This recently renovated, first floor apartment with independent entrance, “Bomboniera” is located in the heart of the historical centre of Gallipoli, just a few paces from the cathedral, the beach and Gallipoli’s monuments, restaurants and cafes. The apartment has a fully furnished master bedroom, sitting room, living room (with fold out double sofa bed), kitchen and bathroom.

Gallipoli is a lively and dynamic fishing port on the Ionian Coast of Apulia. The city’s architecture reflects its importance, particularly in the 17th century, for the export of local olive oil to Britain and other part s of Europe. Stately Baroque mansions, once the possession of rich trading families and the nobility, contrast with the tiny abodes of fishing families, along the narrow laneways and alleys of the old town centre. The town centre is full of sights and monuments to interest lovers of history and art which are all easily accessible on foot from the apartment. While during the winter months the major traffic in the city’s port are the local fishing boats which come and go with the day’s catch, the summer sees an explosion of movement with locals and holiday makers from further afield. The beaches within close proximity of the town centre are among the most beautiful in the region. At 100 metres from the apartment is the small public beach known as the ‘Purità’.

The area around Gallipoli: Slightly further afield but well worth visiting are Lido Pizzo, Punta della Suina and several other beaches providing umbrellas, sun beds, deckchairs and fully equipped bars. At only a couple of hundred metres from the apartment, it’s also possible to hire a boat for day trips along the coast (for boats with a motor up to 40 horsepower there is no need for a license). Particularly recommended is the area to the north of Gallipoli which has recently won Italy’s most prestigious award for the cleanest beaches and seaside. Gallipoli is at a short distance from the provincial capital, Lecce (serviced by regular train and bus connections from Gallipoli). Lecce is one of Italy’s most charming and famous cities for Baroque architecture. Otranto and the spectacular Adriatic coast, with views to rival the renowned Amalfi Coast road, are at an easy drive from Gallipoli. Slightly further afield, the world heritage listed Alberobello and the fascinating Val d’Itria is a day trip away.

For food lovers...: Apulian cuisine is fast gaining a reputation as one of Italy’s finest and Gallipoli offers the best in the regional seafood specialties. Many of the city’s best restaurants are located within walking distance of the apartment.
