Photos and Description of the Watkins Glen vacation house rental

'Harbor West' has fantastic lake views and is located right in 'Downtown Watkins'. Home to the magnificent Watkins Glen State Park, Harbor Walk, International Raceway, visitor center, Clute Beach and a more than a few places to rent & launch boats. We are in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine & waterfall country. Harbor West has 4 BR & 3 baths. It sleeps 10-12 and is more of a family style home with a private courtyard and new sun deck out back. The deck offers yet another place to take in the lake and get some sun - cool off in the out door shower or walk to your boat or a rental in the marina across the street. Walk to all that downtown Watkins has to offer - leave your car out front - there is ample on-street parking. The location is perfect for large family gatherings.
About Tom Schneider

Having visited many wine regions around the world (Rhine River Valley in Germany, Napa/Sonoma in US, Tuscany in Italy, and Hunter Valley in Austraila), we decided to explore the Finger Lake Wine region. We really enjoyed it due to its wonderful wines, beautiful views and amazing waterfalls. With a growing family, we decided to purchase our first property in 2006. In years following, we added two more properties and we continue to improve all of them so our expanded family and our guests (YOU!) can enjoy the Finger Lakes to its fullest potential. The Monster Bar'N Gameroom and Barn Apartment are two examples of how we continually improve our properties. We love to visit the wineries year round for their seasonal events and have camp fires & S'mores in the summertime and boating and hiking at the local Glens (Watkins, Buttermilk and Havana to name a few). One of our most favorite annual events is to participate in the Watkins Glen Cardboard Boat Regatta - check local papers for our 2010 Pirate Ship entry which made front page headlines (see image of Pirate Ship).

Why Tom Schneider chose Watkins Glen

With a growing family, we knew it would be harder to travel like we were used too. With the Finger Lakes as close as they were and offering wineries, waterfalls and lakes, we decided it would be a wonderful place to vacation. After two years of enjoying our home ourselves, we decided to try renting to allow others to enjoy this wonderful property and region of the country. We found that we enjoyed it so much that we decided to continue to expand our properties to serve even more people. We feel our properties allow all our guests to select which type of property will work for them and their vacation plans.

What makes this house unique

We have had people stay with us from Australia to California, Colorado, Texas and all over Europe and Canada. Time and again, they tell us how much we have made our places friendly for them and their families, traveling couples, women's scrap booking clubs, hunters, winter sports groups and automobile club outings. Each of our places are unique but hold the same high standard for your maximum comfort. All of our properties are located on the wine trail and are close enough to Watkins to enjoy all of it's many amenities and activities.

The native peoples say that the Finger Lakes were created by their god placing his hand upon the earth. Today the Finger Lakes are home to some of the best NY State wineries, crystal clear lakes, waterfalls and all season activities. Almost all of the wineries and breweries are open year round. Watkins Glen offers a variety of shops, bars and restaurants with a quaint downtown area and harbor walk. Follow the Catherine Creek trail all the way to Horse Heads and enjoy some of the best fly fishing on the planet. Take a power boat or sailing excursion on the deepest lake in the US - west of the Rockies. Head south to Corning for the famous Museum of Glass and enjoy the Market Street attractions, brew houses and gastro pubs. Then turn east and head to Ithaca for the day to enjoy all the college town has to offer. Niagara Falls and the Baseball Hall of Fame are both just a day trip away. Two ski areas, ample snowmobiling and hunting will keep you entertained during the winter months. Come to the Finger Lakes and see what the area has to offer - and enjoy one of the places we call home.

The home was very cozy and perfect for a girls weekend getaway. The location was great as we could walk to a few places to eat. Since it's at the bottom of Seneca Lake, you can choose to go up either side to visit numerous wineries. Visiting in the winter was perfectly fine, as the carpeted sitting room with a fireplace was a nice touch to escape the chill. Tom was a great help in finding out what hot spots are worth visiting.

Just Like Home

A family wedding brought us to Watkins Glen, and Harbor West was our first choice for accomodations. A thoroughly delightful home, roomy, clean and well-maintained. Most important, it was just the place to "hunker down" during Hurricane Sandy's visit. Felt safe from the elements (wonderful view of the lake, the 5 feet swells and horizontal rain!) throughout. Close to town. Loved Svaard's----quintessential 60's restaurant, owner's and staff terrific, comfort food. Our group was only adults, but I know kids would enjoy it also. Games, TV, DVD, etc. I'm pretty particular about where I stay and I won't hesitate to come back and visit Harbor West when next I'm in upstate NY.
