Photos and Description of the Ashland vacation house rental

The Jessel House is a quiet residential lodging located within walking distance to theaters and downtown. The large home has been made into two flats, each with private entrances, patios, and decks for outside sitting and dining. The kitchen in the Mt View flat is fully equipped with utensils, appliances and table service. All linens are provided.The 3 bedroom Mt View flat will accommodate 8 and it is suitable and comfortable for family and or groups. The home at one time belonged to Susie Jessel, a famous faith healer during the 30's to 50's. Historic information and photos about this famous Ashland faith healer will be available. In addition,award winning watercolor artist and teacher Jane Hardgrove will display some of her original landscape and abstract paintings throughout the Jessel House.
About tim rutter

I have been living in Ashland since 1978 after have living in the Applegate Valley for 4 years. My wife and I came to Southern Oregon with our lst son to escape the large cities in California and try rural living. Ashland seemed to fit better for us work wise and raising children so we settled and lived here since. Joanne, my past wife, who co-managed the Jessel House, worked for OSF for 17 years so we were quite involved in the theater and plays. While living in Southern Oregon I worked at various jobs in the valley and retired from counseling at RCC. In California I was working in corporate marketing research and sales.

Why tim rutter chose Ashland

When we moved to Ashland in 1978 we lived in the house next door to the Jessel House and met the several different members of the Jessel family over the years. On one occasion we took one of our sons to see Alma, Susie's daughter that was trying to keep up the healing. I mentioned I would be interested to purchasing it if they ever wanted to sell. In 1986 they did and I thought of making it a travelers accommodation with the history of Susie Jessel kept alive. Initially, it just consisted of one unit while we lived upstairs. Over the years we expanded the Jessel House for visitors to Ashland and I built the house behind to live in. Its always been such a special property with its history and location in the heart of Ashland.

What makes this house unique

Being close to town, theaters and SOU while still being in a residential area makes it a place one can walk if they chose. The season creek which flows almost year round with TID water during the summer gives it a almost rural feeling.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being highest) I would give it a 3+.
It is adequate and furnished.
If I rented to the public I would want the place to meet
my own standards, such as doors with latches (inside), the main bathroom door took
an effort to close/latch, the toaster needs replacing, more guest friendly notes (like for the TV stations list)
the twin beds and the master bedroom bed were too hard (cheap ?).
The house history items in the hall were informative. Quiet, nice neighborhood.
The listing was accurate and pictures showed what is - well.
It was clean and adequately furnished.
Recommend The Peerless Restaurant.
