The nearest town Iznájar, of Moorish origin (from the Arabic hizn, fort, and, achar, refuge) is a picturesque whitewashed village in Andalusia with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside of endless olive groves and the Natural Park known as the Sierras Subbeticas in the southern part of the province of Cordoba, Andalusia.
Iznajar is perched on top of a rocky outcrop below a remarkable 8th century Moorish fortress overlooking the reservoir known as The Lake of Andalusia.
Iznajar is a small village but has lots of bars, restaurants, banks and supermarkets as well as a nightclub. The supermarket is 15 mins drive away in Rute, the hypermarkets are within 40 minutes in Lucena. The sandy beach at the lake has its own bar/restaurant and it is a popular place to relax and have a BBQ.
