Lake Pomme de Terre offers plenty of wildlife and relaxing lake access that is not as overcrowded as other Missouri lakes such as Lake of the Ozarks and Stockton Lake. Still it’s close enough to travel to these other lakes and return home the same day.
If you are a return renter, please note we have added a bedroom with a full size bed and 1/2 bath in the basement over the last year. This gives the home true bedding for 12. Additional sleeping is available on pull out couches, etc as well. Cleaning fee for large groups is now $100. $75 for other groups.
We are the Shope family from Kansas City and we completed building this wonderful A-Frame in 2008. It was always our dream to have an A-Framed cabin at the lake and have spent thousands of hours here enjoying The Lake of the Potato! We think you will also love this quiet peaceful first tier lake property.
Alan Shope purchased this cabin in 2008
We spent 5 years with a camper at Goody's Resort and loved it so much that we wanted to find some land and build here. We stumbled upon this land by accident and got to know the owner who lived right across the street very well. He didn't want to sell us the nearly 3/4 acre lot but agreed to if we used him as the builder. We were in no rush so we slowly built the home over a two year period making sure the house was done just the way we wanted it. In September of 2008 we moved into the 1400 square foot, 4-level home. Since, we've added two decks and a hot tub as well as purchased a private dock and slip specific for this home. It's been an amazing getaway for our entire family and close friends.
This home is just as amazing on the inside as the out with a large A shaped living room with large windows, and a surprise loft in the master bedroom that over looks our cove. Each season offers a different look from the loft window. There is also a walk out balcony just off the master bedroom for morning coffee or a sunset book read. The 'Bunk' room is very spacious with 6 beds and a large pool table, as well as several inside miniature golf holes built by my father and a rustic pool table in the middle of the room. The home has a large basement and TV room as well as a game and washroom. The two-car garage has room for golf carts, all the boat supplies, two kayaks, and room to spare for your car.
We stayed over the busy Labor Day weekend. We live only 10 minutes from the lake and are every weekend lake goers. We wanted the opportunity to stay with another family that are great friends, on the lake, for an end of the year vacation with our kids. All 4 kids are teenagers and super hard to impress. These kids had the best time ever. This place has everything!! Pool, ping pong, mini golf(inside the home), fooseball, kayaks, hot tub, xbox, movie room and tons of games. We didn't get to enjoy the movie room but with 90 degree weather we kept the kids outside and wore out. This home just requires you to bring clothes and the food your going to eat. It was absolutely amazing, amazing, amazing. It is set within 100 yards from the lake. You can either walk or drive the golf cart that's provided. The neighborhood is super quiet and mornings feel wonderful to get up and enjoy the wildlife that comes out directly behind the home. Thank you for such a wonderful time and we look forward to renting again next year.
Wow!!! This vacation home was absolutely everything we could have hoped for. We like to have a lot of information as we choose a location since we have so many family members to please: between the information posted on VRBO, the YouTube virtual tour, and Alan's willingness to answer questions in multiple phone calls, we felt comfortable in our choice. And we were not disappointed. The house was immaculate when we arrived and it is stocked with everything to keep everyone from our toddler to our 20 year old occupied at all times. The lake is literally less than a minute's walk, and we had a great time with the kayaks, pedal-boat and tubes (pulled by the kayak, but hey, it worked for us). And we didn't need to bring anything with us - the garage contains all the life preservers, kiddie floatation devices, fishing equipment, plus so much more. Minor issues: one of the golf carts was out of order and the previous renters had left the pedal-boat quite dirty. We didn't rely on it but as it turned out, we had spotty cell phone service, and no internet service on our Hotspot. If we had known ahead of time we would have planned for the seclusion. What more can we say? The lake was beautiful with wildlife abundant, the neighbors were friendly, the hot-tub was as advertised... Suffice it to say, we are eager to return!
