Plaisance is a peaceful haven set in a National Park. The countryside abounds with gorges and the river Tarn with its beautiful hilltop villages including Brousse le Chateau noted as one of the most beautiful villages in France. To the west about 30 mins drive is the pink city of Albi, home of Toulouse Lautrech whose work is displayed in the museum in the city near to the famous cathedral built of early pink brick. The oldest part of the city contains many extremely beautiful medieval houses of brick and wood, along narrow alleyways of smart shops. There are river walks, parks and restaurants to explore. Visit the weekly market in Saint Affrique - a lively and bustling working town on the way to the now famous Milau viaduct set amidst the gorges of the region, a must see for everyone looking for a wow factor. South are the mountains of Lacaune and further on the walled city of Carcasonne, Montpelier and the beaches of the Med. The Brebis local sheep are milked for Roquefort cheese.

The village cafe/supermarket sells bread, papers & provisions is open each morning. There is a Spar within a few miles selling fresh milk. Larger supermarkets can be found in Albi, a town with all facilities and provisions. A local butchers van and fish van visit the village on two days per week. We recommend the steak and the pate! Stairs from the ground floor are fairly steep as in most village houses in the area so unsuitable for the infirm.

Quiet village retreat

Review Submitted: October 4, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We booked this gite at the last minute but the owners were very helpful with payment and travel details. The stairs to the first floor living accommodation are a bit daunting but we had been warned in the house description. Everything necessary had been provided and it was obviously a much used family holiday home.
Plaisance is a perfect location for exploring the Aveyron region and we were spoilt for choice. If you want to eat out a lot you will need to travel. We were not terribly impressed with the only restaurant in the village but we found some great places on our travels and there was a wealth of travel information in the gite.

Relaxing and

I don't really need to say much more for this property as the description for this property is spot on. It is situated in a quaint little village with lots of gorgeous scenery and is really easy to travel to surrounding towns. The property itself is very homely, comfortable and clean, it has everything you need, also with a gorgeous relaxing seating area outside which at a certain time of the day is a great sun trap for those wanting to catch a few rays. I would definitely recommend this property, in fact I enjoyed it so much I went back for another trip. Great little place to get away from it all.

Our party of 4 adults stayed for 14 days in this charming house in the heart of the midi-pyranees. The house is equipped with everything you need and it was the personal touches - classic french beds and bedding, quaint sunny terrace set in a local village on the stunning Tarn that made the stay so enjoyable.
It was a great location to explore the local area and local towns and we found canoeing, waterfalls, chateaus and lively local fetes - the local food is fab too!
I recommend a visit to Cordes sur Ciel and Albi to the west and Cirque Du Navocelle and Saint Affrique to the East, as well as the local villages.
You will need a car to get about, but we really enjoyed chilling on the terrace, dipping in the pool just a 3 min walk away in the village and swimming in the Tarn.
Thanks to Claire and Steve whose personal touches made it a great holiday and we will be back as there was still more to explore!

Owner's Response: Thanks for my first review and we hope that everyone enjoys their stay in Plaisance. We might mention to future guests that we are not directly on the Tarn, as mentioned in this review but are only a short distance away and diving from rocks can be found further afield. A car is definately needed to explore the local countryside ~We recommended joining in with the local fetes as often the evening meals are excellent.
