This remodeled and upgraded Spanish motif is a fully furnished open studio near the south rim of Mission Valley. The Casita is your 'home away from home', full of amenities for you to enjoy your visit to San Diego, relax, and keep in touch with your world.
We currently live in the front house of the property and have been in our home since 1982. We found this lovely property on the way to a Charger game and couldn't resist the custom Spanish style of this 1920's era two on one. We started out renting and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase the property. We were even more fortunate to be married in the back yard; all six kids and one happy St. Bernard. We both grew up elsewhere in California, but we met in San Diego and have lived in our home for 30+ years and can not imagine leaving. The back house (casita) was a rental when we bought and was kept as a rental for most of our time here. Recently, we remodeled and upgraded the cottage into the casita.
Jim and/or Lynne Manner purchased this studio in 1983
We bought here because our work was nearby and schools for our children were close. We are now retired and our children have left the roost. Our home is situated right in the middle of everything that is inviting in San Diego. Neighborhood restaurants and coffee houses are within four blocks. We are very close to high-end shopping malls, the Gaslamp District downtown, Balboa Park, the Zoo, beaches, ball parks, and just 1+ hour from the beautiful and very quaint historic mountain town of Julian.
The casita is located in a quiet neighborhood that is walking friendly and very close to freeway access in all directions as well as public transportation.
Popular Points of Interest (POI) and their distances from the Casita can be viewed on our map.
Perfect is really the only word for this. Superb accommodation, location, and hosts. We have already reserved for our next trip!
My husband and I recently spent 8 nights at La Casita. Jim and Lynne have done a wonderful job with this spacious and comfortable studio. Everything is top quality, and it is beautifully furnished in a colorful, yet tasteful,Southwestern theme.
The location is conveniently central for everything in San Diego, yet is in a quiet and pleasant residential neighborhood. A big bonus is that it is 5 minutes walk to lots of restaurants and cafés on Park.
Jim and Lynne are helpful and friendly, but not intrusive. Their elderly dog, Peanut, visited us frequently to check all was in order.
We'll definitely be back, if possible, next time we visit San Diego.

I recently completed a 9500 mile trip around the country and had a chance to stay at the Casita Del Sol in San Diego. This Casita was the best place I stayed on the whole trip. It is a very nicely equipped studio apartment located in a quiet neighborhood. I do not think there is any amenity that is not available in this quaint rental. There are restaurants and shopping located just a short walk away. I drove over to Balboa Park for the day and did not have to drive on any major road.
I highly recommend Casita Del Sol to anyone who wants a quiet secluded getaway. It is a very nice alternative to staying at one of the hotels in the San Diego area.
The casita was in a great location and it was only a few minutes drive to pretty much all the attractions. You can also walk the neighborhood and enjoy the beautifully xeriscaped yards, the restaurants, grocery stores, shops and night life that is nearby. The studio was very clean, bright and light and was stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay, even ground coffee and a few yummy chocolate chip cookies. Jim and Lynne were friendly and welcoming but the casita was still very private and quiet. The bed was softer than I am used to, but I adjusted to it. Overall, it was a great place to stay, we loved the neighborhood and our vacation was fantastic.
This is the second time we have stayed at the Casita and we were not disappointed. We had everything we needed to feel at home and the addition of beach chairs and beach towels was a nice bonus. Lynn and Jim are great hosts and we will definitely stay again.
The place is incredible! Me, my husband and our little 9-month old felt at home for the 10 days we were there. The Casita had everything we needed and was so close to all that we wanted to see. The owners gave you your own space but were there for help and a friendly chat. Highly recommend if you want to visit SD.
University Heights is a people friendly neighborhood that is centrally located and close to most of San Diego's main attractions, malls, universities, beaches, and military bases. There are a multitude of neighborhood restaurants and coffee houses within walking distance.
