Photos and Description of the Galveston vacation house rental

If you enjoy the French Quarter in New Orleans, I think you are going to enjoy our home. Although shown on a former historical home tour, we decided to incorporate a few updates, without changing the feel and character of the home after Hurricane Ike.

The first floor contains a living room, a dining room, a half bath, a bedroom, a fully modern kitchen and a sun-room. From the sun-room, one can visit the back courtyard with landscaping, seating, and a propane grill.

The bedroom on the first floor was at one time the patient receiving room when a doctor owned the home. You will notice that there are a couple electrical outlets about 4 feet off the ground in this room and the sun-room. That's because ether was used in these rooms. The bedroom has a queen sized bed.

The kitchen is a full functioning kitchen including baking pans, soup pots, seasonings, and various goods in the cabinets. In addition one will find storage bags, foil and oil.

The dining room has an antique french dining table that expands to seat 10. It also includes a piano that still works, and serving pieces in the china cabinet.

On the 2nd floor there are 2 bedrooms that have french doors leading to the sleeping porch, which has a door leading to the large 2nd floor deck. The 2nd floor deck is breezy with a cross wind, which makes for few mosquito's in the evening. There is seating on the deck along with plastic glasses and a few plates for snacking on the bookshelf facing the door to the deck.

There is another queen-sized bed and a king in the two bedrooms, along with a futon on the sleeping porch. There is a 4th bedroom upstairs that is not available for rent at this time and will be closed off. It is the front bedroom which Val + I use.

All bedrooms along with the sleeping porch and the sun-room have tvs with dvds attached. The living room has a large Sony with speakers and dvd attached. After constant problems with cable, I gave up and installed an antenna in the attic. We have all of the Houston stations. We also have a wide variety of movie and music videos. We do have internet at the house including a computer already set up in the sun room.

All beds including the futon have memory foam toppers and good quality bedding.

'The a/c's are post Ike along with extra insulation.

There is a large shower in one bathroom and a whirlpool bathtub in the other bathroom.

The driveway holds 3 mid-sized cars. The back yard is gated, and if you wanted, you could bring bikes and leave them there.

The best time to visit the front porch is early morning. I usually drink my tea there before starting the day.

About Tricia Morrison

Although native Houstonians, Galveston was a favorite destination the family loved to visit year around. My oldest son now works here as a fishing captain.

We moved into the property 3 months before Hurricane Ike hit. The battle with the insurance companies has been long and slow. After 3 1/2 years the lawsuit was settled with Texas Windstorm, receiving a net of 58% of the proceeds. There has been no settlement with FEMA, and may not be; which is why the decision was made to share our home with others.

We felt it would be a great opportunity for others to learn how it feels to live in a home that was built for another way of life.

I think in general people believe the future is always better, yet looking back over my life, I'm not so sure anymore. Yes, we now communicate vial texts, smart phones and the internet; yet because we don't use the old fashioned approach of calling and talking live via a land line phone or in person, we don't know how many problems could have been avoided simply because the text or email wasn't received for one reason or another.

We don't have the opportunity to redefine our statements so the other person finally grasps our idea because we don't have the time.

Why; because we are so busy trying to figure out how to make contact as a result of our technology not working correctly for one reason or another. So, we work twice as hard, making work weeks longer and days worked longer.

There isn't time for casual human interaction and in my opinion the reason our country is so polarized. Without human interaction, there is no possibility of a shift toward middle ground.

Visiting an old house makes one wonder when they see something out of the ordinary; and in an old house there's going to be a lot things that stick out.

I think wondering is good, it's makes us think outside our box of coziness.

Tricia Morrison purchased this house in 2007
Why Tricia Morrison chose Galveston

It simply felt right.

What makes this house unique

The home is just down the street from the Pleasure Pier, the beach, Murdoch's and the restaurants and shops around the Pleasure Pier.

Although the railroad museum and the strand area are only 15 blocks away, I would suggest biking. It's the perfect way to get around the island and a great way to see so many neat places on the island. Galveston is a world class birding paradise, and during migration unique birds can be seen all over the island.

If biking is out, another option is the Seawall Trolley. No, it's not the real trolley, those tracks need to be redone. It goes to the Seawall and then back to downtown. In either direction, the house is only a few blocks away from where you can pick it up. It's a great way to return home after partying in the Strand area without having to drive.

The schedule is on the fridge. No, it's not free, but it's quite reasonable.

We had a girls weekend at this lovely historical house! from walking distance to the beach and Pleasure Pier to sitting out under the stars on the back deck drinking wine! The owner was very pleasant to work with and made sure that we all felt right at home for our retreet. The beds were big and comfortable, and TV's in everyroom, too bad the boys weren't invited to enjoy them :)
