Photos and Description of the Sacramento vacation cottage rental

This cozy studio cottage is nestled on a private lane in the heart of Arden Park/Wilhaggen, two of Sacramento's most desirable neighborhoods. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of the American River and its wonderful bike trail. CSUS is 5 minutes away, a 2 mile straight line down Fair Oaks Blvd. where you'll also pass a picturesque 9-hole golf course bordering the river. Downtown Sacramento and the state capitol are about five miles, also on the Fair Oaks/J St route. There are dozens of restaurants within a one-mile radius, from exceptionally fine dining to great local greasy spoons and everything in-between. There is also a Whole Foods about two miles away.

The cottage is a quiet place, about 500 square feet in size, cozy and well-appointed. It's nestled under numerous tall oaks and next to a green belt. When you are there, it is hard to believe you are in the middle of a bustling city.

The fully-equipped kitchen has a four-burner stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, Cuisinart coffemaker, mixer and toaster. Also included are dinnerware and flatware, linen napkins, a variety of pots, pans and bakeware, candles, wine glasses and a selection of spices and oils.

The double french doors open to an expansive redwood deck under a canopy of oak trees in this rustic setting, courtesy of the green belt which is complete with a seasonal creek below. It's perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or dining al fresco under the stars. The deck has a table, chairs, and lighting and, if you're lucky, an evening view of the family of wild turkeys that has been hanging around for generations.

The cottage typically stays very cool due to its location under the trees, but has an oversized central heating and air unit to insure your comfort any time of year.

There is a television, Comcast cable and WiFi for your laptop and mobile devices.

The walls are adorned with classic Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom posters and handbills and other music-themed art. A selection of books, including many about music, music art and the music business are also on hand.

The full-sized bed comes with down comforter and pillows, with hypoallergenic bedding available on request. A futon is available for a third person, also upon request. There is an iron, an ironing board and a hair dryer.

The tiled bath has a shower with shampoo, soaps and a selection of toiletries.

There is a washer-dryer, laundry detergent and non chlorine bleach.

The cottage shares a covered carport with a larger house on the property (a bungalow that is also on VRBO) and ample additional parking is available on the lane.

The cottage is truly centrally located. There is easy access to Hwy 50 to Tahoe and the Foothills where more than 100 wineries abound; I-5 leads north to Lassen and Shasta or South to the San Joaquin Valley; I-80 to San Francisco, Napa and the Redwoods and Highway 99 to the levees of the expansive and wondrous Sacramento Delta, including the historic levee towns of Locke, Walnut Grove and Isleton.

Why Mike Farrace chose Sacramento

Even in my college years I lived near this neighborhood and wanted to buy here. In 1997, I found the right deal and that became a reality. It's a fantastic property -- full of trees and drama, great light, a creek, really interesting and fun. It is secure and very private, yet close to great restaurants, a library, quality retail, golf and excellent public schools. As you will see, it's a special place.

What makes this cottage unique

We're committed to offering a great experience to our lodgers. I am always be available to see to it that you will be 100% satisfied with your stay.

Cozy and charming

We have a daughter that lives in Sacramento and can't always stay with them but did not want to stay in a hotel. This cottage was a great alternative, a place where we just hung out and relaxed in between our visits. It has a warm and cozy feel so we loved being there. Starbucks and Whole Foods are close as is a wonderful walking trail. We will definitely will be using this wonderful cottage for future visits. It was hot when we were there so I absolutely appreciated the most efficient air conditioning. Lastly thanks to the owner he was very easy to deal with and get a hold of for any questions we had, and we loved the rock and roll memorabilia.

Cozy and convenient

Thanks Mike for the great stay at your cottage. We enjoyed the quiet comfort along with the convenience of having a kitchen. The location was perfect for our needs. We spent some time bird-watching at the American River Parkway, described as the "jewel of Sacramento" and it is! We ate at some local restaurants as well and there are many to choose from.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review, Jean, and thank you for leaving the cottage so tidy. I also wanted to tell you that I did locate a good brewpub about two miles away, a new one called The Kilt near the Whole Foods. All the great imports and lots of local craft beers, interesting and varied menu and nice ambience. Maybe the next time you're in town!

Home away from home...

If you need a place to stay in Sacramento and you don't like hotels but rather stay in a "home" this is the place for you. Unlikely as it sounds a flock of wild turkeys came to greet us when we arrived. The cottage is well located in a secluded location but close to commerce, restaurants etc. Although it is in a suburban area it is 10 min. away from downtown by US Route 50.
It has an independent entrance and parking. It is well provided and has everything you need. Our daughter who lives in Sacramento prepared for us a box full of supplies that we may need. We barely touched it, since the cabin had everything you can think off. It really feels like home away from home. It is clean, well maintained and ample. Mike, the owner, is a gracious host only a phone call away if you need anything.
The American River trails are very close, there is an entrance only a few blocks away. These trails extend for many miles along the river for walking, biking etc.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and highly recommend it to other travellers !

Cute cottage, great location!

I'd like to start the review by saying the homeowner was great! Very easy to contact and extremely helpful with any of my questions. House was perfect, small, but had a kitchen with dishwasher, washer and dryer, bathroom and all the options you'd need for an extended vacation. The only aspect I wasn't completely pleased with was the bathroom, it could use some updating. As for location, it is in a very safe, residential area, more wooded than I expected, and that gives a great feeling of privacy. The location is GREAT, very easy to jump on the highway and get to downtown Sacramento, San Francisco, or anywhere you'd want to travel to in California. House is also close to some great restaurants, shopping plazas and entertainment. Would definitely consider visiting again!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Steve. I appreciate the nice comments and your observation about the bath. It is a bit dated and keeping it spotless takes longer than it used to! I appreciate your taking the time to comment.
