Wonderful Base For Tourism

My exchange student and I had a wonderful stay at this location. The unit was spacious, extremely well furnished and clean. The shower was especially pleasant, with a nicely tiled floor. It was the basement unit of a brickfaced multistoried townhouse, one of many in a row. Several of the appliances (stove/refrigerator) were a grade above what we thought we would see upon arrival. The area was interesting, a pleasant residential area six blocks south of the Mall that was clearly an attempt to recreate a community that had been traumatized by urban renewal 50 years ago. There was a nearby Safeway market and CVS. The Arena Theater is a 5 minute walk South. There were churches and schools in the immediate area and a upscale highrise next door; the area seems stable and diverse. Government office buidings are within two- three blocks to the North; there are several restaurants, Pizzerias, coffeeshops and breakfast bars to service the employees. There is a Metro station (L'Enfant) just to the north but we found it just as convenient to walk everywhere, as we spent most of our time around the Mall. The DC Waterfront is literally almost out the door to the right, with several seafood options. The unit also has many brochures and books on local tourism options.
Our only caveats are minor. I found it impossible to work the television in my bedroom, but that is only because I didn't take the time to recontact our gracious hostess, who was very helpful in all other matters. Instead, after a busy day, I just read, or watched it from the family room. In addition, as the heat was controlled by the homeowners upstairs, the unit was somewhat cool (It was February!) We made excellent use of the two electric spaceheaters, just making sure not to overload the circuits (do not use the microwave at the same time!)
Overall, I would highly recommend the unit and location for anyone who desires great accomodations near the heart of the city!
