Casa Regina is a newly renovated house in the “centro storico” (historic centre) of Refrancore, a small village 12 kilometres from Asti and 1 kilometre from our B&B, Cascina Valgranocchio.
The house is on the 'strada di vino', the tourist road map for visiting the wine area's of Piedmonte.
The house is very old, and has 4 floors, starting with the underground cantina (fully stocked with local wines), which has lovely old domed brick ceilings, and brick walls. The ground floor is a open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with a wood burning fire. The first floor has a large double bedroom with a private bathroom. A corridor leading to the next floor, which has a large double bedroom and private bathroom. Perfect for 1 or 2 couples or a family.
It is fully furnished with period pieces, with all kitchen appliances, sheets, towels etc, all you will need to bring is your clothes and personal effects. There is private parking in the courtyard at the rear of the house.
Dear david & Coleen, Thanks for all your guidence in seeing the most beautiful places sourounding Casa Regina. What a beautiful place so lovingly restored. Not enough time to see everything so we must return, looking forward to that!
We were very pleased with the house, which was very comfortable to live in, cool on the hot summer days, and well finished with attractive details. It was well stocked with all the essentials, and we have memories of many pleasant family dinners, supplied from the local stores and weekly market.
The village of Refrancore was always lively & friendly. Community members seem to all know each other & get on well together. All the stores very welcoming to the few visitors like us - despite our limited Italian. We enjoyed taking time to walk the village at some time every day, and getting to know its rhythms.
The region is beautiful wine country with attractive old villages, busy agriculture, and pretty, vine-covered hills. We enjoyed wonderful wines & regional food, great cafes & restaurants.
Our favourite villages were Barolo, Barbaresco, and Old Neive, all in Cuneo to the south. We also enjoyed two trips north to Orta San Giulio on Lake Orta, and Stresa / Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore.
Our hosts, David & Colleen have made the village and the region their home. They were very welcoming, have good recommendations, and have lots of stories to tell.
A great place to visit and explore.
Do you want a great place to rent in a wonderful, small Italian town, located in an ideal area next to Asti? Then CASA REGINA is the place for you. The owners, David and Coleen, are amazing. When we first arrived, David met us and invited us to their cascina for wine and snacks, from the region. They are extremely friendly, and helpful. Coleen took us ladies on a shopping trip to Asti, while David took the men to some local wineries. They arranged dinners for us, as well as suggesting day-trips for us to take and delicious restaurants to try. The Piedmont region is absolutely beautiful.....Montemagno, Barolo, La Morra, Neive, Barbaresco, Alba......and trips north, as well, to Moncalvo and Sacro Monte di Crea. Casa Regina, itself, was a great place to stay........neat, clean, tidy and comfortable. The bedrooms were large and well decorated - by Coleen, herself. Fresh croissants every morning were just 5 minutes away.....we could walk to everything necessary. The coffee/bar/pizza restaurant; the local winery (a must see - the wine maker is charming); the grocery store; Cascina Madonna (a must - 13-course dinner with wines). Everyone so friendly and helpful. Refrancore was a true find! Would absolutely love to go back some day.......
Our hosts David and Coleen were charming and very very helpful ,nothing is too much trouble ..
The cleanliness couldn't be faulted with lovely beds and linen and two bathrooms ,so much charm and care taken with appearances ,including artwork and furniture ..
The apartment is great,so much character lots of room ( we were two couples) plus everything you could ever need is their
Including some of our hosts wine at a bargain price..A dinner down in the cellar is not to be overlooked, some local produce and David's wine ,we highly recommend doing it .
Refrancore is a quaint smaller village surrounded by lovely Italian countryside ,bikes are provided which we also highly recommend trying ..
We have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation and we will certainly be staying here again in the future ,if we are lucky enough to be able to return to Piedmonte the food bowl of Italy !!!
Ciao Jill and Ian ..
We had a fabulous time here. David and Coleen were so gracious and helped make our stay unforgettable. The house was beautiful and it had everything we needed to make us comfortable. We would love to come back again!

Great place as advertised. Basement really isn't usuable for much. You definitely need a car unless you just want to stay in town. I would recommend this place to anyone needing space for four or five people.
First, the property was accurately described, clean and well maintained, and very comfortable.
But the most important thing is about the owners, David & Coleen.
They first greeted us with wine, produced from their own vineyard.
Whenever needed, they were available. They assisted us in finding places to go, arranged for dinner reservations, led us to a secluded picnic location (yes, we followed them in our car!), and arranged for a local woman to cook dinner for us.
My wife had a dental problem. They arranged for her to be seen by their dentist and accompanied her to the office to interpret the language... Way beyond what one would expect from a "landlord".
If you're looking to reside in a small town, this is the place for you. Great location, friendly residents and shop owners. One of the best vacations we have ever had! Most importantly, we intend to come back sometime in the future.
The house is right in the heart of Refrancore. Refrancore is small, about 1200 people, but is what I call a”live” village, it is not like many of the nearly deserted villages in the area. It has 2 bars, a chemist shop, greengrocer, paper shop, bank, 2 hairdressers, hardware store, supermarket, butcher, delicatessen, pastry shop, and a few others. It also has 3 restaurants in the village, and many others in the area.
We are 12 K from Asti, about a 100 K from Milano, and 50 K from Torino, and 100 K from Genova, all with international airports.
The house is within easy day trips to the Cinque Terre, Lago (Lake) Maggiore, Lago d’Orta, the Italian Riveria, Portofino, San Remo, Lago Como, and the famous wine area's of Barolo, Barbaresco, etc.
In 2006, Torino hosted the Winter Olympics, we are less than hour away from where many of the events were held, and within easy reach of the ski fields.
We also organise wine tasting tours, and tours of the local villages.
