Clean Scottish self catering flat
Self catering in Fife - there is so much to do: A Fife self catering holiday has much to offer. Take the ferry from Anstruther harbour to the Isle of May at the mouth of the Forth estuary, to see the wonderful bird life (puffins and gilliwaites). Visit the beautiful village of Falkland and the palace, where Mary Queen of Scots played 'real' tennis (on the world's oldest court). Visit St Andrews and walk the famous Old Course, which is closed to golfers on Sunday but open for anyone to walk and enjoy the scenery. The town has much to offer, beautiful university buildings and quads, a ruined cathedral and castle, lovely pubs and restaurants, great shopping and the famous 'Chariots of Fire' beach - an absolute must. Stay at this Scottish self catering holiday flat and visit the coastal villages of the East Neuk of Fife, such as Elie with its lovely beaches, see the harbour and galleries in Pittenweem, sample the famous award-winning fish 'n' chips in Anstruther and stroll around the harbour (and try the fresh lobster) in Crail.
Scottish self catering, a home from home: When you are not out sampling the delights of the area, Mackenzie's is the perfect Scottish self catering holiday home. It is perfect for dining in, utilising the well equipped kitchen to turn out fantastic meals and serve them on the beautiful oak table looking out onto the garden and patio. Take advantage of the weather. Fife has its very own micro-climate and has less rainfall than other parts of Scotland. It's one of the reasons so many artists are based in the area along with the excellent light. The garden is south-west facing and during the summer months is perfect for barbecues (there's one in the garage). Curl up with a good book, there are plenty of those too, and be nice and toasty as this Fife self catering apartment has a fantastic central heating system to keep you warm on chilly nights. At any time of year, Mackenzie's in Fife is the perfect Scottish holiday home away from home.
We live in South Yorkshire but have been holidaying in Scotland, specifically the Fife area and Edinburgh for the best part of 25 years. We love the area, landscape, coastline, countryside, scenery and of course the people. It's a warm and welcoming place with lots to do and see.
David & Christine Chafer purchased this apartment in 2008
We had the opportunity to buy a holiday home in 2008 and this beautiful flat came up for sale after an extensive refurbishment - absolutely everything in the flat was new, all we had to do was furnish it. We called it 'Mackenzie's', to reflect David's family history: David's middle name is Mackenzie, after his maternal grandfather Jock Mackenzie who came from Inverness, making David a quarter Scottish - but he's not owning up to which bit! In the apartment you will find various items of Mackenzie memorabilia.
Mackenzie's is a fantastic location. The village of Upper Largo is quiet and peaceful, but has a handy local shop and a pub/restaurant just around the corner. The layout of the apartment with three separate double bedrooms, separate lounge, dining room and kitchen, with a large garage, plus patio and garden, just make for an ideal base to explore Fife. It's also a lovel walk over open countryside down to Largo Bay and Lower Largo, which has two great pubs/restaurants too. It is also brilliant for golfers! (David's a bit keen!). For Mrs C, she loves moseying around the villages and particularly St Andrews, for its history, views across the beach, cafes, restaurants and shopping! Also, it's only an hour to other great places to visit such as Edinburgh, Perth and Stirling. For us it's just a perfect combination for a holiday in that part of the world. We try and visit around three to four times a year and just love being in Mackenzie's and soaking up the delights of what the local area has to offer.
Lovely property with excellent facilities, beautiful bathrooms and bedrooms. The flat was very cosy and welcoming, well decorated throughout, not your typical holiday let. Bedrooms were well equipped with plenty of wardrobe space, sockets ideally placed etc. Beds were very comfy with crisp clean bedding and extra blankets. Ideally situated to explore the East Neuk of Fife and surrounding areas. We would not hesitate to recommend this flat and are already planning our return trip.
The property was a lovely home from home with excellent facilities. Beautiful kitchen and bathrooms and decorated to a very high standard. The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms were very cosy with plenty of wardrobe space. The Upper Largo Hotel served excellent food which was very reasonably priced. Upper Largo is ideally situated to visit the East Neuk of Fife and surrounding areas. We will definitely stay here again.
Well worth a visit and would recommend to friends and family.
The apartment provided plenty of room for 2 adults and 3 kids. The kitchen was very well equipped.
A spotlessly clean, well equipped home from home. The perfect base for the golfers and walkers in the family to explore the many courses and trails nearby in this beautiful corner of Scotland. Time permitting we would have stayed longer to take advantage of the proximity to Edinburgh by train. Our only slight disappointment was that after a day at the Ryder Cup, the local hotel & restaurant was fully booked for supper & we didn't feel like getting back in the car, even though there are restaurants not that far away - just not within walking distance.
The owners were very helpful, getting back to us quickly with answers to any queries we had when looking for a place.
Thank you, David & Christine, for a most enjoyable stay.
Enjoyed a great family weekend in this apartment. Good location for eating out, beach etc. Apartment was spacious and well equipped. Will definitely use this one again. Thanks.
We were a party of 5 adults and the property was very comfortable and well equiped for us all.
The beds and showers were very good quality and the whole property was extremely clean. The attached garage was really useful for storing all our outdoor equipment and for drying our wet coats and boots - yes we did have some rain during our stay but still managed to get out walking on the stunning coastal paths and swimming at Elie. Very easy to get to Edinburgh and St Andrews as well.
This luxury Scottish self catering flat is in the pretty, quiet, village of Upper Largo which lies on the southern slopes of the 290 metre high Largo Law. A sandy beach is 15 mins walk away or less than 5 mins by car. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance, whilst this Scottish holiday home is ideal for golfers, families or couples. Stay in this Scottish self catering apartment and you are only 15 mins drive from St Andrews - the home of golf, fantastic beaches, shops and restaurants. If you are looking for a Scottish self catering holiday, Mackenzie's is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife and for golfers there are over 50 courses nearby. Edinburgh, Perth, Stirling and Dundee are all within an hour's travel time. Whether you are a family, couple or golfer, and want lots on offer, but would love a quiet, peaceful Scottish holiday home, Mackenzie's in Fife offers the perfect Scottish self catering holiday.
Golf: Fife is the home of golf, with over 50 courses to choose from all within less than an hour's drive. St Andrews, the most famous of them all, is only 15 minutes away with seven course to choose from. Other 'big' courses to try include St Andrews Bay and Kingsbarns. But also check out other gems, such as Lundin Links, one of the world's oldest links courses and just 5 minutes away from Mackenzie's. It sits on Largo Bay and is a true links course with a beautiful clubhouse. Also 5 minutes away is Charleton, a parkland course with wonderful views across the Firth of Forth. Along the coast there are superb courses at Elie and Crail, whilst inland there is the wonderful Ladybank. Also check out Leven, Kirkcaldy, Burntisland and Dunfermline courses.
