This 1927 home has 6 bedroom/5 baths and guest house with full bath next to heated 40' pool overlooking breathtaking views of Lake Erie on groomed four acre estate. Great for active family reunions-croquet, bocci, Frisbee, football, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, biking on nearby Freedom Trail.
Owner grew up on the shore of Lake Erie and across the Niagara River in Buffalo. Florida Resident since 1982, my family and friends have visited 'Canada' every summer and enjoyed the incredible amount of things to do while boating and swimming in crystal clear Lake Erie. When this home and property became available, we renovated kitchen, electric and plumbing while maintaining the beautiful hardwood floors throughout and the grand salon/living room with huge fireplaces at either end.
Richard Coley purchased this chateau / country house in 2005
Growing up, my good friend and his family lived here and we played football, slip and slide, go-carting, and many other fun activities. Our children and grandchildren have enjoyed staying here during summer breaks, but now everyone gets busy across the Country, so I decided to put it on VRBO so other families can discover this hidden gem of the Niagara Region of Canada.
We are close to Niagara Falls-23 miles and the Napa Valley of Canada-Niagara on the Lake. Niagara Falls has its Casinos, restaurants, and fun nightlife. We are 35 minutes from the BUffalo airport and 15 minutes into Downtown Buffalo with its great nightlife on Elmwood or Chippewa St. Mainly we enjoy entertaining right here on the huge lawn overlooking Lake Erie and the American Lakeshore, often with bonfires in our firepit almost every night. Great for kids and s-mores!
My husband and I rented this incredible home for the month of July.....2014. We had both grown up in the Buffalo area but had raised our family of four in South Carolina. We wanted the opportunity to reconnect with friends and family in the Buffalo area and introduce our eleven grandchildren to their Western New York roots. This property provided the perfect spot. Each of our four children came with their children and spent a week with us with a little overlapping of the families. This home provided everything we could possible want for the month......ample linens, towels, beach towels, a kitchen stocked with anything and everything you could possible imagine......even enough serving dishes and the like for a lawn party for fifty. We spent time at the Falls and of course a Buffalo tour with each family but the best days of all were when we stayed at "the house" and enjoyed all the amenities there.....pool, boats, kayaks, bikes, pool table and yes even the piano.....I coule go on and on. We loved this wonderful home and we all hope for a repeat in the not too distant future. Also thanks to you Dick....you gave us some great ideas concerning the area and were always available to answer questions.......truly a dream vacation that we all treasure!
Minutes from Buffalo, this Canadian lakefront vacation home allowed family members to come and go as needed, but had plenty of room for all of us to be together when time permitted. The home is roomy and well stocked. The pool, the view of Lake Erie, and the firepit were the highlights of our stay, as well as the bicycles in the garage which allowed the grandkids to ride with us along the Friendship Trail, only about 1/2 mile from the home. The gas and charcoal grills worked well and were very much appreciated. Our pets loved long walks up the beach to Thunder Bay. The homeowner was extremely helpful and pleasant throughout the experience, contacting us beforehand as well as during our stay. I would highly recommend this home for fellow Buffalonians who want to experience the Canadian lakeshore!
We are a group of 3 families a total of 11 people that have been vacationing for 8 years together , using VRBO as our site for rentals. This is a great house to rent! The owner is very accommodating to renters, easily accessible via email and phone prior to arrival for all our inquiries, and once we arrived easily available for questions once we arrived. The house is large and cozy. The different "wings" of the upstairs were perfect for our group. Plenty of linens were provided, extra beverage refrigerator in garage appreciated, so much space in the house and property. We could easily gather together or have our own private space. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes for fixing a large meal, there was even a blender with multiple jars , for multiple mixes of drinks or what not. The extras that were provided were in great shape, i.e. bike, kayak beach/ pool towels, and life jackets. The pool and lake were great. The owner provided plenty of little extras i.e., grocery bags, life jackets, wood for the fire pits, laundry soap there was even a basket full of sunscreens in case you forgot , all was appreciated as a renter. The local area was beautiful with a bike path within riding distance, and the local grocery store and Wal-Mart , in case you needed anything are within a 10-15 min drive. Old Fort Erie was a nice visit. Kayaking was as easy as going off the dock, our kids even enjoyed sitting under the apple tree and playing board games, when they weren't enjoying the beautiful heated pool or we weren't off sightseeing. We even saw deer and a fox on the property. Absolutely gorgeous vacation!
Our stay in Fort Erie was all that we wanted it to be. The house was absolutely perfect for this extended family of 14. There were plenty of beds and bathrooms and the main floor rooms were spacious. Having a pool was fabulous as the 6 grandkids, ages from 5-11, loved it and the biggie kids as well. The house was clean, well stocked, with an ample supply of sheets, blankets and towels. The added bonus was the size of the yard which allowed all to enjoy soccer, baseball, Frisbee and kickball. We took full advantage of the fire pit with s'mores as well as the kayaks and rowboat. We all had a blast and thanks for sharing it with us. The dining table was perfect to seat us all and enjoy a real family gathering at dinner time.
The rental property is a perfect place for fun and quality time for families with young children and adults. The activities ( swimming pool, lawn games, kayaks, pool table and also enormous dining table puts everything possible into play). Our family enjoyed every meal as the dining room table seats 12 and the front patio is nice with a great view over Lake Erie. The house has a fully equipped kitchen and bedrooms to accommodate many. The front yard has a great fire pit with a tremendous view of skyline of Buffalo. We really enjoyed fires at dusk or even late evening to unwind after a very active day. We spent post fire evenings playing different games at huge table in dinning room.
During the day there were many activities and often bike rides on marvelous bike path about a half mile away. The path stretches for miles and the house was equipped with 4 bicycles. There is always something fun to do with the children and that makes the days fly by.
The house is very clean with comfortable furniture and beds. There are a lot of places on property if you want to get away for some quiet to read or nap. This includes a great spot by water under a shady tree. At times this is the place to be. All my children and grandchildren love this place. The owner is very nice and makes you really feel welcome.
My recommendation is for large families with children to consider for next vacation.
My family of twelve (age range 13 to 62) spent a week of vacation in this home and everyone had a wonderful time. So much to do without even leaving the property! The house is very comfortable with plenty of room for all. My family especially enjoyed that we could all fit comfortably at the dining room table for dinners. Of course they also loved the nightly chats by the fire pit; daily bike rides; time in the pool and the magnificent view from almost every room in the house! The owner checked in with us to make sure that all of our needs were met and just to offer information about the area. That is a personal touch that we have found at only one other vacation rental (Kudos!). On a scale of 1 to 10 .... every member of my family rated this home a 10. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home. My family will be enjoying the memory of this vacation for many years to come!
