Grandma's unit is ideal for those that want the freedom to enjoy all that the Osa has to offer on a budget. The guest house is in our gated and walled garden in a residential part of town. The guest house is more than 40m from our main house to offer you support and security and still give you privacy. Tour operators are abundant, stores and restaurants are easily accessible by foot.Countless trails and beaches to explore on your own or with a guide. The garden is a birders delight. You can cook meals and prepare picnics in your own home away from home.. The beach is less than a five minute walk from the guest house.
The hosts are long time Drake Bay residents with almost 3 decades in the tourism industry. in the area. This Gringa/Tico couple can offer you a stress-free vacation by providing tips and support where you may need it. Often times visitors are unsure how to connect the transportation or how to book certain tours in advance. We have the experience and we can do this for you.
This vacation rental is ideal for nature lovers with the comforts of town. The location is secure and quiet. The rental borders a forests area that is a natural corridor for monkeys, sloths, scarlet macaws, and MORE. This is an economical option for otherwise expensive paradise. The resource of the hosts is also invaluable.
The guest house was built for my mother- a writer and a painter. Just close enough to the main house for security but just far enough for privacy.
Our stay at Mango St. Casita was just what we hoped for. It’s a sweet little house, next door to owners’ house, but out of sight—sufficiently private. We had our own little patio that backed up onto a patch of jungle, where we saw birds, butterflies and cute little lizards – but not the sloths or monkeys other guests sometime see! Owners Nichole and/or Mario would stop by every day to see if we needed help organizing anything, or finding food—I had some of the best fresh fish I’ve ever had, when Mario found us some red snapper that had just been caught that day! They helped arrange trips to Corcovado, snorkeling, the night hike (fabulous!), and a private bird-watching walk (Carlos was great!). We loved having our own little place, and felt very taken care of as well. The house is a 5 minute walk from the boat landing, or to the collection of little restaurants and tiny tiendas in town. You can also walk from town down the coast, in the jungle with ocean views and sweet little beaches, for as far as you want. We had a great time, and would happily come stay here again!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Casita. The beautiful setting, very comfortable and nicely equipped interior, and helpful hosts make this a fantastic choice for staying in Drake Bay. We highly recommend the Casita for a couple or small family.
Casita was clean and bright with all the amenities. Mario was a gracious and helpful host. The tours he set up for us were second to none. We will be back
We are a family with young children, ages 5 and 2, so were looking for "home" style lodging in a very natural setting while in Costa Rica. This place was perfect! We stayed for 1 week at the "Casita" in Drake Bay. From the time we booked online, owner Nichole was very helpful via email with arranging our water taxi from Sierpe and advising us on how best to travel to/from the hard-to-reach Drake Bay. We had a rental car (out of San Jose) for the first week of our trip and left it parked (for a very reasonable $6/day) without incident at the taxi dock in Sierpe. Lots of other travelers were doing the same, which gave us peace of mind. The taxi ride was about 45 min long, interesting for the kids, shaded, and cost $45 for the 4 of us. MUCH more economical than flying to Drake, given that our rental car was pretty cheap ($30/day). Mario (co-owner) picked us up on the beach with a taxi for our bags, right on time (it's a small place, so there's good communication between the boat captain and his frequent customers). It's about a 3 min car ride, 10 min walk from the beach up hill to the casita, which is in a sort of walled compound with main house, gardens adjacent to raw rain forest, and your guest home. The guest house has 1 bedroom with a queen bed and a full futon (which worked well for our boys to share). The bedroom has a really cool outdoor bathroom, with 3/4 height walls so you can look out into the rain forest and watch monkeys while you shower. There is a lovely patio off the bedroom ideal for morning coffee and bird/animal watching. We saw sloths, howler and capuchin monkeys, parotts, large iguana, and inumerable colorful birds from the patio. The kitchen/living room is spacious and open, with a small futon sofa and TV/DVD player and table for 4. We cooked all of our meals in Drake (easier with the kids) and found the kitchen quite adequate. The walk to the Cocolito beach was lengthy for the kids (about 45 min through the forest on tricky-when-wet trails), so we put our 2 year old in a pack carrier and just went slowly with our 5 year old on foot. The pay off was a totally pristine, all-to-ourselves gorgeous beach with tide pools and countless hermit crabs, so the kids were happy for hours. Would bring lunch if you can take the sun! Shade is best in the early part of the day. The beach on Drake Bay itself is also not bad if you walk a little way off from the main village (this was our afternoon activity, going to the "close" beach). Great place!!
I really cant' say enough good things about this place and Nichole and Mario. Nichole was so patient during our booking and the many subsequent emails I sent her. Both her and Mario offered and booked us many wonderful tours and were readily available to answer any questions or concerns we had. We went fishing one day and Mario met us down at the beach, carried our prized fish back to the house, cleaned it and prepared fantastic ceviche for us along with fried plantains and fried fish. The place is in a great location, easy access to the bay, restaurants and the grocery stores. Drake Bay itself is incredibly small so you won't need a car. The place itself is immaculately kept with plenty of room to feel right at home. Thank you for everything Nichole and Mario!
My wife and I stayed with our 14-year old son for 1 week. Nichole arranged the water taxi, and then re-arranged it at the last minute when we arrived at Sierpe Dock earlier than anticipated. Mario met us at the beach and transported us directly to the property. Nichole took us to the shops when we arrived, arranged beer delivery, laundry (for a very reasonable price) and helped us with all of the tours and arrangements so that we never missed a trip or connection. The property was perfect for us and we saw lots of wildlife in the garden including toucans, hummingbirds (nesting), howler monkeys, sloths, geckos, anoles and scarlet macaws. This is a great place to stay in Drake Bay, and Drake Bay was our favourite destination in almost a month spent in Costa Rica. The trip to Sirena Ranger station was only beaten by the dive trips to Isla Del Cano (we saw sharks, whales, dolphins, turtles, flying fish, eels, sea snakes, enormous stingrays and devil rays). The night tour is also spectacular. This place is an adventure not just a holiday and this property is a great choice as a base for exploring, owned by very nice, very helpful people. When we return to Costa Rica, this will be the first place we book.
