Monte da Tojeira is an old farmhouse preserved in its structure and transformed in its function. Today this place is to receive people from distant lands and to share values like ecology or tolerance. A 'Monte' is a set of houses that had the same owner but different functions regarding agriculture. The one we are renting now is Casa do Pátio. The renters share with the owners a 10m per 5m (0,5 to 2,5m deep) swimming pool and gardens. Also we want you to appreciate the things that we love there: living according to the rhythms of nature, the pleasure of sunbathing or taking a nap (sesta), going by bike to the nearest village (1,5 km) for shopping. You can also visit several wonderful nearby villages and appreciate people, food, historical sites, buildings, and so many other things!

Magnificent region, magnificent people.: This is one of the most beautiful regions of the world, just next to Spain. This cottage is right in the middle of a triangle formed by Flor da Rosa - Portalegre - Marvão e Castelo de Vide, jewelleries of the ancient Portuguese culture. You can visit the monuments, the museums, the prehistoric settings or just walk around and appreciate the streets, the people or the tasteful food.

If you want to find peace and quiet, this is your place. We stayed for 10 days in september and had a very good time.
Discover the surrounding area with nice places like Castelo de Vide and Marvao, make a hike in the Sao Mamede or do nothing and relax next to the swimmingpool. Moreover, the people that run the place are very friendly!

Relax and Return to Nature

If you are looking to escape from it all and relax and get back in touch with the rhythm of Nature and yourself then you can do no better than Monte da Tojeira. Beautiful setting in old farmstead, well landscaped and set against a stunning backdrop of mountains separating Spain and Portugal. The Alentejo is a way of life and what a wonderful pace of life it is for those who value slowing down and just being for a time.

The house is tastefully and authentically furnished, cool in the hot Alentejo summer but I imagine also keeping warm in the cooler winters, the pool a delight and the Indian figs beside the pool a joy, a real thirst quencher. Ana and Paulo are very welcoming and warm hosts. Ask them first about the Indian figs before attempting to eat them! Great local food available in nearby towns and villages, can turn your stay in a gastro experience if you are so inclined...Vale a pena!

There are many beautiful villages and towns nearby like Marvao which are fortified, perched atop mountains , the old line of defence - absolute gems, each one worthy of a UNESCO listing in my view.

Rest in the Alentejo

The Mount of the Tojeira is a very calm place, with very likeable proprietors. The children had liked the swimming pool. I and my woman very liked it silence and the calm.

Who to want vacations in a very pretty region and a likeable house will choose the Mount of the Tojeira.

- "Ana we love the delicious vegetable baskets".
