New Contemporary Green Studio btw Town and the Mountains
One of the most unique homes in Ojai. Custom built in 2008, the house was designed to work with the hot Ojai climate - a wide sheltering roof, lots of windows, concrete floors keep the house cool in the summer - radiant heat keeps it warm in the winter. 1/2 mile from town and on the doorstep of the hiking trails.
The studio is a small - about 300 sf - space for two. The design is smooth troweled concrete floors - full bath - nice kitchen - has own heat and AC. Minimalist loft type style.
NOTE: only booking two months ahead - thanks
NOTE the kitchen does not have a stove but there is a big outdoor BBQ
There is a non functioning garage door - see photo
non smoking only
pets not allowed

This is a great little place just off the beaten path in Ojai. By little, I mean little, so don't come here if you're expecting a palatial estate. But for one or two people, it's a great size. The location, up against the hills above town is beautiful and the studio is very cozy and comfortable.
The space is a converted garage, and this facilitates its best feature: you can open the garage door to have a completely open-air studio. If the weather is nice, pop the door open in the morning and evening and you can feel like you're outside all day long. If you're looking for a full kitchen, you won't find one here, but there's a microwave and refrigerator, so it's easy enough to prepare simple food.
This is a great, comfortable place in a great location.

Owner's Response: Thanks Ben it was a pleasure having you!
Let me start by saying the 3 of us had a GREAT time in Ojai for the weekend, and we spent little time in the space so it suited our needs just fine. Due to our initial reviews the owner changed his listing to make it more accurate, so perhaps some of the others issues below will be cleared up as well.
It's accurate to say that the studio is a converted garage with garage door and mechanism still intact - and there are no views from the actual studio. The surrounding area is gorgeous, and we took advantage of the easy access to a hiking trail. A big bonus in my book.
There are 2-3 windows up high; overall the place is somewhat dark. The window in bathroom has no covering and looks out at a stairway. Anyone coming up and down the stairs can easily see into the shower and has a view of the toilet. This doesn't bother me at all, but I know that some people might feel uncomfortable.
3 of us stayed there quite comfortably alebit cozily. The beds, including the pull out bed, are comfortable and new, not saggy.
Whether 2 or 3 people stay there, there are limited basic amenities. Things like: only 1 reading lamp for the sofa or pull out bed, and only an overhead ceiling lamp for the main double bed. One bedside table total. No toilet paper besides one roll, etc.
There are also water issues. Whenever the water turns on or toilet flushes in the rental or in the residence above you hear it: LOUD. The water pressure not good, and too hot, difficult to get proper setting for water.
In terms of being ECO or green - well, the main construction and the fact of radiant floor heating (nice!!!) are green, but staying in the studio doesn't really feel like you are staying in a green house. Ajax was available as the dish cleaner, the body wash and shampoo in the shower that is standard dye and perfume filled, etc. Big positive is that they had bikes for use.
There is a beautiful full spread ad and magazine article about the two main houses mounted on the wall in the studio (that felt kind of out of place - like - see the COOL places while you stay in the studio !) Those two spaces looked amazing from the article, website and in person, and I'd rent those two places in a minute if there were more of us.

Owner's Response: This is a small, cool studio at a great price. The photos show exactly what it is. This person was actually an unauthorized third person (didn't disclose upfront) for a two person studio. She obviously didn't know what her friend booked and proceeded to be very critical. Obviously a 3400 sf house is different than a 300 sf studio but 98% of the people who stay here love it!
