**This property is about 150 - 200 yards from the usable beach and water, depending on the location of the tide. There are a few different beach accesses on Marlin Drive and the further you go towards the end of the road, the shorter the walk to the beach is. Access to the beach is available to the right or left about 10 houses down. Although if you go to the last access at high tide you will not be able to access the beach**
On our barrier islands, the tides are semi-diurnal, which means that our shoreline experiences two almost equal high tides and two low tides each day. At high tide, the water can swell to an average of 7-9 foot tides. At low tide from this section of beach, you may find that you walk out about 300 yards to get to the ocean. The beach also changes from month to month and year to year.
Fripp Island is a beautiful barrier island on the Atlantic Ocean outside of Beaufort, SC. The island is about 5 miles long with 3 1/2 miles of white sandy beach. Fripp Island is also a private gated community where we have 24 hour security at the gate. This tropical destination offers lots of amenities such as golf, tennis, swimming, fishing and crabbing. Fripp Island has several pools, restaurants, a food court, bar, a fitness center, a tennis court, 2 golf courses (Ocean Point Golf Course and Ocean Creek Golf Course), island excursions rentals, shops, a playground, bike trails, the marina, and Camp Fripp (daily activities). All of these items are available with the purchase of Guest Cards, which give you access to the Fripp Resort amenities.
My husband and I are retired, and spend part of the year at Fripp and part in Wisconsin. This is a great way to enjoy our children and grandchildren, besides avoiding the coldest part of the year up north.
I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it for sale online in 2004. We knew we wanted to be in the low country, preferably on Fripp Island to enjoy the tropical paradise, the ocean and beach, and take advantage of the amenities the resort island has to offer.
We have been able to share the Beaufort area with lots of our friends from Wisconsin, many of whom have never been here. The house is so roomy and comfortable for a number of people, they all want to come back. In fact, many of them do come back with their families. You know it has to be good if they are willing to come back that distance from Wisconsin!
"Great house to share with multiple family members!" We traveled to Fripp to share a week with my brother and brother-in-law and sister-in-law and everyone's families. what a great vacation. We had 8 adults and 7 children ranging from 2-13 years. the house was huge and easily accommodated all of us. Everything we wanted from the house it provided us. It is a slight hike from the house to the beach but the upside is we did not share the beach with many people. the beach was beautiful, all sand and had a great sand bar a ways out that the kids had a blast searching for conch shells which they were able to observe in their own environment. I highly recommended this home.
This home provided the perfect getaway for our Business Retreat. Multiple bedrooms with a view, large gathering spaces and a great kitchen. We found that the relaxing atmosphere allowed for great work productivity which then gave us FREE time to bike, walk, golf, play volleyball & explore. I would recommend this location for a Family Reunion location as well!
We stayed at one of the beach house a couple of weeks ago and it was the perfect space for our team retreat. The house was exactly as it looked in the pictures and the staff was super helpful and friendly throughout the entire process!
10 of us stay at home Mommies from Augusta, GA spent a weekend in this wonderful home! The kitchen was amazingly equipped, we could not get over how COMFORTABLE the beds were, and the house is so well maintained! The deer are unbelievable - they are so tame and just beautiful. Our only complaint was that time seems to pass much more quickly at this house! Thank you so much, Betty, for sharing your fantastic home with us! We loved it!
We rented Southern Comfort with three families (6 adults and 9 kids) for an incredible beach vacation. The house was big enough to hold all of us comfortably with room to spare. The beachfront location is great, despite being a bit of a hike through a marsh, brush and dunes - it's nice to have beach during all tides on Fripp and well worth the walk.
I recommend this home and look forward to our next visit.
The home was old and needed a lot of work. One refrigerator leaked another freezer didn't freeze. The air conditioning didn't work in the front of the house. Walk to beach was scary (we had a snake in our path one day). Not a great place for my elderly parents. Employees on the island were rude. for this much money i expected much more.Would not come back
Thirteen adults, all over 55, were lucky enough to sync our schedules to spend a week in this magnificent house on the beach in October, 2012. Many of us had never been to South Carolina, and we thought we would tour Savannah and Charleston, maybe get over to Hilton Head. We did none of these things (although we easily could have), because we found so much to do and see in Beaufort and the surrounding islands. We had a wonderful experience, the beach is beautiful and only steps from the door, and many of us are planning to come back with our families and rent this house. We were all very comfortable sleeping, and we cooked most of our meals in the well appointed kitchen, although we did experience some wonderful restaurants and southern food. I would highly recommend this charming home, for it truly did feel like a home.
From the south: Take I-95 North, take S.C. exit 8 (Hwy 278/Beaufort/Hilton Head). Turn onto Hwy 278, toward Hilton Head/Beaufort. Travel approximately 4 miles and turn left at the sign for Beaufort. (If you pass the Wal-Mart, you missed the turn). Stay on this road until it dead-ends at Hwy 170. Turn left onto Hwy 170 and continue for about 11miles, cross the Broad River Bridge, and turn right onto Hwy 802 (the next right turn after the bridge at the BP Gas Station). Take this road for a couple of miles until it comes to an end and turn right to stay on the same hwy. Stay on Hwy 802 (you’ll cross over the bridge by Parris Island) until you come to a fairly major intersection with a CVS, a gas station, a Hardee’s, and an auto parts store. Turn right at this intersection. You will still be on Hwy 802. (You’ll know it’s the right turn because you’ll see signs for Fripp Island). At all times, follow the signs toward Fripp. You’ll cross another bridge over to Lady’s Island. After crossing the bridge, travel another mile or 2 and make a right hand turn onto Hwy 21. A video rental store and a Publix will be at this intersection. Go approx 15 miles on Hwy 21. Hwy 21 dead ends onto Fripp Island. After checking into the Guard Gate on Fripp, continue onto the Island. Turn left at the sign for Ocean Point. Turn right onto Marlin. Follow that road until you reach our house at 763 Marlin.
From the north: Go I-95 South, take exit 33 (US-17 N) toward Charleston/Beaufort. Go approximately 8.5 miles and turn right onto US-21 S/Trask Pkwy. Follow US-21 S/Trask Pkwy for about 14 miles, then stay straight to go onto US-21 BR/Boundary St. Continue to follow US-21 BR (through downtown Beaufort), which becomes US-21. Continue another 17 miles until the road ends at Fripp Island.
