It's hard to decide the best part of staying in this comfortable two bedroom condo in Ketchum. Could be the fact that it's just a couple blocks from the Big Wood River. Maybe it's the close proximity to great skiing at Baldy Mountain, Dollar Mountain, and a short walk to the lifts at River Run Day Lodge.
Then again, there's Sawtooth National Recreation Area - less than a half hour north - where you'll enjoy all the hiking, biking, fishing, and boating that comes with 300 alpine lakes and snow-capped peaks. Or maybe it's simply charming little Ketchum itself where you'll find wonderful shops, galleries, and a proud community appealing enough to make the likes of Ernest Hemmingway stay put.
Make yourself at home in the living area with its comfy, contemporary decor. After a long day on the slopes, sightseeing, or shopping, settle in with a cup of coffee, cocoa,(or something a little stiffer!) before dinner. Put a log on the fire, bring up the laptop and check out what's happening around town or reserve a table at that special spot for dinner on the free WiFi.
There's a DVD player for those times when you just want to stay in, so don't forget to pack some of your favorite flicks! And if you simply have to see the evening news, the TV has cable. Or, weather permitting, have a seat out on the deck and breathe the fresh, mountain air!
With two bedrooms, Smokey Lane will accommodate five comfortably. There's a queen bed in the master bedroom. The two twins in the other can be combined into a king with the bed adapter (provided). A sofa bed in the living room allows for those extra people. There are one and a half baths, so wait times are minimal, and a washer and dryer, so there are no trips to the Laundromat.
Whether it's morning eggs, a mid-day sandwich, or sushi in the evening, Ketchum is ready to serve you! With 53 places to eat in the area, it can satisfy just about any taste. If you're staying in, this newly remodeled, fully stocked kitchen offers a stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder and dishwasher. There's plenty of room to move around and the center island gives you extra room for prep work. Out on the deck is a gas grill in case you've a taste for barbeque.
Historically, Ketchum's fortune's are hitched to Sun Valley and...well, skiing! But skiing and snowboarding are just the beginning of the recreational options in and around Ketchum. Take the world famous Sun Valley Nordic & Snowshoe Center, for instance. In winter, at the center - located at the 58,000 square-foot Sun Valley Club - you'll not only enjoy some of the best cross-country skiing in America and 40km of trails for classic skiing, there are also training programs, clinics, rentals, state of the art Clubhouse, restaurant, lounge, bar and locker rooms. Or, how about dog-sledding or an old-fashioned sleigh ride?
In summer, ride the lift to the top of Baldy Mountain, then hike or bike down. Ketchum also has a vibrant arts community. With 10 galleries, it has more per square mile than most other cities its size. And yes, there's golfing. You can tee up at one of four courses in the Ketchum/Sun Valley area, and try your luck at three more courses within ten miles.
