I have lived on this beach for 7 years & have always felt SAFE to live & walk the beaches here.
Also you can choose if you like to walk down the street to get an idea of life in El Salvador or just choose to relax behind the private walls. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

I am originally from South Louisiana. In my 20's my son & I made our way to Houston. Worked my first 10 years in sales & marketing in the oil industry. Traveled the world for a few years and then when the oil market dried up in the 80's opened up a real estate company in Northwest Houston for 13 years. After 22 years of Houston decided to move to Florida to live on the ocean . After 6 years living in Florida I moved to El Salvador where house prices & taxes were affordable . I bought me a couple of houses, did some major construction & I have been here ever since. Not an easy task since I don't speak Spanish. Learning Spanish slowly but not as easy as you would think. My manager, Jackie & I have developed our own special Spanish after 7 years.
I know you hear of stories about how terrible crime is in El Salvador but I am a single woman living here on my own and never have understood why they say what they do about this country. I find the people wonderful and so much caring in them. Also living here has made me appreciate how lucky I was to be born in the U.S. where I had been given so many opportunities in life. All I have to do is look around me each day to understand that life could have been so much different if I had been born just a little farther South of the border. The good news is that I get to live on the ocean & never have to do housework again since labor is sooooo cheap. Love this country!!
Dianne purchased this house in 2005
This property I bought 7 years ago and have gone through all the pain of getting it perfect. I bought it cheap so it did not look anything like it does today. I have added special touches to this house everywhere. When you stay here everyone feels those special little things all around them to give them a real feeling of home. I love what I do and it shows throughout this home that I have built with love for both this house & this country. It has been up for rent for over 2 years and has become very popular. I wanted to offer people a special experience while they were staying in El Salvador with as many of the modern conviences I could for an affordable price. I love Playa San Diego because I feel I can mix with both the locals & the other American & Canadians that have retired here. Also I get tired of speaking in my broken Spanish so off I go for a little visit among friends right down the street. I love the location due to it being so close to both the airport & San Salvador. The other thing I love is the beach here. It is the most beautiful I have seen traveling throughout El Salvador. Also I walk the beaches without fear of anything happening to me. It is a small community and most locals know of each other & if something does happen, everyone knows who did it so it keeps our crime to a minimum. We have a local police station about 10 houses from mine and they patrol on bikes and foot. We also have lights on our electrical post so you can see at night if you are walking or driving. When I get bored or need to shop, all I have to do is take a 5 minute drive to La libertad. Love the location & convenience to everything. If I had to do it all over again with what I know today, I would still come back and buy in San Diego Playa. I hope you come to my house and enjoy the great experience of El Salvador as I have. The house looks like the photos so no surprises when you arrive.
WI FI INTERNET THROUGHOUT HOUSE & PROPERTY. There are NOT many homes that offer true WIFI internet on the Beach. Mine is one of the few. AFFORDABLE... *CLOSE to AIRPORT 30 minutes away, San Salvador* & SUPERMARKETS.....A/C IN BEDROOMS.. Satellite TV. HOT SHOWERS. Need a COOK, AVAILABLE. PAY FOR ONLY THE EXTRAS YOU WANT. , great house for entertaining. COMFORTABLE, CLEAN & QUIET. . KING & QUEEN BEDS with MEMORY FOAM. direct on ocean with a FLAT BEACH and NO ROCKS. FRIENDLY COMMUNITY so you get to experience El Salvador the way it should be. Playa San Diego is a large community with small local restaurants, little convenience stores up and down the streets,& local buses that run every 30 minutes but not too large if you need to find your way back to Rancho Cajun. A great place to experience local life at it's best in El Salvador.
This is the second time we have stayed at Casa Cajun. This time we stayed three weeks, and STILL did not want to return to the States. The house is beautiful, the ocean is virtually at your door, and the weather is beautifully tropical. Dianne is a gracious hostess, her staff are there whenever you need them to be, and the yard and pool are cleaned daily (usually by 8 AM). Who could ask for anything more. We hired the cook, and had wonderful meals daily at whatever time we asked. Again, our biggest regret is not having more time to spend in this convenient, comfortable beach home.
I am an American living in El Salvador and I love to show off this beautiful country to my friends and family who come to visit me. Rancho Cajun was the perfect place to do that. The house was lovely and very well furnished. It was probably the best furnished beach house I've ever been at. The beach was amazing, right out our front door, waves were a little bit rough for the kids, but this is La Libertad. Our stretch of the beach was basically empty and we had it to ourselves. Dianne and her staff were amazingly helpful. Dianne made sure we had everything we needed, and recommended restaurants and generally made us feel at home. Jackie and the others that stopped by during the day to clean up the yard and the pool were super respectful and helpful as well. Knowing that they were available and willing to help with more stuff like cooking etc. was also nice even though we did all our own cooking. My only regret is that we were not able to stay longer than two nights. I will definitely be keeping Dianne's contact info handy for the next time friends or family come to visit me.
