Despite being late on arrival were met with great warmth and Anna Maria after taking us all round the wonderful apartment and garden, came with us in the car to show us the most convenient car park (5 mins away). Also showed us round local shops for provisions (excellent green grocers, and butchers - try the sausages! - very good small shop for cofffee, cheeses, canned goods, washing up liquids, wine, etc all within a short walk). Apartment much bigger than had imagined and very comfortable. Guide books in English and Italian to borrow, and many more leaflets and books. Very good shower room with large well lit mirror. Separate area with washing machine 9works well).
Breathtaking views across from Assisi over the roofs and of the front of the Duomo - a beautiful sight morning, noon and night. Graet walks all around and of course beautiful Assisi. Lively when we were there - the crowds more the other end by the Basilica (went to twice - the crowds are not at all overpowering in my mind and evening walk abouts are just magical - not least for the gelato on the way round! ) Plenty of excellent restaurants too.
So much to see in Umbria - our first time - Spoletto Duomo, Aqueduct, Gubbio well preserved Medieval town, sunset sitting in the Roman Amphitheatre quite beautiful, have fun on the Funicular up to Monte Ingino, see the museum screening of the Corsa dei Ceri/ and so much more to discover in the hilltowns and reserves.
Then back to the gem of Umbria, Assisi, and a "home base" second to none. We shall be back (and we think Assisi is so well placed for North and South Umbria by whatver means of transport).
