I'm the 4th generation property owner. My great garndfather built this house around 1902. There is a family cemetery located on the property. I grew up here and Stokes County has lots of recreational activities to offer. I have lived in many places throughout the US but this area is where my heart has always been. Love it here; you will too!
Debbie Vaden purchased this farmhouse in 1900
The best thing about this property is its incredible view and the privacy the 50 acre property affords.
We had a lovely time at this family farmhouse. Our visit was in March while there was still a nip in the air, and we had fun keeping the fires going in the two cast iron fireplaces for warmth. The kids even got to make s'mores. We hadn't even stayed the first night when our kids were asking if we could come back again soon! The views are fantastic and the beds super cozy. There were a few minor maintenance issues, but none to detract from our stay. Only real hic-up was figuring out the TV, DVD, VHS, Dish system. ( The remotes are in the vase! We will know next time :-)
Great house, very comfortable, and very nice and helpful people to rent from. Plan to go back. Such easy access to Hanging Rock too.
We loved it. Beautiful property and interesting history. The owner Debbie met us there to welcome us and show us around. Oh and that porch with the views! Debbie went out of her way to find relatives that were lost and then lead them back to the house!!! We grilled our dinners and also enjoyed a bonfire, really nice.
This place offered exactly what the 3 sibs were looking for tranquility in spacious surroundings. We enjoyed walks on the property and a hike in Hanging Rock St Prk.
While this home is not a five star hotel it was a five star experience. This sweet farmhouse is very cozy and private. Debbie had the two wood stoves stoked for us and the bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed the day on Saturday touring the local vineyards. We had breakfast at the house, bring all your supplies. The bonfire was great. On the way out on Sunday we stopped at Hanging Rock ten minutes away, and had a great hike. You could spend days here.
We are 55+ and empty nesters. We travel a lot and utilize VRBO as much as possible. We had been planning a trip to the Danbury area for some time, we only live about 2 hours away but love the area. Our first choice of staying at the State Park was eliminated due to a no pet policy in the cabins. Whenever we use VRBO we filter using the pet friendly option. We loved the home, it has history, and is very secluded and quiet. We hope to live somewhere one day where we cannot hear vehicular traffic! The house was very clean and warm with everything we needed! There were no extra fees and did we say PET FRIENDLY!? There is room for more family members but we were alone. The wood stoves and supplied wood were welcome. If you do not know how to heat a home with a wood stove you might have an issue but there are other heaters too, including a Monitor kerosene heater which kept the kitchen plenty warm. We enjoyed the woods to walk in and got to see a woodchuck/groundhog in the front yard and deer also. We enjoyed a fire in the pit one night and even though it got down to 28f or so we were plenty warm. We cooked out on the grill and had a wonderful time. We will keep it as a favorite! You are very close to the Hanging Rock State Park with a beautiful view of the mountain, and many canoe/tubing companies for the Dan River. They are pretty much closed by the end of October though. We did find one available. That is the norm in NC though. The owner was very helpful and I will recommend this property to others. We cooked in the house mostly but did eat at the Cafe at the Danbury General Store. Thanks again!
