Experience life in the beautiful Upper Delaware River Valley. The tastefully furnished home offers an open floor plan great for entertaining. Windows provide great natural light. Take in the river view from porches and deck. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and one with a double, plus a third room which owners now use as a TV room with 2 comfortable sofas. Two full baths and one half bath, fireplace, and a gourmet kitchen round out the picture. Enjoy the Delaware River at your door step, swim, canoe, fish, or walk to Callicoon for shopping, restaurants, library and movie theatre. Or spend an afternoon with a river guide and learn how to fly fish.
Visit the Farmer's Market year-round on Sundays, 11-2pm at Callicoon Creek Park and stock up on fresh produce, fruits, breads, pastries, and cheeses. The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the original site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival is just a 15 minute drive away. Or try your luck at the Monticello Raceway and Casino or play a round of golf at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon. Take a ride on The Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, Route 97, which extends from Hancock to Port Jervis, and visit the Roebling Bridge and other historic places and museums along the way.
(WiFi has been installed and we are looking into ways to improve cell service. This house has always been totally SMOKE-FREE.)
My name is Rosie. I am the property manager for the owners who are New York City based. This is their second home.
Rosie DeCristofaro purchased this house in 1986
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home away from home. It met our needs on so many levels. The rental is lovely and contains every amenity you might need for a short or long stay. We stayed 5 nights and were able to entertain other family members staying in the area with dinner and good family fun. The rental is situated along the Delaware river and you are able to watch it from the deck in the back of the house. The rental is even better than the pictures on the web site. The property is clean and well maintained. The rental agent responded to all our questions promptly. I would highly recommend you consider this property if you are planning to visit the area. There are restaurants and shopping in the little town of Callicoon. Matthew's is especially good if you are looking for some great food. The last thing I'll say is that I hope my family and I have the opportunity to repeat our visit to this lovely and welcoming property.
Just back from a lovely and relaxing weekend at this house. Agree with everything that's been said so far - it's a great house. Only thing to add is that the house is down a non-paved road, so a little difficult in snow, mud, or ice depending on the type of car you drive.
The house was clean and well maintained, location was accurate, and right on the Delaware River. Excellent for viewing eagles and away from it all. The pictures shown online were accurate and I would recommend this well stocked home. The fireplace was a nice touch, but the radiant heat was enough to keep the house well heated. Just wish the hot water heater was bigger because we would run out of hot water after a few showers. Also wish the loft area could be used so we could invite another couple along.
My husband and I stayed in the house for 4 nights and enjoyed waking up and walking to the river with our french bulldog
Tastefully decorated house with fully stocked kitchen
10 min scienic walk to Callicoon for nice dinners and drinks
Cant' wait to return! Highly recommended
Words cannot truly describe the feelings which my husband and I felt when we walked in the house for the first time. Beautifully crafted with high ceilings. Beautifully furnished as if it were our own.
As a matter of fact, the owners had so may things which were the same or similar as those which we have in our own home. We felt as if the house had been done for us, the owners taste was eerily
similar to ours, and all the appliances in the kitchen were identical to those we have at home.
There was nothing missing. I baked and cooked a lot and there was a plate, bowl, rolling pin, or glass for any possible use. Great fun to cook and bake here.
The house made it very easy to entertain my elderly relatives in the style I would have done at home,
when they came up from Barryville for dinner!!We cannot thank the owners enough for providing this perfect home, and so beautifully located on the majestic Delaware. The local grocery store had all the things we needed, and we found some wonderful cheeses which are made in farmsteads nearby.
Cannot say enough good about the comfort level and the beauty and the serenity of this home! Lovely, lovely, lovely. We had a hard time leaving, and canceled a planned night in New York City as we were too happy to leave. We will be back. I just hope that they continue to get the best quality tenants so that it remains the same.
The house is beautifully and tastefully decorated with a mix of modern and comfortable furnishings and antiques, original art, vintage rugs, hardwoods throughout and architectural details. Not stuffy, very comfortable for my family of 4 (two sons, ages 14 and 8) and our dog. Stunning double wood-burning fireplaces. The house is designed that every room (spare the bathrooms) has river views.
Beds are comfortable with all cotton linens. Master bedroom has a breathtaking view of the river - wake up, lift your head and there it is :) Our older son made his bed on the sofa in the TV room, which was plenty of room for his 6ft frame. Flat screen with cable, if you are interested.
2 full baths, one for each bedroom, which is a nice touch. An extra half bath off the kitchen.
Kitchen has all modern appliances - Sub Zero, Bosch, etc. Lots of glasses, an ecletic mix of plates and bowls to set a charming table.
Ceiling fans in every room keep the house cool and comfortable (we were there for a very hot July 4th week).
This was one of the most relaxing homes we have rented - tall french doors and walls of glass and windows open the large two sectioned living room up to the outdoors and the incredible views of the river. House is on a private graveled road, very quiet and fronts a field.
The river is reached through meandering mowed paths from the back of the house. You have about 2 acres to enjoy. Nice size deck at the back with picnic table and umbrella. Folding chairs to bring down to the river. Large gas grill also. And a sweet surprise, a wooden swing in the corner of the yard hanging from a tree that we all used.
The river was low when we were there and the children happily played in it for hours. Even the dog went in for a swim. We rented kayaks from Landers and floated from Callicoon down to Skinners Falls, pricey but worth it. Visited Bethel and the beautiful Woodstock museum. Brought our bikes and biked along River Rd right in Callicoon, a great ride: you can bike to it from the house, it's just over the bridge.
A few restaurants in town, but we grilled every night, shopping from an excellent grocery store in town, Pecks. EVERYTHING closes early! First run movie theatre in town, but we didn't try.
My only complaint is no internet service, but that's just me, hard to be un-connected. Cell service is spotty. If I needed to check emails or make an important call, I made my way into town (3 minute ride).
Highly recommend this charming home!
