CAGLI
Cagli is a really old city full of history; this is given also by its original name 'Cale' which is pre-roman. Cagli lies at the foot of the mountain Petrano (Monte Petrano), at the confluence of the rivers Bosso and Burano, in the middle of a fabulous and unspoilt landscape.
TO VISIT
One of the main symbols of Cagli is the Torrione, an old town tower, with its 'soccorso coverto', a secret underground walk which leads to the top of a hill where the cloister of the 'Cappuccini Monks' (frati cappuccini) is. Close to the Torrione you can visit the beautiful town theatre. Another important attraction is the Malio bridge (Ponte Malio), one of the most important finds along the old Flaminia route. In Cagli there is plenty of beautiful old churches and buildings which make Cagli one of the most historic and cultural city in le Marche.
HAND CRAFTED WORKS
The Ebanisti are famous for the wood carving; they produce real masterpieces, and so do also the pipe producer (mastri pipai). Once in a while all the craftsmen from all over Itay come together in Cagli to show their works.
HISTORICAL COMMEMORATION
The 'Palio Storico del Giuoco dell'Oca' is originally from the renaissance period. Every year, the second sunday of August, there is a procession with more than 450 walk-on who march with renaissance dresses on the streets of the historical part of the town. In the evening people eat and party at the four taverns (taverne di quartiere) where you can enjoy the typical local tradition.
