Todd has been fly fishing throughout North America for the past 20 years and returns to his favorite spot, the Big Hole river, time and time again. He loves it so much that we bought a vacation home in the quaint town of Melrose. We love this little getaway and are excited to be able to share it with others.

Wow, The Bunkhouse! What a great place to gather with our friends for a fishing trip. The Bunkhouse was cozy, comfortable, roomy and the funky decorations were really fun. The living room was spacious enough for our bunch to sit around, play music and hang out together. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and the area was quiet and peaceful for a good nights sleep. After fishing all day it was nice to have a full kitchen to cook in and a washer and dryer was a bonus for us! You could almost throw a stone from the Bunkhouse to the Big Hole river that produced, for us, some of the best fishing we have had in years (without having to go to Alaska!). Melrose is a charming little Montana town with it's friendly folks and down home restaurant and bar. We are a bunch of yeah hoo's who have known each other since high school and gather to fish every year. We are going to make this stop a yearly event. The Bunkhouse is IT for us and Melrose is worth the drive. By the way, the Moscow Mules were everything they were cracked up to be and is one of the reasons we decided to return again and again to this charming, memorable little place.

Melrose is a quaint little town located halfway between Butte and Dillon. It is world famous for its trout fishing as the The Big Hole River flows right through town. The Big Hole River is a blue-ribbon trout steam that has rainbow, brown, cutthroat and grayling. The river is floatable most of the season, with wading most successful in late July, August, September and early October. Melrose makes a perfect launching point for fishing excursions as the Beaverhead, Ruby and Jefferson Rivers - all famous for blue-ribbon trout fishing - are within an easy drive of Melrose. We are smack dab in the middle between fantastic lake fishing (ice fishing too) on Georgetown Lake and Clark Canyon Reservoir - equal distances at about 45-50 miles. Wade fishing on other creeks nearby also exists.

Hunting for Deer, Antelope and Elk near Melrose is world-class. Melrose is surrounded by National Forest. The mountains surrounding the Big Hole range from about 7600 feet, to over 10,600 feet. The Bitterroot, Pioneer and Anaconda-Pintler mountains are known far and wide for their beauty. Duck hunting is excellent around the Beaverhead and Jefferson rivers.

Rock climbing at the Humbug Spires in very close. About 5 miles up the road - then about 4 miles up the Moose Creek drainage, there are countless spires ranging from 50 to over 500 feet. The most popular is The Wedge, hosting a wide variety of routes. Predominantly traditional, with a few bolted slab lines.

Attractions: The Big Hole National Battlefield is a memorial to the people who fought and died here on August 9 and 10, 1877; combatants in a five month conflict that came to be called the Nez Perce. Big Hole National Battlefield is located ten miles west of Wisdom, Montana on state highway 43. From I-15 at Dillon, Montana take highway 287 northwest to Wisdom, then highway 43, ten miles west.

Hot springs, ghost towns, rodeos, golf, lake fishing, solitude - all exist nearby.

It's a hidden paradise.
