The neighborhood has a common area on the 'Hooch'. The common area is for launching a canoe, kayak, or tube. You can float to the first bridge (1 hour) 255 bridge and have someone pick you up. You do not have lots of space at this area for swimming, but while floating the Hooch you will find many sandy islands for playing in the water and sun. There are two more bridges. Hwy 115 bridge will take you about 4 hours to canoe to and the 384 bridge is about 7-8 hours and located at Wildwood Outfitters Post. You can pay Wildwood Outfitters to take you back to your cabin.
Feel free to bring your canoe or kayak, river tubes, etc. The Local wildwood outfitters will also pick you up at (3) different bridges depending on the length of time you wish to canoe. For a minimal fee of $30 for the first person and additional guest $5 per person Wildwood Outfitters will pick you up at one of the bridges and take you back to your rental. You will need to drive to a private gated community area to put your canoe or kayak into the river if you use the community area.
Being at this cabin is like being with nature! You will have deer, turkery and other animal right in your back yard. You are only 5 mins away from Helen but you don't have the loud noise of being right there. Its a place where you can just sit in the hot tub and melt away all your problems or curl up with a good book on the porch.
We head to North Georgia each year for Christmas and decided to try this area for 2014. The cabin is in a great location, just about 10 minutes from Cleveland or Helen, but still far enough out to be quiet and peaceful. It's much bigger inside than the pictures make it seem, and the kids really enjoyed having their own spaces upstairs. There's a lot of space outside to play or have campfires or just enjoy the view. The hot tub was great for stargazing a night. There's a book full of things to do with recommendations - Nacoochee Village Tavern is definitely a winner (especially on $4 Bloody Mary day)!
We had a minor issue on arrival (well pump went out) and the owner was lightning fast to respond and get it sorted. It was a wonderful stay for our family and we'd recommend it for anyone looking to stay in the area. Owners are top notch and made the difference for us.
JUST RETURNED FROM A SMALL WEEKEND GETAWAY TO HELEN AND THE CABIN WAS THE PERFECT CHOICE! PLENTY OF AMENITIES INSIDE AND OUT! THE HOTTUB AND GRILL MAKE FOR A GREAT EVENING ALTHOUGH IT WAS A TOUCH TO CHILLY TO ENJOY DINNER ON THE AWESOME SCREENED IN PORCH.. THE CABIN IS JUST ABOUT A 10-15 MINUTE DRIVE TO THE MAIN STRIP IN HELEN SO INTOWN ENTERTAINMENT IS JUST A FEW MINUTES AWAY...WE REALLY LOVED THE QUITENESS OF THE CABIN..THERE ARE A FEW CABINS LOCATED CLOSE TO THIS ONE BUT YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW IT! VERY PEACEFUL AND SECLUDED! I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RE-RENT THIS CABIN ON FUTURE VISITS!!!

We spent a great weekend at Mount Allen.
The interior was clean and well-kept. The bed was very comfortable. The living room furniture was also very comfortable (and suitable for a nap, we discovered!). We only went upstairs once, just to check it out, and concluded that it would be a great place to bring guests.
In Helen, it was a tad colder than home and the trees had not leafed out yet. We saw little pollen, and allergies were not a problem.
As we unpacked, we set the hot tub on 104. It warmed up fairly quickly, and within ninety minutes or so we were able to enjoy watching the sky clear while immersed in the spa. We could feel the stress melt away. Since the trees had not leafed out, we were easily able to see the mountains surrounding us, and we could hear the shoals of the river which were perhaps a half mile away. The deck has recently been expanded (or so it appeared) and the hot tub was only a few months old. It worked great.
We drove to Helen for dinner a little after 9pm. it appears that this time of year, most places shut down early for the night or have not opened for the spring season. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the Nacoochie Tavern and would head back anytime. It appears to be a local hangout, always a good sign.
It was wonderful to sit in the hot tub after dark and enjoy the stars. Having had our tummies filled and then enjoyed the hot tub, we fell easily asleep and slept fine. The next day - Saturday - was perfect. The sky had cleared, the sun was shining, and it was 73 degrees. We enjoyed sunning on the deck and in the yard around the fire pit. We didn't go anywhere on Saturday; we had everything we needed right there.
We discovered - much to our chagrin - that charcoal was not provided for the grill. Truth be told, I had Mount Allen confused with another property and expected a gas grill. Fortunately, we had brought along enough other food to make up for the steaks which we saved and ate upon our return home. In the future I'll remember to bring charcoal and shampoo, neither of which were provided. The only thing we found that needed any attention was the slow drain in the shower/tub. Ahhh!
We had a wonderful time at your cabin! It was a little difficult to find, but the hunt was worth it!! Everything that we needed and didn't bring, was there. Hope to return next year!!!
We enjoyed this cabin. It was very clean. The pictures are an accurate representation of the cabin. The sofa is SUPER comfy. There is a brand new hot tub! The owner was always available and easy to work with. We relaxed and enjoyed ourselves! The kitchen is really small and does not have many dishes. (If you want a glass of wine be prepared to sip it in a plastic cup or coffee mug!) It was the perfect size for the two of us but it might be a tight for many more.
