River cottage is situated at the end of a 500 metre private lane just on the edge of the village of Ballinacarrow and next to the Owenmore river. Sligo is perhaps most famous for being Yeats county.
The beautiful scenery in County Sligo was an inspiration for WB.Yeats, who is buried at Drumcliff Churchyard, under loaf-shaped Benbulben Mountain. The lakes of Sligo, with their still waters and wooded islands, are enchanting, and form a striking contrast to the county's rugged uplands. The county is extremely rich in archaeological remains and these include a Neolithic cairn on the summit of Knocknarae, known locally as Queen Maeve's grave and the largest Megalithic cemetery in Ireland at Carrowmore. There are some excellent surfing beaches, including Strandhill, Rosses Point and Enniscrone. Golf is a huge attraction for most visitors with famous Links courses such as Rosses Point and Enniscrone. Strandhill and Castle Dargan Golf courses are also nearby.
