Coming to this paradise was worth every minute of the long 18 hour flight to Hawaii. When we arrived we quickly adopted to the life here - getting up with the birds, having a great breakfast on the upper lanai, going out sightseeing, snorkeling, exploring the island, finding great places with excellent food and then just coming back home to watch the beautiful sunset.
The condo itself is really pleasant and offered everything we needed and reflected perfectly how it was described. It became quickly a home for us. The charming and quiet environment with the super nice view over the tropical garden to the sea is a real nice place to relax and enjoy. The Keauhou Resort has been ideal for us - the supermarket was very close, so we did not waste much time in getting everything we needed. It was so nice to drive up Ali'i drive to Kona for a drink or coffee, or just for walking around. Jackie Rays restaurant is a good recommendation to have a nice lunch or dinner, and the pizza at the Kona Brewery is excellent too, a very nice place to eat. We also very much enjoyed exploring the island - driving up north to the fantastic Hapuna beach or further up to the impressive coastline with the beautiful valleys, seeing the huge Ranches, having a great IPA in the local microbrewery in Waimea. The variety of nature is quite remarkable, of course the volcanos and the park in the south are impressive, but this is not everything. Not far away the tropical forests give a such a contrasting experience. Hilo is just a two hours drive away from Kona taking the Saddle Road and beside the Waterfalls, we found the tropical botanical garden a few miles north of Hilo a real beautiful place.
There is so much to see on the island more than we can list here and it is certainly better to read the guidebook.
Thanks very much Rudi and Miriam for sharing your paradise with us.
viele Grüße aus Deutschland
Hoffentlich können wir bald mal wieder hierher kommen! Mahalo!

We just got back for 2 weeks on the big island. After much deliberation and numerous emails back and forth we made our leap of faith and booked this wonderful condo. After cruising around the island and seeing some of the other properties we were looking at we thrilled with the choice we made.
Keauhou is perfectly located for exploring the Kona coast as well as the rest of the island. Costco is close enough if you are a member for the cheapest gas on the island and the cheapest food, downtown Kona is a 10-15min drive and one of the best snorkeling beaches in the island is right on your door step.
The complex itself is obviously well run and you can see there is pride of ownership by all owners. The pictures of the view don't do the view justice. The upper lanai was where we spent every morning and night. Our descision to go with a view over being closer to the ocean was the best choice we could have made
Probably the only negative for us was that the bed was a little too firm for us but this was solved by making our own pillow top out of the blankets in the closet in the bed room. But to be honest this was a very minor thing and wouldn't stop us from staying here again.
From start to finish Miriam and Rudy were a joy to deal with and we can't say enough good things about them and their condo.
A few random highlights for us...Ocean Adventures night snorkel with the Manta Rays. Volcanoes National Park, even though there was no lava flowing. Da Poke Shack on Al'ii dr, a must stop for lunch one day. Sam Choy's, great food and amazing view. A Bay beach, great snorkeling is you walk south down the beach a ways. Mauna Kea beach, there are 40 parking spots for the public at this beach so get there early. Just an amazing beach and the limited public access is what makes this an awesome beach. Decent snorkeling and great boogie boarding if you are just learning.

We arrived at Keauhou Retreat to find no unpleasant surprises, but instead found a condo that fully lived up to it's description and pictures provided in the listing. It is set in a very lovely tropical environment, in a quiet neighborhood, with great views out over palms and other foliage to the ocean from the lanai off of the living room. Neighbors were almost never noticeable. It is situated just a block from the ocean at Keauhou Bay which makes for wonderful early morning and evening walks. Kayaks can be rented there and paddling in and around the normally placid bay is a treat. The shopping center with a good grocery, drug store, and restaurants is also a short walk away. Kailua/Kona is a little over 5 miles to the north and several beaches are within that distance or further so a car would usually be advisable unless one just wishes to settle and relax (The pool is also quiet and very pleasant). I did walk to "Snorkel Beach" on several occasions which is about a mile away. The unit was very clean, fully equipped, and completely stocked with household supplies. Sunsets on the lanai were special and we thoroughly enjoyed returning to the peacefulness of the retreat after a day of touring and beaching. The owners added to the overall experience for they were very responsive to inquiries, communicating on a timely basis. We would heartily recommend this condo to anyone who would prefer a peaceful tropical locale over the hustle bustle of a major resort or town. We would return to stay at the Keauhou Retreat on our next visit to the big island, it suited us so well and we loved it.
We were thrilled with this delightful condo and give it top grades in every respect. It is located in a quiet, leafy resort a 5 minute walk away from a small beach in one direction and the Keauhou Shopping Center in the other direction. We found the shopping center most convenient with its large supermarket, several good restaurants, a farmers market on Saturday mornings,... The resort has swimming pools and pleasant patio areas. Mind you, we spent most of our outdoor time on the many nearby beaches or sitting out on one of the two lanais. The condo itself is beautifully furnished and the complete kitchen lacks for nothing. There is a washer and drier and there were even some basic food items which came in handy. There was plenty of space for our family of three although for four people the condo might seem a little crowded. Miriam was unusually helpful and fast with advice and information. Her arrival directions were easy to follow. The suite was clean and well-maintained, and the internet information was accurate. We would definitely recommend the condo to friends and already have. In fact, we have been recommending it to ourselves for our next trip to the fascinating Big Island.
We traveled to the Big Island to watch our friend compete in the IronMan. I was nervous staying outside of Kona but Keauhou proved to be perfect for us. The location was private and quiet but still close to all of the activities we wanted to do. The condo itself was clean and spacious and homey. The owner set up a brand new pack and play for our infant to sleep in (which meant we didn't have to pack one with us!). But more, the owner was so pleasant to work with. She sent follow-up emails, answered any and all questions, even sent us a thank you card upon returning home. I've never felt so cared for in all my travels. I highly recommend Keauhou Retreat!
We stayed here for our honeymoon and I could not ask for a better place! Anything you could possibly want to do can be done in this area. Close to downtown shops and restaurants, beaches, and we even took a day to drive across the island (a little less than 2 hours) to climb waterfalls and see caves that were old volcano tubes! Every night we watched the sunset on the lanai, which was very romantic. The house was spotless and there were even beach towls in the closet (which we had forgotten). Even though we were in an area with lots to do, the gardens make the house feel secret and secluded. 5 stars all the way!
5 minute walk to the Keauhou Bay, snorkeling and kayaking tours, beaches and volleyball courts. Also within walking distance beautiful golf course with stunning ocean views (Kona Country Club) and shopping center with a variety of restaurants (Asian, European, US), supermarket, pharmacy, movie theatre and post office
