Gualala Cottage Rental Photos and Description

This newly remodeled cottage called the 'Surf Breaker' will provide you with a sunny deck, ocean view or cool shade from the redwood trees. Listen to the waves crash and the seals bark as you are sitting in the hot tub, playing horseshoes, or relaxing in the hammock. On the cool coastal nights you can enjoy the indoor fireplace. The house has two full baths, king size bed and a cozy reading room with two twin beds. For those 'gourmet chefs' there is a brand new gas range and a fully stocked kitchen. It is a 5 minute walk (3/4 of a mile) to a private beach (free access.) The cottage and the beach are both near the Anchor Bay Village. A short drive to the Point Arena Stornetta California Coastal National Monument.

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5
This was positively the best choice we could have made for our vacation. My wife, myself and our toddler enjoyed every minute of our week stay. The cottage was everything we were hoping for and more: cozy, comfortable, charming, and in an ideal location. Close enough to the beach (the day pass to Anchor Bay campground beach was such a nice perk!) but also comfortably secluded on a forested hillside.

Anchor Bay itself was a great central location for day trips in the region and visits to the local beaches and coast communities. I have to say, the people of the area are some of the friendliest and welcoming that we've encountered anywhere. It was a pleasure knowing we had such a great 'home-base' to return to after our outings.

It was a major plus that our 3 year old could play outside safely on the grounds around the cottage and explore without us worrying too much. For him especially, this was an absolute paradise! His highlight was seeing deer from the surrounding woods.

We really appreciated that many essentials and extras were provided. We found the bed in master bedroom to be very comfortable. My only minor gripe would be Internet access. I found that I could connect somewhat consistently with a Macbook and several mobile devices *only* in a small radius of the house from bedroom to deck. But really, the point is to relax and soak in the beauty of the area not do too much staring at screens, so no biggie.

Pluses like the fabulous deck, hot tub, hammock, media center and telescope to view the ocean were icing on the cake.

I can't recommend this vacation spot enough! We loved it, and hope to return in the future.

Great Hideaway

  • 5 of 5
Spent two nights and loved every minute. The cabin is as advertised--very clean, modern and well maintained. Ocean views are limited, but a quick 2 minute car ride away. This is a great place to get away from everything and just relax which is easy to do with the hot tub, hammock, horseshoe pit, big screen tv/dvd, games, etc. We would have loved to spend the week. Highly recommended!

Loved our stay at the Cozy Coastal Cottage

  • 5 of 5
Loved our stay at this cottage. It had everything you could possibly need for your stay. The owner was fantastic and very helpful. She has all sorts of brochures of things to do in the area, places to shop for groceries and notes about the place. Played horseshoes with my husband, relaxed in the hammock, read outside on the deck and enjoyed watching DVD movies on their large TV. They have all sorts of games there and movies you can watch. The area is beautiful and we did a lot of traveling along the breathtaking coast line.

Relaxing getaway in gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at the Surf Breaker for our 13th wedding anniversary, and it was the perfect home base for all of our adventures along the Mendonoma Coast. We loved having the fully-stocked kitchen, where we prepared breakfast and most of our evening meals after spending our days exploring beaches, forests and mountains. There are gas and charcoal grills for those who prefer cooking outdoors, which we did. It's just a short drive to Gualala, where there are two options for grocery shopping. We especially loved the Surf Market, which offered lots of fresh, local, organic options and a generous selection of California wines and beers.

The cottage is set in a breathtaking location, snuggled amid soaring redwoods with a peek-a-boo view of the ocean. You can even hear the seals barking from the deck! The hot tub is just the right size for two, and we spent each evening soaking and winding down from the day. We couldn't get Wi-fi during our visit, but that allowed us to focus on the beauty around us.

The day pass to Anchor Bay beach gave us our first direct access to the water. The beach is the ideal combination of white sand and rocky tide pools. The cottage includes lots of brochures and articles about other activities, and the guest book is ripe with recommendations from previous guests. Sally was away on vacation during our stay, but she answered all of our questions quickly and thoroughly via email before we arrived. The person staying at her house was available if any problems arose during our visit, but we never needed to call on him.

If you like Mexican food, we highly recommend Zocalo in Gualala. The service is not outstanding, but the food is incredible and priced right. Some of the best guacamole and salsas we've ever had, especially the tomatillo, and the entrees were brimming with fresh flavor. We also enjoyed driving inland to Booneville via Mountain View Road and taking the Anderson Valley Brewing Company tour. We took a slight detour on the way back and visited Hendy Woods State Park, where we saw some amazing old-growth redwoods. The Point Arena Lighthouse offered sweeping views of the coast and a nice history lesson. There are dozens of free, public-access beaches along the coast, each with its own allure.

I could go on and on. We had an amazing time, and the foundation for our relaxing journey was the Surf Breaker. It was clean, spacious and charming. We would definitely return and recommend it to our friends.

Wonderful rental property

  • 5 of 5
My wife, daughter and I spent a wonderful week at this property. It was exactly as advertised and then some. The kitchen was perfectly stocked with pots and pans, lots of wood for the fireplace (it got chilly at night in July!), and the super relaxing hot tub. The location couldn't have been better. A short drive to everywhere along scenic Rt. 1. Spent a day in Mendocino, and spent several days just hiking the bluffs and sitting down and watching the Pacific Ocean eat away at the coastline. Saw hundreds of sea lions, lots of deer, and a jack rabbit. Ate at every local restaurant and also cooked the freshest salmon ever in the house kitchen. And it was quiet! Sitting on the deck at night was noiseless and serene. We could not have been more pleased with staying at this property. A perfect week getting away from the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia. Thanks!

The Surf Breaker was cozy and clean! We enjoyed the cool breeze and relaxing on the hammock. The owners have a handy notebook of information about the house and nearby activities. We would definitely return if our travels bring us back to Anchor Bay!
