About Elisabeth Glass

We live in Colorado but enjoy summers on Mt.Desert Island (MDI) where our sons grew up sailing at the local sailing center. We love MDI for Acadia National Park, its beauty, the ocean, wildlife, and a lifestyle of simple pleasures enjoying nature and relaxation.

We enjoy all that summer's offer from sailing, cycling, hiking, and just living simply in a wonderful community. It is a haven we love.

Elisabeth Glass purchased this house in 2003
Why Elisabeth Glass chose Manset

Mt Desert Island (MDI) is unique among Maine destinations because of Acadia National Park. We love Southwest Harbor for its Maine small town-feel, good restaurants, MDI Community Sailing, and great community. Our home is on the 'quiet side' of MDI, but the cultural attractions of Bar Harbor are only 20 minutes away.

What makes this house unique

Meadowside Cottage offers us simple summer living where we can walk or cycle to the beach, to the Seawall, or to Southwest Harbor. Our home is on one acre with a meadow on one side and a wooded section beyond the grassy backyard. It is convenient to town, but has a rural feel, too. The Islander bus will stop at the house if you wave at the driver and it provides a free ride all over Mt Desert Island including Bar Harbor.

Can't wait to go again.

Can't wait to go again.

We loved our stay at Meadowside Cottage. My party included 2 children (8 and 10) and a grandmother in her eighties. The cottage met and exceeded all our diverse needs. When I look at photos online I wonder if they make it look better than it is. I was responsible for finding the place for all of us to stay. So I didn’t want to let my family and friends down. I walked in and couldn’t get over how great it was for us. It was much better than the pictures showed. We visited mid October and found the weather to be pleasant. The coastal influence moderated the temperatures. We brought lots of warm clothes that we didn’t need.

Let’s start with the bedrooms. There was a separate thermostat for the two upstairs bedrooms so we could keep it cool for sleeping for those of that wanted that. All bedrooms were cozy and nicely decorated. We had plenty of room for all our belongings. The kitchen was fantastic. We had everything we could possibly need. We ate all our meals there and it was fun and easy to cook in the kitchen. The large dining room table enabled us all to eat together in comfort. The living room was very comfortable. The yard had a fire pit which we used one evening-much to the kid’s delight. A bonus, we even got to harvest some lettuce for salads. The house was very quiet. We couldn’t hear the road or neighbors.

And we had access to so many things to do. We brought bikes and could ride right from the house. There were several places to hike close by. We saw a glorious sunset at the lighthouse. It was a short and pleasant drive to the main part of Acadia National Park. We liked being on the “quiet side”. The only problem was the stay was too short. We can’t wait to go back. And we want to stay here again.

The owner was very easy to work with. We are thankful they shared their warm and cozy home with us. It was a perfect vacation-one that I and the others will remember for a long time.
