Simply Fabulous
I can't say enough good about the Luana Hideaway - it far surpassed our dreams. The house and yard are both lovingly tended and have a calming, peaceful ambience. The beds are very comfortable. It was squeaky clean and very well appointed. The kitchen was well equipped with high quality cookware, appliances, dishes, and eating utensils. There was even a burr-grinder for coffee - so that you can appreciate the local coffees to their fullest extent. We cooked most nights we were here. The owner clearly honors the island - there was a library stocked with in-depth information on the flora and fauna of the island, the Hawaiian language, the people. local history... so appreciated. The accommodations were very spacious for our family of four - six would fit easily. The listing reflects the house, - although the charm and expansiveness goes beyond what you see in the photos. The Champagne pond is just a minute's walk away, while the Wai O'pae (Kapoho) Tide Pools are a 3 minute drive away. The Wai O'pae tide pools provided the best snorkeling that we experienced anywhere on the island (for us even surpassing the crowded Place of Refuge/Honaunau Bay). We enjoyed the nearby Lava Tree State Park for its lovely foliate. There is easy access to Volcanoes National Park. We really enjoyed nearby Pahoa - Ning's Thai is really great, as is the small surf shop, and the farmers' market. We spent half our vacation here and the other half on the west side of the island. While the sandy beaches on the west side are very fun, this is the place that will stick in our memories; we appreciated not being part of the overwhelming resort scene. Thank you, Kathy, for the use of your lovely home.
