Overview

Granville Cabin Rental Photos and Description

The Cottage at Green Pond is a cozy, rustic cottage located on a private, peaceful mountain lake (no motorboats). Just steps away from the lake, there's no better setting to enjoy your favorite water sports -- swimming, fishing, or boating. Or, just relax on the screened in porch, on the deck overlooking the water or soak up the sun on the dock. The two bedrooms offer a queen bed and in the other bedroom a twin and full size beds. Three kayaks, a canoe, rowboat and paddle boat are available for you to use. At night, have a fire in the outdoor fire pit and roast marshmallows.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only

About Ben Baker, Sally Baker

The cottage was purchased by our grandparents in 1963 and has been enjoyed by our family ever since. It's our little piece of paradise, perfect to get away and relax.

Why Ben Baker, Sally Baker chose Granville

Quiet location with only 16 cottages on the lake. Perfect to relax and for those families with children this is a great place to swim and to fish. You can catch a sunfish (guaranteed) right off the end of the dock or jump in a boat and catch some bass!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was our second visit to Green Pond. We had a very relaxing time. We thing our dog, Maya, is beginning to like the canoe! Many species of birds again this summer – new to our list for here, is the Double Crested Cormorant and Red-Breasted Nut Hatches.

Thank you for sharing such a special place.

Lakeside paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Greenpond lakehouse is the perfect lakeside getaway. First off, I loved the fact that I didn't have cell phone service. It was great to go off the grid for a few days. Ben provided everything you can possibly need. (Literally, everything! Just bring your food + drinks) Our dog loved swimming after the bluegills as I fished off the dock, and my wife LOVED the kayak.

The highlight of our trip was sitting by the fire and enjoying the incredible stars above!

True relaxation and serenity.

Beautiful vacation home!

Greenpond is incredibly serene and picturesque - exactly like the posted pictures. The home was cozy, well stocked, and great for pets. Our dogs loved swimming in the water, boating around in the canoe or simply relaxing on the dock. The house itself was clean and comfortable with lots of games, books and entertainment for the evenings.

Ben was also excellent - he gave me great advice as to what we needed to bring and he called the evening of our arrival to make sure we were settled in alright. I found him to be very helpful and considerate.

I can't wait to come back!

Green Pond is awesome

  • 5 of 5

This was our second summer at the pond. We love it. It's quiet, dog-friendly, there are canoes, and did I mention it's quiet? We are teachers and found the cabin a great way to unwind before the start of the school year.

Really, truly, dog friendly.

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to find a place to spend the weekend with our aged dog, maybe as our last trip with him ever. In his youth and adulthood, he loved to swim, or ride in a boat, or just lie out in the open with a vista to the great outdoors.

We selected Green Pond over everything else available. It was listed as a dog-friendly place, but that doesn't begin to describe how perfect it was for not just Charlie, but for us.

When you first walk into the cabin, you're greeted by a wide view of a sparkling lake, the deck off the house and the dock just steps away. A little "beach" -- a private stretch of level, sandy bottom -- is right in front of the cabin. Little seating areas on the screened-in porch, the deck, the grassy verge between the house and the lake, and the dock invite long hours staring at the water, or listening for the hummingbirds that visit the feeders constantly.

Some places on VRBO claim to be dog-friendly, but what you get is more like, "We'll take your dog, we'll charge you a lot extra, and even more if he sheds.". Green Pond welcomes your dog with toys in the cupboard and treats in the fridge, with no surprise added-on fees for dogs, and -- maybe best of all -- a nice next-door neighbor who actually brought our dog a doggie ice cream treat!

This is not, however, a place that smells like dog. It's homey, comfortable, breezy, camp-y. It reminds you of the place your granddad owned, where you'd spend long summer weeks on the lake and time would pass as easily as a breeze.

The only drawback -- if you want to think of it that way -- is that there is no internet or cell phone reception, at least on our Verizon phones. This means you'll need to go into town, a few miles away, to connect to wireless internet at the library, or get a cell signal. There is a house phone, however, and a list of phone numbers for the owners if you need to get in touch. We got an immediate answer on the two occasions we called the owners.

But there is beauty in the unplugged vacation. We cooked, enjoyed our dog's last days, watched him swim again and get excited at the sight of fish in the shallows, and saw him stretch out on the grass, savoring the coolness of a Vermont lake summer. We lifted him into the paddle boat and took him out on the lake. It was probably his best vacation in a long, long time.

Thanks, Green Pond.

This was one of my best stays ever anywhere. The beauty and tranquility was something of a fairy tail. Cause I'm from the city staying in Green Pond was an experience I will never forget. I can truly say I'm already planning my trip for next year.
