Peter (energy engineer) had spent many childhood vacations in Inverness. Anna (editor) discovered it as a college student at UC Berkeley in the 80's. The wild, romantic beauty of Pt. Reyes' moors and beaches captured our imaginations even before we met. One thing led to another and we were finally able to realize our dream of having a place of our own. Inverness is not for the faint of heart - it's unpredictable - at times foggy, cold and moody, other times sunny and exuberant. Here we find peace and inspiration. Even our teen boys look forward to unplugging and chilling out. We currently live in Oakland, California.

Anna Edmondson purchased this house in 2011

Multiple bay-windows with views from the living room/kitchen of Tomales Bay through the trunks of Live Oaks on the bluff. Place offers a combined feeling of beach house and tree-house.

A WONDERFUL PLACE

  • 5 of 5
Very comfortable and furnished with excellent taste, right on the bluff above the bay in one of the nicest parts of Inverness. The house is impressively well-organized and everything is up to date. You can take a couple of great walks right out the door (up the hill or to the beach) and we liked that there were two mountain bikes available for rides. Anna is really friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

MODERN AND COMFORTABLE

  • 5 of 5
Extremely comfortable home with modern touches everywhere. The open spaces in the house, the well-equipped kitchen, and the pleasant interactions with the host made this home a big favorite with our guests. We didn't get a chance to use the hot tub, but I can only imagine it would be great on a cold Inverness evening. A hearty recommendation from us.

CHARMING HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
We recently stayed in this house for two nights to attend a wedding in town. The house was absolutely charming and well located, in addition to being clean, comfortable and well stocked with all of the amenities you could possibly need for your stay. The wifi worked great. The house has a beautiful view of the water and Shell Beach is a short hike down the road. The owners were friendly and easy to deal with, and the overall experience was terrific, and we will definitely return to this house again.

THOUGHTFUL, ARTFUL, COMFORTABLE

  • 5 of 5
Everything we could have wanted in the kitchen, and elsewhere, was right at hand - spices in the pantry, cookware, wonderful library of books and vinyl albums. We could have stayed a month, just exploring the books & music! Cozy woodstove, lovely front garden, view of the bay between trees in back, comfortable beds.... perfect for two couples, with additional beds upstairs for a young family (a double & two twin beds....I said "young" family, because the attic steps are steep!). Wi-Fi was flawless. Weather was so nice, we didn't get a chance to use the ping pong table in garage. We felt so at home, we're coming back next year!

WONDERFUL RETREAT FOR FOUR WOMEN WRITERS

  • 5 of 5
I stayed here with four friends this past weekend, and we could not have been happier. The home is spacious, clean, is well equipt with anything our hearts desired: spices, spare food, sharp knives, plenty of cutting boards, wood for the wood stove, extra blankets, and because we had sun - a nice garden to sit in and relax. It even has a nice view and a hot tub. I could have moved in.

INVERNESS WEEKEND ESCAPE

  • 5 of 5
This house can be described in a single word - PERFECT. All the required amenities, fantastic views, superbly equipped kitchen, great propane BBQ, tons of magazines, and actual vinyl records of the great classics of R&B & Jazz (+ even the famous Let's get small by Steve Martin as a junior standup comic).

Very clean & tastefully decorated, the pictures provided on VRBO are a true reflection of what awaits you. After awakening from a restful sleep in any of the comfortable rooms, have your breakfast in the semi-shaded front garden with birds chirping nearby - a great way to start the day.

The hosts provide plenty of information on nearby coastal hikes or other outdoor activities. After come back to this welcoming house and relax with a glass of wine in front of a nice fireplace, or walk down the steps to the secluded beach. I heartily endorse this home to anyone looking for an affordable and uncomplicated getaway in a charming location. P.S. For anyone who likes oysters, you gotta be sure to stop in at Saltwater Oyster Depot restaurant in Inverness - less than 5 minutes drive - possibly no fresher or tastier Oysters exist anywhere else west of the Mississippi.

My only regret was that we had to leave so soon :(

Car: necessary

This lovely rental in the Seahaven district of Inverness is a 7-minute walk to the romantic, wild, yet sheltered Shell Beach, perfect for an afternoon picnic or early morning walk. Hop in your car and you are minutes away from all the beaches and sights of Pt. Reyes National Sea Shore. Kayaking, paddle-board, and sailboat rentals on Tomales Bay are 3 minutes away. An oyster fan? Head to Marshall and buy delicious oysters to eat there or bring home. For meat lovers, excellent choices at Marin Sun Farms in Pt. Reyes Station. Our favorite short hike is the Firetrail from Old Inverness - like walking through a Chinese watercolor of windswept pines and craggy stone walls up to Mt. Vision Road and views of the Pacific Ocean.
