Photos and Description of the Santa Barbara vacation bungalow rental

Serene spot with all the comforts of home. Perfect for a couple or small family. This newly re-furnished 'back house' is in a quiet neighborhood, a very easy distance from three gorgeous parks including playgrounds and a lily pond complete with turtles and ducks! Also equally close to State Street, including the historic and spectacular Arlington movie theater, which plays first-run movies, and many eclectic restaurants and shops, offering many choices for every age and taste. Also nearby is the Santa Barbara Courthouse, with its beautiful historic murals and Sunken Gardens, where movies are projected outdoors on summer nights.

The feeling of the house is friendly and relaxed, with light and airy colors and an open floor-plan with a flow-through living room, dining room and kitchen downstairs. Wood floors and bungalow-style windows with french doors let in lots of air and light. There are also two re-modeled bathrooms downstairs, as well as a cozy and charming single bedroom and a fully-equipped office. A nicely landscaped backyard deck, complete with dining table, umbrella, chairs and a barbecue, make outdoor dining comfortable and fun.

Upstairs is a romantic, loft-style white bedroom with wood floors, vaulted ceilings, lots of windows and a view over the rooftops of Santa Barbara to the ocean in the distance. Ceiling fan, glass shower, two sinks and lots of closet space complete this perfect hideaway for a couple.

There are several spectacular beaches very close by, as well as the authentic and beautiful Santa Barbara Mission. Nearby wine-country, including Solvang and the Santa Ynez Valley, is a half-hour away.

There are numerous local beaches for swimming and all kinds of water-activities and sports, including surfing, boogie boarding and kayaking. Great picnic areas are also available nearby.

And the downtown Santa Barbara Farmers Market overflows with spectacular local area produce, flowers and seafood on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Cycling paths and hiking trails are plentiful and many have breathtaking ocean views. Visit The Santa Barbara Zoo, and The Natural History Museum, and stroll The Santa Barbara Pier for fantastic local seafood. Boat rides around the area are also offered. And the very popular Santa Barbara Bowl is within walking distance, for sharing star-studded outdoor concerts under the stars.

About wendy japhet

We are both originally from the east coast, but we've lived and worked in Los Angeles / Santa Barbara area for the last 20+years. Chuck is a graduate of UCLA, Wendy graduated from Oberlin. We continue to travel between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.

wendy japhet purchased this bungalow in 2007
Why wendy japhet chose Santa Barbara

We love our house, it is a quiet place to get away from all the craziness of the movie business in Los Angeles, but so close to downtown Santa Barbara that we can walk everywhere. We are off a quiet street, so it is very private. Santa Barbara is a wonderful place to live, almost every type of physical activity can be had right outside the front door. I'm a cyclist, and it's world class cycling here. Lots of bike paths or mountain paths to climb. Swimming and surfing is among the best in the world. Fantastic wineries and restaurants downtown are extremely close. And the restaurants are world class, many are a few blocks away.

What makes this bungalow unique

I liked the house when I first walked in, but fell in love with it when I went upstairs and saw the ocean. It is immediately clear it is a private space, very fresh and, airy and light all day. I knew that I could live here for a long time.

Loved our stay

We found the property to be perfect for we three. The upstairs Master with ensuite was very comfortable, the small downstairs bedroom had it's own bathroom, and the sofabed arrangement was adequate for the third member of our party.
The home is tastefully decorated and very attractive, and all the conveniences of home are available, and the outside sitting area was great as the weather cooperated while we were there. The kitchen is well equipped and very functional, the dining area worked well, and there was a stereo, andTV in the living room and a TV in the Master.
Walking distance to the restaurants, galleries and historical buildings around State Street is too lengthy for elderly people but fine for regular walkers. The area was quiet, and the neighbourhood is well looked after and attractive.

We had a lovely time in this quaint little cottage. Everything we needed was there. It was close to everything. Downtown, beach, riviera, mission, Mesa, etc. Perfect location and very nice and quiet. I would rent there again and I'm very picky!

We had our Thanksgiving family get-together at this house. It is such a charming house we absolutely loved being there! The living-dining areas are spacious and comfortable. Upstairs bedroom is also spacious, lots of windows, and surprisingly private given the in-town location. The kitchen is well-equipped with high-quality cooking tools/equipment, as well as many different spices. Windows let the air and light into the house. The location was perfect for us, easy walking distance to downtown and parks, and just minutes by car to the beach/wharf. The owners: extremely nice and easy to work with, prompt to answer any questions, flexible and accommodating to us the traveling party. We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Thank you.

My husband and I stayed at the cottage for 5 weeks this summer. Our experience from the moment we met the owners to when we checked out was absolutely great. The house itself is wonderful. Perfect for a couple, with an additional bedroom for a guest or a third person. The space is great - very open from the kitchen to the dining and living area. Lots of light and space. The upstairs bedroom is a dream. Lots of light, views as far as the eye can see and the comfort of what feels like your own bed. There is a great back patio, with bbq and table to dine.
The location and house itself are fabulous. To have owners that are kind, easy to work with and responsible made the experience even better. Should we ever need a place to stay again in Santa Barbara, this will be the first place we look. It feels like home!
