WOODED COTTAGE W DECK CLOSE TO RIVER, CSUS, CAL EXPO, STATE CAPITOL

Sacramento Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Lovely Cottage Under the Oaks is Close to Everything

This cozy studio cottage is nestled on a private lane in the heart of Arden Park/Wilhaggen, two of Sacramento's most desirable neighborhoods. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of the American River and its wonderful bike trail. CSUS is 5 minutes away, a 2 mile straight line down Fair Oaks Blvd. where you'll also pass a picturesque 9-hole golf course bordering the river. Downtown Sacramento and the state capitol are about five miles, also on the Fair Oaks/J St route. There are dozens of restaurants within a one-mile radius, from exceptionally fine dining to great local greasy spoons and everything in-between. There is also a Whole Foods about two miles away.

The cottage is a quiet place, about 500 square feet in size, cozy and well-appointed. It's nestled under numerous tall oaks and next to a green belt. When you are there, it is hard to believe you are in the middle of a bustling city.

The fully-equipped kitchen has a four-burner stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, Cuisinart coffemaker, mixer and toaster. Also included are dinnerware and flatware, linen napkins, a variety of pots, pans and bakeware, candles, wine glasses and a selection of spices and oils.

The double french doors open to an expansive redwood deck under a canopy of oak trees in this rustic setting, courtesy of the green belt which is complete with a seasonal creek below. It's perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or dining al fresco under the stars. The deck has a table, chairs, and lighting and, if you're lucky, an evening view of the family of wild turkeys that has been hanging around for generations.

The cottage typically stays very cool due to its location under the trees, but has an oversized central heating and air unit to insure your comfort any time of year.

Comcast is our cable and Internet provider and the Hi-Definition Digital service includes HBO, Starz, Encore and other premium channels, and there is a Blue Ray Disc player.

The walls are adorned with classic Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom posters and handbills and other music-themed art. A selection of books, including many about music, music art and the music business are also on hand.

The queen-sized bed comes with down comforter and pillows, with hypoallergenic bedding available on request. A futon is available for a third person, also upon request. There is an iron, an ironing board and a hair dryer.

The tiled bath has a shower with shampoo, soaps and a selection of toiletries.

There is a washer-dryer and laundry detergent.

The cottage shares a covered carport with a larger house on the property (a bungalow that is also on VRBO) and ample additional parking is available on the lane.

The cottage is truly centrally located. There is easy access to Hwy 50 to Tahoe and the Foothills where more than 100 wineries abound; I-5 leads north to Lassen and Shasta or South to the San Joaquin Valley; I-80 to San Francisco, Napa and the Redwoods and Highway 99 to the levees of the expansive and wondrous Sacramento Delta, including the historic levee towns of Locke, Walnut Grove and Isleton.

I am Mike Farrace, Berkeley-born and a Sacramento resident since 1972. I grew up in Antioch, Ca., and worked for Tower Records for almost 30 years, publishing Pulse! Magazine and creating and managing Tower's towerrecords.com site and direct to consumer businesses. My full-time gig now is selling rock art and photography which can be found in abundance in my VRBO dwellings. I am very excited to be doing this and enjoy it very much. I like learning and improving so, please, do not hesitate to comment or ask questions. I will respond promptly and enthusiastically. I want to be a great host and will make sure you are happy and satisfied.

Mike Farrace purchased this cottage in 1997

Even in my college years I lived near this neighborhood and wanted to buy here. In 1997, I found the right deal and that became a reality. It's a fantastic property -- full of trees and drama, great light, a stone staircase and creek, really interesting and fun. It is secure and very private, yet close to great restaurants and grocery, a library, quality retail, golf and excellent public schools. As you will see, it's a special place.

We're committed to offering a great experience to our lodgers. I am always be available to see to it that you will be 100% satisfied with your stay.

