A family holiday by the lake

This is a very nice house, which has been carefully refurbished by the owner in good, modern taste (well, IKEA), with comfortable beds and bedding, and fluffy towels. Its main disadvantage is proximity to the main road going round Lake Balaton, which means the sound of cars zooming past is ever present, and that stops the house being truly idyllic.
However, It is spacious and comfortable, lots of bathrooms and a plentiful supply of hot water. Not all holiday homes have such good plumbing! Nice dining tables both inside and outside, where you can enjoy family meals.
The location is excellent - five minutes walk from an adorable beach (pedaloes, windsurfers, canoes and table tennis), and five minutes' drive from the gorgeous Tihany Peninsula. Ten minutes' drive away is Balatonfured, a lovely little town with lots to see and do. You can hire bikes to cycle round the lake. There are some excellent clay tennis courts just up the road, and go-karting too, and a convenience store across the road. From Tihany you can catch the car ferry to Siofok, which is worth a day trip.
All in all, I would highly recommend the house as the owners have done an excellent job on furnishing and equipping it. A few little niggles though - the TV is very far away from the sofa, and it is quite small so difficult to see at that distance. There were no DVDs when we arrived. We left a couple there, to start the library - we've always enjoyed the selection left by previous guests at other holiday lets. There is no washing machine, which meant hand washing smalls and putting up with everything else getting dirty. The cooker is quite old and the oven didn't seem to work at all, which meant that cooking options were quite limited. The tenth bed would really only suit a small child.
If you haven't been to Hungary before, or only to Budapest, I would really recommend it. This is a very beautiful part of the world, and everything is relatively cheap, which means you can relax and indulge yourself. And despite the niggles that I have mentioned, I think the house is extremely good value for money.
