Relax and enjoy in tranquil and beautiful Kailua, a friendly small town just 30 minutes away from Honolulu!
Enjoy your visit in this cool, airy, and bright 1,285sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 bath rental. There is a full kitchen with dining room and two lanais, one in the front and one in the back of the house. The property has a very welcoming feeling to it, the neighborhood is great, and the outdoor area provides a wonderful venue to enjoy Oahu's nice weather.
Kailua Beach, one of Hawaii's finest, is only a couple of blocks away from this rental (about a 5-10 minute walk). You will access the beach in its mid section, which is less crowded than the beach park section and has better boogie boarding and some tree-shaded areas, and the sunrise is fantastic (make sure you bring your camera!)
If you like sea and outdoor activities, Kailua beach is a terrific place to do boogie-boarding, kayaking, kite surfing, swimming and (small waves) surfing. There are beautiful trails in Kailua and neighboring Lanikai that have breathtaking views of the Windward coast. In addition, outdoor activities are accessible all over the Island of Oahu, and it only takes about 3.5 hours to drive around the whole Island, so everything is close.
If you enjoy shopping, Kailua offers all kinds of stores: all the way from typical and familiar brand stores like Macy's & Pier 1 Imports to chic and vintage boutiques, antique stores, and art galleries.
Kailua also has excellent restaurants, juice bars, shave ice locales, bakeries, and cafes. We have put together a booklet that lists all these food and drink venues and we will also be happy to give you personalized recommendations based on our own experiences!
There are also lots of activities in Honolulu, which is only half an hour away by car (public bus is also available): theater, music, performing shows, museums, movies, etc.
So why not get the best of both worlds and enjoy the lively and busy action of Waikiki and Honolulu and spend the night in slow-paced Kailua?
We hope to see you soon!
I moved to Hawaii from California seven+ years ago, after falling in love with the Islands during my first visit. I like the calm, friendly, and safe atmosphere of Kailua and all the fun water and outdoor activities. I enjoy the variety of cuisine available and interesting outlets like independent bookstores, boutiques, and cafes.
Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 2006
The proximity to beautiful and quiet Kailua beach and the friendly neighbors who have been around for decades, give this property a strong sense of being in and enjoying Hawaii.
It is a location off the beaten path and the property has nice palms and plumeria trees with, during the season, gorgeous flowers with a delicious fragrance! The easy access to the beach allows us to enjoy early walks on the beach, fun beach outings with the family, and free exercise in the form of walking, running, swimming, kayaking and surfing! :)
we very much enjoyed our time at the Kalama Beach house. We have a 4 year old child who traveled with us and this house was very child friendly. She very much enjoyed the wide selection of children's books to read while we were there.
The house was very close to the beach and a short drive to the shopping areas of Kailua. It was clean and all amenities worked as I expected. The portable A/C unit in the master bedroom was appreciated for some of us who don't handle hot nights all that well!
The owners had prepared a very nice, customized local guidebook to the area. It had a few things that we couldn't find anywhere else, like how to get to the turtle beach. The restaurant reviews were nice as well.
There was a nice selection of kids' beach toys and other beach gear for us to use. The clothes washer and dryer worked well, no problems there.
The only thing that would have made our trip nicer would have been some bikes to use, but that's not anything I hold against the owners.
The oversize doors were nice when walking in with groceries and luggage. I suppose they would be useful if a visitor were in a wheel chair too. With only one step down to the kitchen, it was a fairly ADA friendly house as well, although the bathrooms were not designed with a wheelchair in mind.
We spent a week at the Kalama Beach House and loved it! It was very clean and well maintained with plenty of room for all of us. There were plenty of towels, sheets, pillows, etc., not to mention access to boogie boards, beach chair, toys and more. The WiFi throughout the property was outstanding, and our kids loved having WiFi access for their devices during our "down time" from the beach. Speaking of the beach, it is phenomenal and only a ten minute walk from the front door.
Kailua is a fantastic beach town, close to everything, but also far from it all! We loved the Hawaiian shaved ice at Island Snow Hawaii just a few minutes away. Actually, we loved everything about Kailua.
This house is a great deal!
Mahalo to Eva and Tony for letting us stay in their home for a week. Our family of four (8 year old girl and 6 year old boy) enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. The place was clean and filled with great wonders: books, Eva's binder of menus/things to do in Kailua, dishes, special welcome gifts, Kona Coffee, kid movies and toys and books.
All of our questions were answered immediately. All of the information that was provided to us before we even got to Hawaii was so useful and professional. The instructions to the house were clear. We just got lost because a huge tree was covering the street name and we were looking at all of the cute homes nearby.
We used their snorkel sets to check out all of the fish in the nearby bays. The kids loved the boogie boards and beach toys. Spices, toiletries, linens were all provided. We just felt at home and not at all like a hotel tourist. The outside shower was so nice so we could wash off all of the sand from the MANY nearby beaches. The plumeria trees in the yard were in full bloom..we brought many blooms inside to enjoy the color. Mahalo for including laundry detergent so we didn't have to buy our own. All of these extra touches just made our first visit to Hawaii that much better. It made us want to never leave!!!
Oh, and we found a quaint little church, Calvary Church of the Islands, that had the Aloha spirit through and through. Definitely have to try the Farmer's Market in Kailua. Never found a better Blackened Ahi than at that Market. We also bought papayas, apple bananas, mangoes, Ono pops there. Mahalo Nui Loa, Eva and Tony for this special place.
We had the opportunity to stay at the house for 3 months and we are still trying to land back to ours! The experience was so amazing, it felt like we left home in the end.
You will find everything you need and more. The owners were always on top of things even by emails and the management on site is just fabulously nice and accommodating at best.
We wanted to spend our winter outside and thanks to the constant nice weather and the big front yard, we did everyday with our little 2 year old: She loved it. Definitely Kailua is THE place for families to spend quality time and in Eva&Tony's home, you'll get the full package!
We had a great time during our stay in Kailua. Our twelve year-old son and ten year-old daughter really liked having their own room. The house was close enough to the beach (10 min. walk) and it felt like we had our own private beach. Having a full size washer and dryer allowed us to pack "light." All the beach amenities made our beach days more fun.
The property was bright and clean as described on VRBO. Eva and Tony were not there during our stay but we maintained contact by email. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Kalama Beach House!
We had a great time at the Kalama Beach House. We have friends who live in Kailua and have rented several vacation rentals in the area in the past. This was by far our favorite. Our kids loved having their own room/beds and all of the kids books. Everything was very clean and the beach equipment came in handy. The owners were quick to respond to any questions and left very detailed instructions. They also had a comprehensive book with information on the area. Thanks Eva (and Tony)! We hope to stay at your rental again in the future.
