Comfortable, spacious pied-à-terre just:
-- 6 blocks from the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum,
-- 8 blocks to the Smithsonian Castle,
-- 1 block from Washington’s Southwest Waterfront, and
-- a15-minute walk to the Tidal Basin’s cherry blossom trees!
Or hop on the Metro at the L’Enfant Plaza subway hub – 4 blocks away – to get to Arlington Memorial Cemetery, the National Zoo, the White House or U.S. Capitol in minutes.
A new grocery store, drugstore, and other shops are four blocks away – and so is a Capital Bikeshare docking station, where you can rent a bike then drop it off wherever you’re going – or return one that you picked up from elsewhere.
Our daylight basement means plenty of light but the apartment stays cool, even in DC’s humid summers. The new kitchen is fully equipped. . . the new travertine+marble bathroom has a step-in shower. . . a spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed and and flat screen TVs in the LR and BR make this a haven after a hectic day.
A reserved parking space – a rarity in the city – opens other options for easily getting around town.
At dusk, listen for the ship’s horn as the Odyssey dinner cruise pulls out of the nearby marina. . . stay in and grill on the enclosed back patio (shared with fellow VRBO guests upstairs). . . stroll to DC’s floating fish market for the freshest seafood in town. . . book theater tickets for a memorable evening at the stunning Arena Stage showplace two blocks away. . . or head to nearby restaurants:
* Cantina Marina is a fun neighborhood watering hole and restaurant on the water where the Sequoia (once the presidential yacht) is docked
* Phillips Seafoood and other reliable favorites also line the waterfront
* The Mandarin Oriental Hotel (whose five-star elegance draws foreign dignitaries and VIPs) has a choice of restaurants
* A mile north, Gallery Place/Chinatown is one of Washington’s nightlife and dining destinations -- and where the Caps and Wizards play
A Supreme Court Chief Justice was the first owner of our house, and the neighborhood remains home to many long-time residents. While you’re here, why not join them in the conclusion that – with everything else to do in DC – there is no reason to waste time commuting!
Location is prime! Family of 4 stayed! Plenty of room! No car... Waterside station very close. Has resturants and grocery store! Perfect place to stay when visiting D.C.!!!
This was a wonderful place to stay for our family of 4 while touring DC for the weekend. It had everything we needed (off-street parking, full kitchen, etc.), and was in a convenient location. This apartment was a comfortable alternative to a busy hotel. The owner was very helpful providing necessary & helpful information about the DC area.
Our stay here was great. My girlfriend and I spent a few days In our nation's capitol and this place allowed us to be within walking distance of everything.
In addition to the great location, this spot was super clean and we'll decorated. If I could describe it in one word it would be "cozy".
I loved this place. The location was perfect, it was comfortable, had everything we needed and you can't beat the parking for DC! If I'm back in DC in warmer months, I would love to stay again and enjoy the outdoor patio. The hosts were very helpful and they have many DC books and handouts to look through to help plan your day.
I spent four nights here while in DC for an event. I'm very familiar with DC, but I'm tired of expensive hotels in noisy parts of town. This apartment is in a quiet, mostly residential area, and I commuted to my event by walking and using the Metro just like thousands of DC residents do. This apartment was much less than the cost of a hotel, and the parking space with the apartment saved me the cost of downtown parking. I sill had business downtown after checking out, but I drove my car to a Metro station and, again, used the Metro to get downtown. The apartment is about a 12-minute walk to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station. The apartment itself was everything I needed--clean, comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen. I didn't need it, but there is a new-looking washer-dryer combination. I would probably recommend a more spacious alternative for a familyeric four or more, but for one or two people, I'm not sure how you could do better, and I would recommend it. Deborah is a very responsive owner. I had no problems, but she was quick to answer questions. The description of the apartment is accurate.
I stayed two weeks at this English basement apartment. It was for work, and only me there except for a couple of days my husband came down, and it was more than spacious.
There's parking right near the door, but if you are without a car there are bus stops and Metro stations nearby, along with a grocery, CVS and a few restaurants.
There seemed to be every conceivable thing you might need or want already stocked, so no need to buy a whole box of salt to cook a meal.
DC was experiencing record cold temperatures while I was there, but the apartment held two large space heaters in addition to the furnace ducts, so areas could be heated quickly. The walled garden behind is very pretty (though not useful at 0 degrees!
The huge construction project two blocks away to rebuild the waterfront did not cause any car or foot traffic problems (or noise). When that is done, this apartment will probably cost triple.
The city itself is always worth spending time in. This apartment would suit a wide variety of travelers who'd like much more space and many more comforts than a hotel can provide.
The owner was quickly responsive to any questions. I'd love to have the chance to stay again.