This home is a great place to stay!! Lots of things for the kids to do and stay busy! Accommodations were great. The air conditioner was a challenge at first but was able to get the home cooled off by the second night. Of course we prefer it to be cold when we sleep. If you are going to the lake for the boating experience be very aware of the cove that you have to go through to get to the main part of the lake. It is extremely stumpy and can cripple your boat quickly. Thanks to harbor master Jon was able to detour around these stumps. Keep the prop up and go slow and you should be ok. Overall we had a wonderful experience at te lake. The neighbors were great and very personable. Kids truly enjoyed the dock, paddle boat, and area. Definitely would go back. I recommend this house to any family that is ready for a fun filled time. Be ready to never have a dull moment with all the activities and games in the home. The hardest part of the trip was deciding what games to play versus being on the lake. Great family location.
We rented the cabin for a long weekend/family reunion at the lake and we brought our boat. First off the home is very comfortable and clean. It really is ideal for families with children. Its pretty easy to find and offers immediate access to the lake via the dock. Well, we took our boat out on the first day we were there and it broke. I was worried my kids were going to be bothering me about being bored, but in this home there is NO CHANCE. My kids and I fished, swam off the dock, played all of the games provided and basically went nuts. The Shopes offer so much to do for kids that I didnt even get a complaint about the boat. They played ping-pong, pool, checkers and chess, rode around in the kayaks and the paddle boat, and basically self-entertained for 2 days. I was very pleased with the home and thrilled that we had an opportunity to stay there. It saved me from what otherwise would have been a tragedy of a weekend...
Had a wonderful time & enjoyed the well equiped delightful home/so much to do even on a rainy day-- we loved the neighborhood and all was great! We will want to return-- Thank You!
This home was one of the largest and nicest in the "Village". House is in a small cluster of little houses in a remote area near the Lightfoot area. We stayed here during the week and few other people were around so it was pretty peaceful and private. The house is roomy with comfortable furniture (including the beds, so important!) , clean, homey and nicely decorated. The provided golf cart is perfect for hauling your stuff down to the lake, terrain is hilly and wooded but they have a great trail for the carts that lets you get within a few steps of the dock. Shared dock, but we really didn't see many other people around during our 4 day stay. Enjoyed fishing, swimming, and paddling around there. This is a fun house! We were unable to use the balcony or picnic table, but enjoyed the nice new hot tub in the evenings. Upstairs in the bunk room we played pool and a little mini golf, and downstairs in the game room we had nightly all ages air hockey tournaments. Nice tv in the tv room with local channels only but we experienced some signal loss issues. Other issues we had were with portable ac units - but we started our trip during extreme heat, 106 when we arrived. The nearest wifi hotspot was more than 30 minutes away, kind of unexpected. We brought groceries and cooked most of our meals here during our 4 day stay and found the kitchen a little light on some supplies. However, this is the first season of renting for the owners and they have been making changes and so forth as they go along as they are receptive to feedback. We increased the comfort level of the yard by bringing our own screen room and little garden shower which worked out well. And our favorite folding chairs. Just watch small children around the back step area, kind of rough, I think that is being worked on. On the other hand, the bed linens, quilts, towels etc. were plentiful and very very nice. Excellent collection of life vests for renters to choose from as well as some great tubes and blow-ups. Didn't get to try the kayaks, but they are available too. We were an extended family of 6 on this trip, single bathroom worked out fine. Dining table kind of small though. All in all this is a good place that may eventually be really great. This place is best for relaxing stay in one spot type of vacations. Just bring some groceries, sunscreen and bait and you will be set! Well, the yardguard spray in the evenings was good also.
Lake access to Pomme de Terre and several on the water Restaurants and Rentals shops. Close to Free Hiking trails and Free Kayak River runs and Fishing. Shopping fans, just 25 minutes from Wal-Mart in Bolivar and just 50 minutes from Bass Pro Shop in Springfield! There is a YMCA in Bolivar as well as a movie theater. If you like antiquing, the Hermitage area has dozens of shops. If you like Country Music, Branson is less than two hours away. Plenty of food and a convenience store just 10 minutes from the home.