My son and I stayed at Rancho Cajun for 11 days recently and had a great time.
Dianne is wonderful to work with. She was very quick to reply to questions during the booking process, gave me detailed instructions on how to get to the house when we flew in and stopped by a few times during our visit to make sure everything was ok.
Her property is as advertised and the photo's and video she has on the site will give you great insight into what to expect.
The waves on the beach, during high tide, are powerful and we had a great time in them. Make sure you ask Dianne about the rip currents and what to watch for if you have younger children. She gave us great advice and we never had a problem. The waves are really strong though, so take care.
La Libertad is a smaller town but has some good restaurants and we used their local supermarket on a number of occasions. A bit further down the main road there are a couple of very good places to eat, the view from the patio at Beto's is really good and the food nice with the beer ice cold! Just what you need after a day on the beach.
We visited El Tazumal to see the Mayan ruins and also visited the Santa Anna volcano. Both are really worth the drive.
Roads in the area are generally good, but watch for potholes. These can quickly ruin your day if you hit them to hard and end up with a flat. Directions are ok, but not all the main routes are well signposted.
One of the things that did impress me was the wifi service in the house. It was fast enough to keep my son quiet.
Dianne's house keeping team are excellent, they come in early, clean and then leave everything looking great. We asked them to cook a couple of meals for us on the bar-b-que. Salvadorian rice, shrimp, fish, chicken, pork.... all fresh really great. Don't miss this on your stay. They even cleaned everything up after the meal.
My family and I have been renting houses in different countries in the region (Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico etc) for the last few years and Dianne's has been the best place we have had the pleasure to stay in.
Rancho Cajun was the perfect place for our vacation. The property is as described – but what makes this property better than any of the other properties I have rented over the past 12 years, is the owner’s prompt reaction to any questions or issues – she treated us like valued guests. Dianne lives on the property, but we never saw her except when we needed her. The pool was cleaned daily and a young woman came each morning to sweep and rake the property and also did our laundry a couple of times a week. We chose to cook our own meals, but paid extra to have the floors and bathrooms cleaned once a week. We felt very comfortable leaving the house with them there and it was wonderful to come home to a clean house. Dianne was kind enough to loan us a local cell phone and recommended a local driver to take us into San Salvador one day. If Dianne didn’t know the answer to a question, she immediately got on the phone and found out for us. La Libertad is about a 5 minute drive away and you can buy fresh fish, fruits and vegetables, tortillas and just about anything else you need.
Because the property is right on the beach, it requires a great deal of regular maintenance. Dianne is constantly upgrading – while we were there, she was arranging for new televisions and had recently purchased new air conditioning units. While the Jacuzzi was not available (and not advertised as an amenity), the pool was perfect for cooling off and relaxing. I would have loved to have had the jacuzzi filled with cold water as it had a great view of the beach and ocean – but I believe Dianne intends to make it into a bar area which will be lovely too. If you want to live in a community and enjoy the local ambience, this home is perfect.
One caveat – if you arrive late in the day, I would recommend that you not drive from the airport in the dark. Even though it is only about 30 minutes away, if you are unfamiliar with the area, it is difficult to follow the directions. In addition, there are currently a couple of construction areas, there are no streetlights and the locals walk and bicycle on the shoulders of the road. We got lost several times, had to ask at the gas station for directions and the drive was very stressful. Next time, I would either arrange for a driver or stay the night at the hotel close to the airport.
The house was wonderful. Everything is exactly as described and things are labeled well. Dianne, Jackie, and Antonio were responsive. Really can't think of any negatives, except for ants in the kitchen. But I can deal with some ants if it means I get to stay in a great house like that for a few days. Oh and it'd be great if the jacuzzi was working. Overall though, we were very happy.
We recently stayed at this property for Semana Santa and had an amazing time. The property was wonderful and private and very well taken care of. All we did was hang by the pool and take a dip in the ocean, and that was all we needed. Jackie and Antonio were fantastic, helpful, and very friendly. We ran out of gas and Antonio was at our house and back with more gas within 30 minutes. He also helped us get a taxi to get into town (the taxi driver was awesome and hilarious as well). We got seafood from Jackie and it was fantastic and cheap. I hope I can come back to this house with my friends again some day soon. The price was great, and the location was as good as it gets. Thank you so much Dianne, Jackie, and Antonio!
We have a turtle sanctuary in walking distance on our beach. There also is a state park just 5 minutes away. San Salvador is a short 30 minute ride and you can find anything you want there.
