The Lodge at Loon Lake is situated on a 2 acre wooded lot overlooking pristine Loon Lake. Loon Lake is approximately 120 acres in size and is located within the Huron National Forest. The 4 bedroom lodge sits above the lake facing west. Every evening brings incredible sunsets over the lake. Only about one third of the shoreline has homes and cottages. The rest of the shoreline is nature at its best. If you are looking for a noisy, loud, power boating lake this is NOT IT. Loon Lake is a quiet, beautiful lake where you can enjoy fishing, swimming, hiking, relaxing on the water and viewing beautiful sunsets. The Lodge at Loon Lake was built in the 1950's and still has that special north woods feel and atmosphere. The entire exterior has been log sided with field stone trim. All the furniture, bedding and decorations have a north woods look. The interior is all knotty pine with wood floors. The large living room has a high ceiling with a stone fireplace. The dining room table can sit up to 8 persons and has a door wall that leads to the upper deck overlooking the lake. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you may need. There is also a small bistro table ideal for having morning coffee and looking over the lake. The master bedroom has a king bed and bathroom. There is a full second bathroom located next to both the Moose and Bear bedrooms. Both of these bedrooms have queen size beds. There is also an upstairs sleeping loft overlooking the main living area which has 4 twin beds. There is a fully equipped laundry room downstairs. On the outside of the lodge and facing the lake is a screen house located under the upper deck, There is also a field stone barbecue and a fire ring for campfires. With the lodge located above the lake there is a stepped walkway down to the lake side decks and water. Here there is a fishing boat with electric trolling motor, 4 person paddle boat, canoe and 2 kayaks along with a shed containing seat cushions, life vests and other water toys.
We originally purchased the Lodge in 1987 and it quickly became our favorite place to be. It actually reinforced our love of country living that lends itself to a simpler life. We love canoeing, hiking and horses. We actually had a couple of horses at the Lodge for several years. Then in 1995 we jumped into a new lifestyle by purchasing the Bar Lazy J Guest Ranch in Colorado! Unfortunately we had to sell the lodge to make that dream possible. We never thought we would have the opportunity to return to our Lodge on Loon Lake. Well, obviously we were able to make that happen. In August of 2011 the opportunity to repurchase the property presented itself.
Jerry Helmicki purchased this lodge in 2011
Providing great hospitality for people to relax and enjoy the great outdoors has become our passion and we are delighted to be able to share this special place. Waking up to the morning call of the loons on the lake followed by coffee out on the deck while a bald eagle soars over head....WOW it is the best! You will soon discover why this is a 'little piece of heaven!'
Our Lodge provides an opportunity to bring both family members and friends to a unique environment that provides a peaceful getaway from your everyday life.
The cabin at Loon Lake was a perfect setting for a great family vacation. The facilities were extremely clean and well taken care of. The individuals who care for the property for the owners stopped by on our first day to make sure that everything was up to par and let us know to contact them if there were any problems we had. The lake was beautiful, and the water sports items, canoes, fishing boat, kayaks, all worked out perfectly. The paddle boat had apparently been damaged by some previous guests and was not working, but that worked out fine. The fishing on the lake this time of year was a bit sparse, and we verified that with the local residents, but there were enough other fishing locations within a 30 minute drive to satisfy our cravings. Local resturants and stores were all great and well stocked and maintained. We got to go to one of the local county fairs while there and it was a real treat. Outdoor facilities were great and also well maintained. This is not your run of the mill vacation rental cottage...you really felt like you were at home.
And if you get a chance, go find the Gravity Hill....if you dare.......
Absolutely perfect. the pictures were totally accurate. Sitting on the deck , upper and lower one were relaxing, total quiet except nature a it's best. There was nothing we lacked for. Everything we could have needed was there. We even had freshly baked homemade cookies upon arrival. The host checked in and made sure we did not need anything and made us aware of how to contact them if needed. water equipment was there and in great condition. My grandkids loved the peddle boat and also became quite proficient with the kayaks I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone (except those with any handicap or elderly) as it is a trek down to the lake. Legs sore but a great feeling !! i would definitely return. Areas to explore around the cottage were nice - Island llake, the OUTLOOK post at the National reserve. Surrounding geological area interesting and beautiful.
PS we even found a plan on Rose City that delivered a great pizza (just got real lazy one night)
What a wonderful stay we had! The scenery was gorgeous. Loon Lake is so quiet and so beautiful! The cottage was relaxing! We had fun fishing and caught several bass. We can't wait to come back again.
The Lodge on Loon Lake was a very nice and relaxing vacation. My wife and I had our three children who all live out of state along with their spouses and our grandchildren join us for a full week reunion here at The Lodge. There was plenty of room and the amenities were very accommadating. The kitchen was very well stocked with all necessary cooking utensils as well as paper products and laundry detergents. We all enjoyed the refreshing lake for swimming as well as fishing, canoeing, and kyaking. At night we had smores around the campfire and then went upstairs and played cards. The view of the sunset was beautiful overlooking the lake. Brenda, with the management company overseeing the property was very informative as well as professional. I called her as I had a problem with the microwave not working properly and within a few hours, she brought me out a brand new one still in the box. The owners (Jerry and Cheri) are also very nice and congenial people. They returned my call very promptly when I was inquiring about the rental information and reservation. They also returned our security deposit in a very quick and timely manner. I asked my wife and children if they would want to lease this vacation property again if we choose to revisit the Rose City area and they unamiously gave a "thumbs up." I'm quite sure you would not be dissappointed. "Thank you Jerry and Cheri- Great Job"
Located within the Huron National Forest are miles of roads suitable for sightseeing and wildlife viewing. Within a 30 minute drive are several golf courses - West Branch Country Club, Greenbriar, Sidewinder, Fairview, Dream Golf Course and Apple Valley. A 10 minute drive from Loon Lake will bring you to the AuSable River - one of the few 'Scenic Wild Rivers' - open to rafting, canoeing, trout fishing, tubing, kayaking, and swimming. A short distance from the Lodge is the Rifle River Recreational Area. This area includes miles of hiking trails, canoeing, fishing and picnic grounds. Less than a 1/2 hour drive is the victorian town of West Branch where shoppers can take advantage of the outlet shops.
