.
The garage is actually the surprise we created to lure our kids up to Lake Hill. Great for a rainy day or a very late evening...and no neighbors to complain about noise.
A Home away from Home. We spent nearly a week at the Dream Log Home. Ruth the owner was so special working with us to prepare for a wedding barbecue for a large group. She was so helpful I felt like she was a good friend. She and her husband make you feel so at home and relaxed while using their home. Exceptional in all aspects. You could not find a home in Woodstock that offers more. Beautifully furnished, fully equipped, well maintained. The patio/fire pit setting along a stream surrounded by torch lights is a You, your family and friends will enjoy the added benefit of the Man Cave (entertainment center) The private setting located at the end of a long tree lined road is so tranquil yet close to Woodstock life and events. Our event went into the night and outdoor lighting added to the event. Caretaker is very friendly and readily available. Our son's wedding was held at the Byrdcliff Barn and Theater. and Sunday Brunch at The Bear Cafe only minutes away. Starting our wedding week end at the Dream Log Home was perfect. This home is ideal for a large or small gathering of family and friends as well as a romantic couple get away. Treat you, your family and friends to spending time at The Dream Log Home. We hope to do so again in the future. We spent hours looking for the perfect location in Woodstock. I can assure you this is the perfect one in all aspects.
We just spent a long weekend at the house and can't say enough about it. It was more than comfortable for 6 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs. The house is beautifully furnished and the "mancave" is even better than the pictures on the website. It comes with everything you'll need. Just pick up some food and drink for grilling each night. But as nice as the home and mancave are, the patio/grill/fire pit area overlooking the creek and waterfalls was my favorite part. So quiet and peaceful. I can't wait to return when the air/water are a bit warmer to try the swimming hole out. The house is secluded down a long driveway so we felt comfortable letting our dog off leash to wander and explore the woods without concern that he might end up near a road/cars. Just a forewarning, you won't receive keys to the house. So when you leave for day trips you leave the house unlocked. As an urban dweller who is used to locking his door when I leave for just 5 minutes, it took a little getting adjusted to this. But the owner seems to be right, the house is secluded and far enough off the road that no one is going to come visiting the house. That being said, we all really had a great time and agreed we would love to return.
This is second time my sisters and I stay in this idillic get away. We had been been looking for a place in the woods to celebrate our annual ritual "no husbands - no children" and we have found it! The place is elegant, cozy, and has the most amazing amenities, the kitchen and bbq area make our little sister the chef extremely happy. The creek is a nature lovers paradise and served plenty of inspiration to this photographer, plus the swimming in the summer is simply divine. The sun light comes thru all day and our middle sister, an avid reader, picks her favorite book and collapses in the couch for the duration of the trip.
The owner has been so attentive and has made our stay so pleasant, she even allowed us to stay an extra night last year because we could not face leaving.
We have now decided to come back every year, for as long as this lovely owner allows us. We might even consider bringing the herd next time... Well that is a big maybe.
This is an amazing property; maintained in every detail. The property is a perfect hideaway. You will not hear traffic, just the relaxing sound of the creek with waterfalls that you can hear from inside the house! How beautiful to have such lush surroundings and only hear the waterfall and at night, the crickets. The porches are equipped with rockers and comfortable adirondack chairs. The lawn was freshly cut upon arrival and perfect for games with the kids and dogs! The gardens are the perfect mix between natural and manicured. Inside the house is rustic luxury. You will feel overwhelmed and cozy at the same time. While fully equipped, it's true, there is absolutly no cabinet space available, but plenty of room on the counter if you don't mind stuff out in the open. The furniture and accessories are of high quality and minimalist, which is nice as you are not overwhelmed by the owners belongings, yet it feels like home. There is a private master suite with a landing, however it is not very soundproof and the bed is a little creaky. The kids below could hear our every word and the dogs pacing. Throughout the visit, the dogs were very aware that there were "wild animals" outside, and barked, growled, and paced. It disrupted our sleep to a great degree, but we were so happy with the relaxing, beautiful environment, that the lack of sleep did not matter. The "man cave" is AMAZING! So much fun! We could not get any Wifi out there so no cell and the apple tv was useless, but my husband was able to hook up the blue ray player and we could watch dvd's. My husband and his cousin set up a recording studio and had an incredible time working on some tunes. Unfortunately, we were not given keys to the 2 buildings during our visit (found out the night before our arrival) and he opted to bring less expensive equipment and gear with us as we were unfamiliar with this rental. While I would agree this location is extremely safe, I would recommend not to bring anything expensive or irreplaceable as you have no way to lock it up. We also locked ourselves out of the garage twice! The caretaker let us in each time, but we lost a few hours of the garage by not having keys. The swimming hole is HEAVEN. I sat by myself and painted, but more importantly, the teenagers and dogs were drawn down there to play repeatedly (over and over). (and over). We enjoyed ourselves and our enormous deposit required to rent, was refunded within hours of our departure. Love this piece of paradise!
My family of 4 (husband and 2 kids, 9 and 6) spent a week at this property for spring break. Contrary to some of the reviews, we found this property to be very kid-friendly. The house and man cave are nicely furnished. There are some breakable items, but what house doesn't have that? The house is definitely lived in, which means it has all of the necessities and extras to make a stay comfortable. We found the owners to be reasonable to our various odd requests and responsive when we called them. The surrounding property is beautiful. I wish the weather had been nicer so we could have enjoyed the patio area with a beautiful view of the river running behind the property. Our GPS wasn't able to find the place exactly but we got close enough. Make sure you bring a copy of the written directions with you just in case.
The biggest drawback we found was that there was no tv in the main house and the ancient tv in the man cave was not connected to a cable box or satellite dish, so it was only good for watching movies. The owners did have a modest variety of DVDs to watch in the DVD player in the man cave. This was more of an issue for the kids early in the morning and late at night, but we worked around it with our Kindle Fires. The tv would not support any modern game consoles in case that crosses your mind. It seemed like a big miss for such a beautiful man cave but the arcade machine (Ms. Pac Man and Galaga) and a Terminator pinball machine kept us all entertained. The pool table is beautiful as well. They also have a dart board, which we kept the kids away from. The man cave is quite a way away from the main house, which wasn't an issue for us but might be for families with smaller kids. It also took a while to heat because it's HUGE but this won't be an issue in warmer months.
The hiking behind the house and along the side of the river was great fun. It's also close enough to town to enjoy all Woodstock has to offer when you feel like it. I highly recommend this property and owners.
We had 4 people in our party and the house was perfect. It would easily hold. 6-8 especially with the recreational barn. We played bocce ball on the large well manicured lawn, grilled dinner on their new weber gas grill and ate on the wooden table that sat on a large stone patio. The water was a little low for fishing but we were able to sun bath on the rocks and take a dip in the swimming holes. We had a very relaxing experience and will eventually rent again. Thank you again to the home owners!
