Wonderful Winter Holiday

The listing and photos were excellent in informing us about the rental. The place was spotless and the stay very comfortable.
We have rented many condos and apartments through vrbo and find that having the owners in the same building, or at least in the same town, is a real advantage. (Try contacting a condo owner who is out on his fishing boat on the Atlantic coast when you can't get the key to open the door of his Colorado condo!!) Carol and Les were always a text or call or a floor away when we needed help or advice.
We enjoyed being in Fairbanks in winter, although locals kept correcting us, saying it was spring and still -10 - -18 F at night.
We got to do the following:
go for a dog sled ride
visit Chena Hot Springs
see the international ice carving competition
watch dog sled races on the main street of downtown
drive to the top of Ester Dome late at night to watch the aurora
enjoy the wonderful museum on campus and the visitors' center in town
eat huge oysters on the half shell at The Pump - a historic building now a restaurant.
We made the round trip from Anchorage on the one-of-a-kind tourist railroad and had great views of moose, eagles, frozen rivers and snow covered mountains, including Mt. McKinley.
We highly recommend the apartment at the Smallwood's home as a "base of operations."
