Relaxing in the hot tub while watching the sunset behind the mountains is incredible. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this cabin is very secluded but still close to fun activities. There is a covered porch with a great picnic table and rocking chair that wraps around to the deck where you'll find the hot tub and loungers. Washer and dryer, unlimited phone minutes. Enjoy watching your favorite DISH Network programming on the 50'' flat screen in the living room or the TV in the Master Bedroom, and there are also lots of DVD's to watch and CD's to listen to music. Game loft with Foosball, electronic darts, Atari, board games, and puzzles! Don't forget to bring charcoal for a fun cookout on the grill.

Close to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Smoky Mountain Railroad, the Biltmore Estate, Nantahala Outdoor Center, Deep Creek Tubing, and great shopping and dining options in Dillsboro, Sylva, Waynesville, Cherokee, and Bryson City. Get into the action at Harrah's Casino in Cherokee or do some gem mining in Bryson City.

Experience the outdoor play performed at the Cherokee Mountainside Theatre, Unto These Hills. Along with the numerous outdoor activities in the nearby area, Ghost Town in the Sky, a Wild West-themed amusement park in Maggie Valley, is about 30 minutes away.

During the Spring and Summer enjoy countless outdoor activities. These include trout fishing in the Tuckasegee River, hiking along the Appalachian Trail or in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, boating, and mountain biking at Tsali Recreational Area, ATV trails, and exhilarating zipline tours.

Getaway to the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, a scenic and peaceful area with vacation fun for the entire family. Enjoy hiking, beautiful waterfalls, Tsali mountain biking, Nantahala white water rafting, waterfalls, Tuckasegee trout fishing, Cataloochee snow skiing, golfing, horseback riding, motorcycling, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, The Blue Ridge Parkway, The Biltmore Estate, Harrah’s Casino, and the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad.

Enjoy the cool mountain air of this Smoky Mountain cabin - a true getaway surrounded by nature and mountains. In the winter months, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended if snow is expected.

Whittier lies deep in the natural beauty of North Carolina. It lies on the border of the Nantahala National Forest and just South of the Great Smoky Mountains National Forest. Instead of a front desk and bellhops, you'll have a cabin all to yourself. You'll be able to fully enjoy and appreciate the wonders that nature has to offer you in perfect solitude. Return to Nature.

From Hidden Hills cabin, you'll be able to see the forest, but you'll also be close to some of the best natural sights that North Carolina has to offer. You can take a ride north and just a short hike you can see the beautiful eighty foot Rainbow Falls. The Smoky Mountains holds numerous hiking and walking trails that just beg for you to explore.

Explore Rich Cherokee History - You can visit the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, which include the tribe's history along with numerous exhibits about how they lived, dressed, and played. Drive through the Cades Cove, which includes a well-preserved 19th century village where the Cherokee often helped the European settlers survive. However, the Cherokee aren't just museums and historical sites. You can visit the actual Cherokee reservation and see a different story of America than you will find anywhere else.

More in the nearby area The Tuckasegee River creates picturesque waterfalls and fishing holes teeming with rainbow and brook trout. On clear days, head up to catch a 360-degree view of the entire range from the 6,500-foot Clingmans Dome, the highest point of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can also tour the rugged wilderness by train—the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad runs year-round excursions in restored, historic railroad cars that depart from Bryson City.

In winter, the Cataloochee Ski Area (about 30 miles from our cabin) opens 17 trails and slopes on its challenging downhill course. Once all the snow thaws, whitewater rafting and kayaking become popular attractions at nearby Nantahala Gorge. All the while, downtown in the nearby cities of Sylva, Bryson City, Dillsboro, and Cherokee charm visitors with antique shops, handcrafted pottery, homemade chocolates, and casino fun.

About Laura, Booking Agent - Office Hours M-F 9-4

We are retired, Dan from the United States Navy, and Mary from the Department of Justice. We're enjoying ourselves by occasional stays in our cabin, traveling the country in our 5th wheel camper, visiting family and friends and seeing the sights around the USA.

Laura, Booking Agent - Office Hours M-F 9-4 purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Laura, Booking Agent - Office Hours M-F 9-4 chose Whittier

Dan and I bought the land on which to build this cabin in 2008. We love the quiet and secluded location and still close to many activities. We began building about one year later. Over the next three years, we were there just about every free weekend and holiday to put together the dream of our vacation cabin in the mountains. We received our Certificate of Occupancy in April of 2012, almost exactly three years from the time we started to build. Needless to say, we were very proud of Hidden Hills Cabin. After the foundation was poured by professionals, along with an HVAC/plumbing company and a friend who is very experienced in construction work and a hard worker who came when we needed him, we did the rest of the work ourselves. It was an exciting goal, and we are very happy with how everything turned out. Whenever we look at it, we shake our heads in wonder.

What makes this cabin unique

Our favorite part of this cabin is its quiet and secluded location but still close to whatever we need or want to do. Beautiful colors during leaf season. Close to water activities, great restaurants, shopping, Smoky Mountain Railroad, Smoky Mountain National Park, Cherokee Casino, and many other attractions. Very relaxing to sit on the porch or lounge in the hot tub and look out over the mountain views, watch the sunrise and sunset. Hidden Hills Cabin is very spacious and has what you need to be comfortable. It's a great escape after a busy day of activities in the Smoky Mountains.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The cabin was just great, and we're ready to go again. It's a perfect place for a family getaway, and we enjoyed our time together. We played games, enjoyed the mountain views, a trip to the Fun Factory among other activities, had pizza at Nick and Nates, and even were brave and grilled out even though it's winter. Looking forward to returning for one of the many outdoor activities available in the area over the summer months. Our visit exceeded our expectations and helped us make some very happy family memories.

nice, convenient, and good bargain!

  • 4 of 5

i tried this review months back and it would never post so here goes again. the cabin in very convenient to Smokey Mtn. Pkwy. only about 2 miles off. So it's just 15 minutes to Dillsoboro, 20 to the Casino or Bryson City. It was clean and comfy. The road in is a bit tough in spots. would certainly reccommend 4wd in times of heavy rain or snow even though it is a good mix of gravel and paved then turn into the actual cabin is tight and tricky in icy weather. The front entrance is ground level and convenient for someone that has issues with stairs which was great in our case. The open living space was nice and the bedrooms were large. Porch and deck were nice. Hot tub did have great jets but cover was broken so water/ice accummulated on top making it hard to open(mgr said they had new cover and would install). Was very nice to have comfy couches and such and a nice big screen in living room. The other rooms have nice tvs as well but you can only watch channel due to 1 control box. It was snowing when we were there so we didn't grill but i would reccommend ditching the park style grill for a nicer grill. But overall the cabin was exactly what we needed and hoped for-comfy, clean, and convenient, and at a great price so we would definitely stay there again.

Owner's Response: Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at our mountain getaway. The hot tub cover has been replaced with a new one. Those things do get damaged when someone sits on it, which is a common issue with them. The road directly in front of the cabin was paved in March, which makes the access much easier. The charcoal grill is heavy duty to withstand a lot of use, and since it uses charcoal, it is more convenient as it won't run out of gas right in the middle of your cookout. :-) Yes, what you say is true. if you don't like steps, you don't have to climb any to have everything you need at Hidden Hills Cabin. The downstairs master suite with a queen sized bed and TV with DVD player is very comfortable. The upstairs master suite does have its own Dish Network box, and you can watch a different station on that television other than what is being watched downstairs in the living room. I want to thank you for your kind compliments and hope you have the opportunity to stay at our cabin again.
