You have found the only vacation rental on beautiful Duck Harbor Pond. At 2 miles long and a half mile wide, it is not a 'pond' but a private glacial lake, perfect for any water sport.
Enjoy the calmness of the lake in the morning, afternoon activities, and evening sunsets from the rocking chairs on the covered porch. Our resident Blue Herons and Bald Eagles can be seen frequently.
Family fun and enjoyment was the focus of our design. We considered families with special needs by including a handicap ramp and 36 inch doorways on the main floor.
Guests with allergies will do well in this house since there are all wood floors with no carpeting, no pets, and no smoking.
* We are in a rural area with little or no cell phone service, so we provide WiFi and free long distance calling from our land line.
Although we focus on families, this is ideal for couples or any group of 6 or less.
Honest and hard working are words we have heard to describe us. We have shared many adventures in the 40 years we have been married. Although we are both technically 'retired', we are always working on a project. In the fall of 2011, we purchased a run down cottage on Duck Harbor Pond. Over the winter we tore it down and in the spring of 2012 we started building this new log cabin. The design and most of the labor was done by us. We hope you will appreciate our pride in workmanship and love every minute you spend in our cabin.
Elaine Wells purchased this cabin in 2011
We are blessed to be permanent residents in our own log cabin at Duck Harbor Pond. Sharing our piece of 'Paradise' with others in this new this cabin has been a great pleasure.
ECO-Friendly and respect for nature and our environment. The logs and all wood are locally grown and processed. From the lights and windows to the appliances and granite, our choices reflect energy efficiency and organic materials.
My boyfriend and I stayed here with 2 other couples and had a wonderful stay.
We arrived after a late on Thursday evening after long drive to find a warm fire in the fireplace. Following that, we slipped into luxurious sheets on a comfortable bed.
Elaine could not have been more accomodating. She lent me her mixer and cake pans so that I could bake a birthday cake and even stopped by to wish my boyfriend a happy birthday.
The property is so pristine, inside and out, we had trouble finding sticks to make S'Mores over the firepit. Firewood was provided along with gas for the grill.
The neighbors were closer than I'd expected, but were not at all intrusive and very friendly.
The kitchen was well supplied with cooking utensils, dishes, etc...even dishwashing detergent was provided. The linens on the beds were luxurious. Elaine provided enough bath linens for our short stay, but if we needed, detergent was made available for the washing machine.
We loved the large table in the kitchen and spent a lot of time around it playing games.
Sunsets on the lake are incredible. Bring a camera! We completely forgot how bright the stars are until we got to Duck Harbor Pond! Sit outside and enjoy the night.
WiFi is available. We used it to keep in contact with the "outside world".
Next time we're going to check out Woodstock...only 20 minutes away! She is very knowledgable about the area, so do not hesitate to ask for help finding things to see and do!
It was well worth the 3 1/2 hour drive from Philadelphia.
The cabin was perfect for a weekend family getaway! We were looking for a cabin to take the family away for a quiet family weekend and this place was perfect. The cabin looks brand new, the pictures don't do it justice. It is clean and Elaine could not be any more accommodating. I couldn't thank her enough for sharing her beautiful home with us and for suggesting the ice sculpture festival which was a big hit with my kids!! I would suggest you bring food or be willing to travel for it, as seclusion is what makes cabin the peaceful hideaway that we were looking for in the winter. Thank you, look forward to seeing you again!!
Lovely cabin, pretty location. No phone reception is a big bonus! Wifi is a great touch for those who have to get their facebook fix! Makes it an ideal get away. It was a very snowy cold weekend but kept plenty warm enough, the owners had cleared the snow and set the heat on for when we arrived. Travel was a little tricky, but owners made sure we arrived ok with custom directions that were very useful. We are trying to find a good weekend to go back...
Owners were EXTREMELY responsive and immensely helpful!! They offered wonderful suggestions of nearby activities to really maximize our stay. They were hands-down THE best! I honestly can't emphasize enough how beautiful and cozy this cabin was!! It was VERY clean, had all the modern amenities, gorgeous views of lake and mountains and very comfortable linens. Kitchen was well stocked so you could dine eat or eat out. Was nice to have both options. Great tasting diner food about 2mi away (they also deliver). Major grocery, stores and shops only 10mi away. Great outdoor activities right outside the door! We will definitely return in the summer months. This cabin is a must-see!!
This log cabin was very new and VERY CLEAN. We were all shocked how clean and well maintained the place was. We had a blast and the place is great for 6 people (2.5 bath is a nice touch). We had problems with the gas grill but the owners (who live down the lake, but never bothered us, only helped!) ended up just driving over their own personal grill so we could still enjoy our weekend. Very little cell phone reception was not a problem because of their house phone and wifi. Neighbors although close by, were very nice and did not bother us at all. I would highly recommend this place to a small group or family who want to get away for the weekend or even the week. We all wish we had more time!
We had a wonderful time staying at this lovely log cabin. The cabin is new, clean and well maintained. The owners (who live nearby if you need help with anything, but will respect your privacy), thoughtfully designed the cabin to be convenient for visitors. Helpful labels provide instructions for the switches and operation of the cabin. The owners stock firewood, soap, kitchen utensils, etc., so you can leave a lot of the basic supplies at home. There is a large living room/diving room area, with a great view of the lake. We spent a lot of time on the porch, enjoying the comfortable chairs and the view of the lake. We also really enjoyed the picnic table and fire pit. Duck Harbor pond is a wonderful place for a relaxing lake weekend. The lake is well stocked for fishing. The neighbors are quiet and friendly (and generously offered to take us out fishing for a few hours), and the lake is beautiful. We will definitely be back.
