We decided to buy this property because after 25 years of travel to various Caribbean Islands, Europe, the Mediterranean, Central America and South America, we always return to the Cayman Islands. This is where we have always felt the safest. We have had some medical emergencies while visiting in the Cayman Islands and have received great local medical care. We are now traveling with our grandchildren. The Cayman Islands provide us a safe, care-free vacation destination . The beach is peaceful and quiet. The scuba diving and snorkeling is fantastic. This portion of the Seven Mile Beach is the nicest and closest to restaurants, shopping and various amenities.

The beautiful view from the enclosed deck and lovely sunset convinced us that Cayman Reef Resort and specifically unit # 35 is the condo to buy. Those long lazy walks on the white sand beach and the tantalizing dips in the warm Caribbean sea, sold us on this home.

Had a wonderful stay at this Condo. Right on the beach and near many restaurants. Plenty of beach and pool ammenities. The condo was comfortable and well furnished. We enjoyed our breakfasts looking out on the ocean. The staff were also wonderful and helpful. We will be back!

Cayman Paradise Rental

Posting and photos on VRBO was accurate description of condo. Owner was extremely helpful throughout the process, answering questions and providing tips on what to do in Cayman.

Positives:

-Great location. Only 50 steps from one of the best beaches in the world (IMO). 7-mile beach is wonderful. Very soft white sand the beach and well into the water; very calm water (probably protected by a reef way out there). Safe for kids. OK snorkeling was available about 50 feet offshore. Sunsets were amazing everynight; many people at the complex sat outside every night by the beach to watch the sunset.

-Walking distance to many restaurants. Wendy’s was directly across the street for a quick bite. We also enjoyed Cimboco for local food. Other restaurants we walked to were Chicken-Chicken, Quiznos, Marriott (3), and another bar nearby on the beach.

- You could rent SUPs, kayaks, waverunners etc at Marriott nearby.

- We rented a car from Andy’s Rental (5 minute walk) and drove to George Town (tourist section for the cruise ships), Turtle Farm, Hell, Rum Point, Starfish Point. Taxi’s and buses are also available (buses are actually very cheap if you take the time to figure them out).
Every place takes US$ so no need to change money; although you get back Cayman$ in change.

Negatives (minor):

- Cayman is expensive. You just have to get over spending $100+ for each decent meal for a family of 4 (Even Wendy’s was $40!) and paying 2x normal US prices for everything else even in the grocery stores. Not sure how people live there all the time.

- Walking to the nearest grocery store was a bit far. There are two nearby, but it was about a 20 minute walk either way along a busy street, so not easy if you don’t have a car. Grocery stores closed on Sundays, but open to 11 pm most other days. There is a gas station (Rubis) very close that has most essentials when in a pinch.

- No bar soap or shampoo was provided - bring your own. Toilet plugged easily, but plunger was provided to unplug

- Cruise ships come in almost every day and overwhelm some of the planned activities (didn’t impact traffic on our 7 mile beach thankfully). Plan any activities away from 7 mile beach around cruise ship times. There are several websites that show times they are in port so plan accordingly. George Town tourist areas close down after 5 pm when cruise ships leave.

Owner's Response: You are right downtown is busy when the cruise ships are in. Fortunately our beach remains peaceful and quiet even when the cruise people come to Grand Cayman. The area around our beach does not get affected by the cruise people. Cayman is expensive, but the beauty of Seven Mile Beach and the safety of the island make it worthwhile. Thanks for the review.

Excellent value

This was our second stay on Grand Cayman and this apartment is certainly excellent (we stayed at Rum point last time, which is much quieter and more isolated). The location of this condo was great for a visit with young children, mainly because Camana Bay is within easy walking distance -- and there you have Story Time at the bookshop, fountains, ice cream shops, and our 5 year old took a cooking class for kids which she loved. We probably spent an equal amount of time on the beach at the condo, and sitting at the harbour in Camana Bay reading books and taking in the scenery. I'm not a big fan of baking in the sun on a beach, and I agree the umbrella numbers are inadequate and because they can't be angled into the sun they are fairly useless anyway except around noon when the sun is directly overhead, and a shady screened-in patio like some of the other surrounding units have (instead of a glassed-in area) would have been nicer (although that would have reduced the size of the condo), but overall that was a minor issue for us. More beach umbrellas might have ruined the million dollar view anyway; as it is the view is great and only obstructed a bit by a white railing along the beach.
The condo was very clean, exactly like the photos, and in very good shape except for the sofa bed which was too sagging to be used by adults (needs new tensioner springs). The owner has said he will get that fixed. He is by the way extremely responsive and helpful. The one night we tried the TV there were no problems with it, but then again swimming in the pool under the stars was much more attractive than watching TV anyway.
The Night Club Royal Palms is nearby but we never heard anything from there, even on Mardi Gras when they had a party going (apparently). The complex was dead quiet in the evenings.
So overall, very recommended as a base for exploring the island and Camana Bay. You won't find better value for your $$ in this part of 7 mile beach.

Owner's Response: Thanks Michael. There are truly never enough umbrellas on the beach. I'm glad you enjoyed our condo. Ii thought the extra memory foam was enough for the pull out sofa. I will fix that.

Addition to previous review in Jan 2014

In addition to the review my wife posted for staying here Jan. 18-25/2014, I have to add the owner Joel was extremely quick in returning any questions I had about the property or Grand Cayman in general. Its nice to have this contact to reassure any questions before your vacation. The property was immaculate when we arrived and the office could not have been better. We did not rent a car and didnt need it as restaurants were a plenty within a 10 min walk. Cimboco great for breakfast and it was nice walking to the Marriott in the sand to get a morning coffee. Definitely cant do that back home! The food and service were much better than we anticipated. Copper Falls was phenomenal as was Ortanique in Camana Bay. (We went to Ortanique 3x during our visit.) Just a perfect location and the only complaint we had is, like my wife had stated earlier, they could have put the beach umbrellas out more than just one day. Really the only downfall, but a very important one as shade is needed there. I would recommend Joel's property to anyone as the entire process was first class and what u want in a Caribbean vacation. The office personnel were great including Sandi who helped us out with a makeshift umnbrella while we were there. Just would have been nice if the umbrellas were out more for guests use. We have been to other Caribbean islands just as windy and never an issue with shade. Overall, thank you Joel for a great vacation and we would love to come back soon!

My wife and I loved the location of this property on 7 mile beach. The property was clean and pretty well maintained. The staff that managed the property were very friendly and helpful. The only problem that I had was there was no shade for those beach goers with fair skin. Maintenance decided not to put any of the five umbrellas out because it was too windy. They had them out one of the seven days we were there. Need to come up with better idea for shade! Otherwise, nice property .

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed our condo. Unfortunately with the unusual wind activity, the administration decided to keep the umbrellas off the beach.
