3 BR/2 BA just 2 Blks from Beach

This lovely 2-story cottage has 3 BR/2 BA in about 1500 sq. ft. It was custom built in 2010 and has many upgraded features - stainless steel appliances, travertine in both bathrooms, beautiful concrete countertops and floors, etc.

The downstairs of the cottage features an open floor plan where the living room with a 2-story ceiling height flows into the kitchen and dining area. There is a 4 person Dining Room table as well as 2 stools at the bar height counter by the kitchen. In the living Room, there is a 40” flat screen TV with DirecTV programming. There is also a large sofa & 1 wing chair recliner and an additional wing chair. In the winter months, enjoy the fireplace with gas logs with auto starter wall switch.

Also located downstairs is the Master Bedroom and compartmented Master Bath. A single vanity is in with the toilet and is separated by a pocket door from the other area of the Master Bath which contains another single vanity in with the Jacuzzi tub and shower combo. In the Master Bedroom, there is a Queen sized bed and a large dresser as well as an armoire with a 26” TV & DVD player combo. There is a tray ceiling with ceiling fan and a walk-in closet. A French door leads out back to the patio area and in-ground pool which features a multi-colored light system making it perfect for evening swims. The entire back yard is fenced.

Upstairs are 2 bedrooms – one with a full-size bed and one with a twin bed. Both are connected to the full bath upstairs which features a vanity with single sink, walk-in shower with travertine & hand held shower head, as well as travertine floors.

About Jack W. Hess

This is one of several of our family's properties in the state. We stay here part of the year, but can be flexible to arrange around vacation rentals.

Our 2 golden retrievers - Callie and Caleb (pictured) love to swim in the pool and lie on the cool concrete floors. We definitely wanted to make our rental pet-friendly because we know how much pets are a part of families now, but also how hard it is to find nice rentals that will accept pets.

Why Jack W. Hess chose Long Beach

After looking for property in other beach areas, we visited here about one year post-Katrina & appreciated the small town atmosphere of the area and could see the potential for the MS coast to be rebuilt better than ever. We wanted to help be a part of that rebuilding.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the privacy of being removed from other houses, but still close enough to neighbors to not feel isolated. We also love that the property is surrounded on several sides by live oak trees giving the property a beautiful backdrop. The great location (close to the beach, grocery shopping, restaurants, hospital, etc) made it ideal for us. Also, adding the pool recently has made the cottage even more of a place to relax and enjoy the beach-area lifestyle.

Perfect cottage but qwner needs to change approach

We rented this cottage because we were looking for a place to rent next summer for an extended time. There are so many things that would make it the perfect place - access to the beach, allows dogs, has a wonderful backyard and pool, and is so bright and cheery. We loved the cottage but the owner made us afraid to enjoy ourselves. We were not allow to go upstairs under any circumstance, and we were not allow to let our son and his family anywhere but in the backyard, let alone spend the night. Though I'd told them in one of my first communications my son and his family might be staying for one night, I was told the week before they could not, so I had to pay for a hotel for them. We were told they don't allow children because they might put fingerprints on the underside of the glass table! We saw plenty of comments in the guest book that indicated otherwise. He also talked so much about the cottage being his daughters home we felt guilty for renting it out from under her. We were given a long lecture about how if anything goes wrong, if there's any noise or complaints of any kind from the neighbors he would lose his license. I was continually cleaning and worrying about everything we touched and did. I understand owners want their rental properties to be taken care of but an hour lecture from the owner upon arrive and shown he has a Google map of your house is no way to start a vacation. We have rented vacation homes for 20 years and have never been treated so disrespectfully. This cottage was perfect for what we wanted for next summer, but as much as we loved it I can not rent a place where my grandchildren aren't allow to visit nor where I can't feel comfortable and at home.

Owner's Response: I have attempted to address this renter's concerns with her directly, but I was not successful. She had indicated in her original inquiries (which were received about 6 weeks ago) that there would be 2 people and 1 dog in her party for her stay in Aug. of this year. Her son's family was only mentioned as potential visitors if she decided to rent for an extended time next summer. When I contacted her (by phone) 1 day before she was due to arrive to go over check-in details, she stated that she would also be bringing a kitten with her for her stay. She stated repeatedly that she had sent an email about the kitten, but I told her that the email was never received by us. After some consideration, I told her that I could not allow a kitten to be included in the party, especially at the last minute. She then brought up that her son, daughter-in-law and their 2 children would be coming to stay Saturday night (her check-out was scheduled for Sunday). I explained to her that we could not accommodate her son's family as overnight guests for this visit - particularly on such short notice when we had already made our cleaning arrangements for future guests. I did not say that her son’s family had to stay in the backyard – I just stated that I preferred that the upstairs of the house not be disturbed. I repeatedly gave this visitor the option of cancelling her visit and receiving a full refund of her deposit, but she refused. When I met with her party at the rental for the check-in, I went over the instructions that I wished them to follow during their visit (like I do with all guests), and I actually thought we had a fairly pleasant visit considering the previous day’s issues. I am sorry that these visitors were unhappy with certain aspects of their stay, but am glad that they at least liked many of the features of the cottage! - -Jack

Relaxing Stay!

This beautiful little cottage is centrally located for whatever you want to do on the gulf coast. At the end of the days activities it is nice to come home to this peaceful well maintained property. Thank you Jack for opening up your home to us. We did day trips to New Orleans, Ship island, Gulf Shores but it was always nice to return to the cottage. The quite neighborhood, swimming pool and the walks on the beach was wonderful. I found Long Beach to be a very friendly town.

VERY HAPPY

We stayed for a week in april 2014 the house was just as described on line Mr Jack was very nice and showed us around when we arrived. The cottage is very close to the beach and the pool was great except it was cold but that is cause the weather turned cold when we got there if we were going to Mississippi We would stay there again cause there is not alot of places that allowed pets the fence yard was great for my dog

A wonderful stay

This was our first trip to the Gulf Coast, and we enjoyed it immensely. The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was quiet, clean and had all of the conveniences of home! The best part was being able to bring our lab. The warm air and lack of ice on the ground put a little "puppy" back in him.

Jack and Elizabeth were wonderful hosts, and the information about the area from Jack was very us helpful. The dining options in the area are diverse and universally delicious. The Half Shell Oyster House is incredible!We will be returning when the weather is a bit warmer so that we can enjoy the pool and beach.

Located in a nice area of Long Beach just a couple of minutes walk to the beach, the cottage is within a few miles of several new restaurants with Gulf views in Long Beach, as well as a marina and public pier. There are also many more restaurants, marinas and attractions within a 30 minute drive in either direction. With a WalMart a couple of miles to the west and grocery stores and pharmacies located only a couple of miles to the east, you can easily make a quick trip to pick up supplies. The closet casino in Gulfport is only about 5 and a half miles away, and there are 10 other casinos within a 20 to 30 minute drive.

Hwy 90 runs directly along the beach for 40 miles from Bay St. Louis to the west all the way over to Ocean Springs to the east. This drive is very unique because of its mostly unobstructed view of the Gulf for the entire route plus its abundance of live oak trees all along the route. This drive also features the sweeping views from bridge connecting Bay St. Louis to Pass Christian, as well as the bridge between Biloxi and Ocean Springs. Also, the route takes through 6 distinct towns, all with their unique charm.

If you want to go a little further out, you can be in the French Quarter or the Garden District in New Orleans in less than an hour and a half. Just west of New Orleans and also within a 2 hour drive is the Great River Road in Louisiana populated with several magnificent antebellum plantation houses. This whole area offers a variety of activities to take part in or just stay in the peaceful surroundings of the cottage and relax.