COZY-QUIET GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
What a great stay this was. It was everything depicted in the pictures and description and more. The flowers on the kitchen table and patio table were fresh and beautiful. The bottle of wine was "yummy" and much appreciated after a long days drive. What a nice surprise to find beer and coffee in the fridge too. The room was spacious with lots of storage room for clothes, etc. The kitchen was very practical and stocked with all the amenities. The bathroom was a good size and we appreciated having the washer/dryer for our lengthy stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the large deck and dining table overlooking the creek and watching the squirrels play. This cottage was designed in mind for privacy from the main house and neighbors. With the beautiful landscaping and lush woodsy jungle, you really feel you're in a remote area while being close to town/shopping. It was very easy to get around and find your way to the American River Trail for a gorgeous and peaceful walk....not to mention running into the wild turkeys many times. Our last night at the cottage, we had 4 turkeys in the yard. I know if we needed anything, Mike was just a phone call away.
We look forward to staying here again and will definitely pass this great deal along. We had local friends that stopped in and found this cottage comfortable and adorable, and will keep it in mind for out of towners.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much, Cynthia. It was a pleasure meeting you and Bob. And thanks for bringing in the garbage cans both weeks -- I didn't even have to get out of the car! Hope to see you again before too long.

RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful place to call 'home'. My amazing man and I had a day of rain and a day of sunshine to enjoy. We were able to relax, unwind, and restore ourselves amidst attending classes at Sac State. This studio provided everything we needed (kitchen and music); close to downtown/Sac St.; and we enjoyed the trees, fresh air and creek. We will definitely retreat here again!

GREAT GETAWAY OUTSIDE DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO

  • 5 of 5
This cottage was perfect for a weekend getaway. It was close (5 mins biking) to the legendary American River Bike Path, 10-15 minute drive to downtown and close to restaurants and grocery stores. It is a studio cottage, with a comfy bed, lots of light, and a little porch for eating outside and relaxing. The only thing I would have changed is that because the place has no screens/windows that open, it wasn't easy to get fresh air (Sacramento is buggy). It didn't detract at all from the experience, but I would have liked to know. All around a great place; quiet, convenient and lovely.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Jessica. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet, but I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I am considering a screen for the front door now, too!

SACRAMENTO VACATION

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at the cottage for the month of March. We liked the location and found it very private and quiet, even though close to a busy street. The levee and bike trail along the American River are only a couple of miles away and a beautiful place for walking. Mike has suggestions for nearby shopping and restaurants and I would add there are also at least 2 excellent bakeries. The kitchen is thoughtfully furnished with a few staples and the washer/dryer was a plus. All in all, the cottage is a good fit for 2 people.
Mike is the gold standard for hosts and couldn’t be nicer or more accommodating.
Enjoy your stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Barbara and Bob. It was a pleasure meeting you, talking politics and running into you around town. And thanks for your thoughtful lighting suggestion. It is definitely an improvement. I Hope to see you the next time you come to Sacramento.

A GREAT SPOT FOR A SHORT STAY

  • 5 of 5
Many thanks to Mike for having us as guests at the Cottage. We had everything we needed for our 3 night stay, and the welcome bottle of wine was an added plus! We had come for our son's graduation from CSUS, and were able to host him and his girlfriend, as well as another couple they were friends with for a great barbeque meal (the table has a leaf). All in all, a pretty spot with a flock of wild turkeys running around that remind you of being far out in the country, but close to the many amenities of Sacramento - a city we've come to enjoy, and will miss since our son has moved back to LA.

The photos are an accurate representation of the cottage, and it was reasonably clean. There were spices and oils for cooking, but a couple more plates would have been welcome. There were plenty of towels and bath amenities, and we would certainly consider staying again if we're fortunate to get this way again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the nice review, Bob. You should have called me! I would have been happy to bring more place settings. I was thinking four was the right amount, but it wouldn't hurt to add more and I will do as soon as possible. Thank you again for staying.

LOVELY VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I recently enjoyed a great five-day stay at the cottage. It was a perfect spot for a vacation including spending some time in Sacramento and touring the "Gold Country" towns north east and south east of Sacramento. The cottage was very comfortable and in a lovely residential suburb of Sacramento. It was easy to get into Sacramento, and there were also nice restaurants close by. Mike was great! I would definitely recommend it to friends traveling to the area.
