A newly renovated apartment within an historical Georgian townhouse

The property is located on Great King Street, one of the finest Georgian terraces in Edinburgh. It is a 5-10 minute walk from George Street and Princes Street where the best shops, restaurants and bars are located and the Castle is a 20 minute walk away. The apartment is on the first floor (one flight of stairs) of a traditional townhouse. The accommodation comprises a living room, kitchen, 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The superb living room has floor to ceiling windows, marble fireplace and decorative ceiling plasterwork has a large dining table, sofa bed, TV and DVD. The wonderful modern kitchen includes a dishwasher, electric oven and washing machine with built-in dryer. The main bathroom has a 'jacuzzi' bath and there is the second shower room off the master bedroom. The second bedroom overlooks the rear of the property with views to the north of the city and the third double bedroom (includes a single bed) faces the front of the building. Parking is available on request.

Excellent -- in all regards !

We stayed for 9 nights with a diverse group 9 (7 grown-ups and 2 small children) -- and had a marvellously good experience.
The location is extremely convenient when wanting to explore various parts of the city : both Princes Street and Royal Mile are in walkable distance even for a 5 year-old ! The Botanical Gardens are really just a short stroll, and Newtown itself is, of course, a spectacular place to reside.
Good stores for excellent food are simply around the corner. And the highly recommended Scottish restaurant is less than 2 minutes by foot.

The kitchen area is wonderfully spacious, and allows the chef du jour to communicate with the rest of the party lounging in the very spacious living room. Of course, the high ceilings have their impact : we felt high spirited the whole time !

Communication with Francois, the owner, before our arrival has been very easy and efficient : for example, because he could personally not be in town as we arrived, he had arranged for someone else to let us in, and help us settle in -- and all of those details where communicated to us in good detail, such that we had no problems even arriving a little tired after our 20 hr journey.

The garage came in extremely handy -- and is again just such a short stroll away.

Beautiful home on wide cobblestoned street

We just got back from a wonderful 10 day stay in Scotland. This apartment is about a 20 GBP cab ride from the airport. The cabs in Edinburgh are generally spacious, so it was no problem loading 4 regular pieces of luggage plus 4 carry ons.

The location is very convenient. It is remarkably easy to get a cab at the corner just a few steps away. We took daily excursions out of Edinburgh and would meet at the Royal Mile, the cab fare from the flat would be between 5 to 6 GBP. Since there were 4 of us it was quite economical. It was still cold, (we were told it was unusually cold for early April), but had it been warmer it would have been nice to stroll to the historic center.

There are several nice restaurants within an easy walk, but if you want to save on a meal check out the corner convenience store and pick up a plump, delicious, very filling chicken samosa for less than a pound each.

The flat was very bright and well equipped. If there would be anything to improve it would be wireless internet in every room, we found that it only worked in the living room. Since the living room was roomy, bright and pretty, we enjoyed having to hang out in our "study hall" to access the internet.

Fantastic Apartment

We rented this apartment for a week with our 2 girls and my parents and were not disappointed! Well maintained, bright even when rainy, spectacular high ceilings. That week was particularly cold for the season, but the apartment was well heated, very cosy. It is also well equipped (2 bathrooms, kitchen with all appliances you need). The apartment is very well located, within walking distance of the center, and a bus stop around the corner. There are convenience shops and great restaurants a few blocks away. Francois, the owner, was very helpful, and there are a lot of books, brochures of things to be done in the area to make your stay enjoyable. Would definitively recommend!

Apartment in Great King Street with high standard

We arrived at Edinburgh Airport and informed Francois about our arrival. He politely excused himself for not being able to meet us and guided us on how to get to the apartment and where to get the keys. Entering the apartment we were really pleased with the cleanliness that could be noticed immediately. Our stay had a duration of only 3 nights and it coincided with a Rugby International Game. This incidence was the cause for an uplift in the price of the accommodation but it was still worth the stay. Our group consisted of 2 senior citizens and 4 adults. We were really comfortable. The flat was equipped with anything one may need. I would suggest Francoise to add a toilet brush in the shower room and some sort of wardrobe in the front bedroom. Also maybe a couple of Non-Stick frying pans. Our stay was so complete that we never needed to call Francoise for anything except on the last day to inform him about our departure and to congratulate him for the upkeep of the apartment. I suggest this apartment to anyone who is travelling to Edinburgh without a private car. Keep it up Francoise and Thank You very much.

Owner's Response: Thanks for this Lawrence, I am glad you had a good time and thanks for the feedback. I have now installed a toilet brush in the shower room and some new frying pans in the kitchen. Due to the configuration of the front bedroom it is not possible to put a suitable wardrobe in here which is why there is a clothes rail in the store cupboard in the hall outside this bedroom. I realise this is not perfect but at least it is possible to hang clothes here.

a perfect flat to feel at home in edinburgh

We have spent a lovely time in edinburgh and the flat was just perfect. It was very clean, very well furnished and there was just everything we could look for, the bathrooms were large and the bedrooms too. The kitchen was lovely and there were all the things we needed. The psition of the flat is simply perfect, in the Georgian town which is a jewel in itself and so rich in little organic cafés and beautiful shops. We look forward to another holiday in Edinburgh in this flat.
