Nerja lies at the foot of the Sierra Almijara mountains, which provide an ever-changing and ever interesting backdrop. Protected by these mountains, Nerja enjoys an especially mild climate all year round. During the day, the views from the Balcon de Europa, in the centre of town, are breathtaking. At night, the sun sets behind the mountains turning them into enigmatic silhouettes.
When in Nerja, it seems as though time has stood still. Some of the streets are still cobbled and you can see teams of oxen ploughing the fields, men riding side-saddle on their mules and goats wandering freely on the land. At the same time, Nerja has all the facilities of a modern resort. There is a large variety of restaurants and selection of supermarkets. The shops are varies and friendly places to browse.
There are several tranquil beaches, some quieter than others, being secluded with rock pools in which to explore Marine life. Burriana is the longest and most famous of them all!
