Perfect Studio

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed in this unit from 10/17/14 - 10/24/14 and are happy we did! If you are expecting a 5 star resort, this isn't the place for you. This condo was exactly as described - the only surprise was the view! WOW! It is breathtaking, the photos on here do not do it justice. Sitting out on your balcony watching the sunrise is a must while you are here!

The bed was comfortable & it was nice to have the A/C. It was very hot & sunny while we were there so coming back to a cool room was a plus. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook some meals at home. We ate breakfast every morning in the condo & used the outside grill one night to make dinner. Loved the grocery store right in Red Hook, as well as Cost-U-Less which was about 15 minutes away.

There are 2 pools in the condo complex - we used both while we were there to cool off & they were both never crowded. We often had the smaller one right behind the condo to ourselves. The bar & restaurant on site were closed for the month of October, but the BBQ food truck at the entrance to the condo (Off The Grid) was delicious!! $15 for all you can eat ... we ate there twice during our stay! There was a pizza place recommended by the women who lived next door that delivered. I forget the name (maybe Senor Pizza?), but we did order from them one night - free delivery! It was decent pizza, nothing to rave about but if you don't want to go out every night, they were the only option we could find for delivery.

The location of this condo is great. You are just minutes from Red Hook where we went most nights for dinner. Lots of restaurants to choose from & all of the ones we tried were delicious! We also liked that it was close to the ferry to St. John.

We drove down to Sapphire Beach one day to check out the beach. The beach is beautiful & there was some good snorkeling! We forgot our snorkel stuff at home and were happy to see snorkels in the condo for use! We brought them with us to various beaches & saved money by not having to rent. I do recommend having a car to explore other beaches. We loved Coki Beach which was just a short drive from the condo. Megans Bay & Brewers Bay were also wonderful.

If you are looking for a place to stay, I would recommend this unit!

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great time and thanks for the nice review.
I was not aware the bar would be closed or I could have warned about that. You certainly know how to maximise your vacation.
We always have a great time there doing mostly the stuff you did. Its a great Island for that type of vacation. I do try to describe the Island and the Condo as best and acurate as I can.

Perfect vacation rental!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed at Eamon's vacation rental in Sapphire Village for one week in mid August, 2014.

Sapphire Village is a resort, located just minutes from Red Hook and Charlotte Amalie. The location is absolutely superb whether you want to relax at the resort which features two pools, a bar/grill pub style restaurant, a marina, and a beach, all within minutes walking distance. If you don't want to stay on the resort, I recommend you rent a vehicle; you can get anywhere on the island within an hour drive, allowing you to visit all the beautiful beaches. One thing to note is that the resort is built on a giant hill, so if you go to the beach, be prepared to hike back up that hill!

The rental itself was perfect for the two of us. Unlike some properties listed on VRBO, Eamon's place is *exactly* as pictured. The unit was very clean when we arrived and had no bugs. The unit includes a full (small) kitchen, so cooking meals is very easy to do, and much cheaper than eating out several times a day. However, the grocery stores (Cost-U-Less, Walgreens, K-Mart, and Food Center) are all about 15 minutes away, so you'll have to plan accordingly.

The rental is also well stocked with items for activities, including a small library of books (including a *very* useful Frommer's guide to the Virgin Islands), and snorkel gear. We had brought our own masks and snorkels, but being able to borrow fins for free was a very generous and unexpected perk!

While visiting, we were able to visit Magens Bay, Hull Bay, Sapphire Beach, Coki Beach, Lindquist Bay, Turtle Cove (Buck Island) and Bolongo Bay. Of those, our favorite local snorkel destination was Coki Beach, the water was beautiful and the reefs were plentiful; however, Lindquist, Sapphire, Hull, and Turtle Cove were very close runners up. Many beaches offer water sport rentals (snorkel sets, kayaks, stand-up-paddle board, etc.), but Bolongo Bay was the only location that rented small sailboats (Hobie Catamarans).

I rated this rental with 5 stars because it truly met or exceeded all our expectations, and Eamon (and Alice, the property manager) were both very helpful. We would recommend this rental to anyone considering visiting the island.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the Nice Review. You seem to have had a great holiday and got about the Island, which is famous for its beaches.
I also like Coki but it is not for everyone.
I try to describe the Condo as it is and I am glad you liked it.

Best Bang For the Buck on St. Thomas

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for a nice condo with a fantastic view this is the place. St. Thomas is expensive and my wife searched accommodations for weeks before finding this condo. Without a doubt you will not find a better place to stay for the money on the island. We found the condo inviting and comfortable. The money we saved was spent on renting a car to get out and explore, a couple of sailing trips, and dinners out! When we go back to St. Thomas we will stay here again! Two thumbs up!

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great time. As you say costs are high there and services at the Resorts are expensive, but I try to keep costs down as much as possible, and still give a good deal. I certainly love it every time I go to St Thomas.

This is a nice studio that was perfect for me and a girlfriend to spend 10 days together and make our husbands miss us! LOL. I loved the location of this condo. The little town of Redhook was our favorite place to find a cold drink and we were not disappointed with any of the restaurants. We felt save and secure. The sapphire beach is probably the best for snorkeling on the island. We rented a car and snorkeled just about every beach that was marked good snorkeling on the map. We bought our own snorkeling gear, but the are several sets in the closet. The pool is a few steps outside the door and is clean and we used it often during our stay. This is a small studio, but VERY affordable. If I decide to return to St Thomas, I will certainly look to see if this place is available. Thanks Eamon...We had fun!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the good review. I certainly love it everytime I go down there. I was there few weeks ago and left some snorkelling gear. It is not easy to cover all sizes so I usually recommend guests bring their own. You seem to have got about snorkelling. I like Coki Beach, but its very local and not for everyone. Thanks and come down again.

OK but where is Sapphire?

  • 3 of 5
The rental was worth the money - nothing extravagant but awesome for those of us on a budget. I was surprised at where Sapphire Beach is headed. It used to have so much to do there - great bars but everything is closed. Hopefully they bring it all back. But again, good unit for cost.

Owner's Response: My Condo is in Sapphire Village not Sapphire Beach.
You seem to have given me a bad review based on facilities in a neighboring resort. This is quite unfair.
Sapphire Grill is excellent in Sapphire Village resort.

Great simple place to relax

  • 5 of 5
We were very pleased with our stay. The place was clean and simple and we felt comfortable. We are "do it yourself-ers" so we liked setting our own pace on our vacation and this property was a nice place to serve as a base camp. The property is very close to the town of Red Hook so we could find everything we needed (snacks, drinks, etc). As many have noted, there is a bbq stand setup at the entrance to Sapphire beach and it was very good. How can you beat "all you can eat" bbq for $15? We loved that the property was somewhat convenient to the east end activities yet far enough away from the big city so traffic was lighter and it was quiet. We liked the food at the Sapphire Beach grill and everyone there was very friendly. We had to do laundry during our stay and the lady in the office was friendly and helped us (you need to buy tokens and they're not there on weekends).

We rented a car from Thrifty and they let us take it to St John. It was just a small toyota but it made it around just fine. Don't be scared of driving on the left side of the road. I was nervous but honestly it's kinda hard to screw up since there's so much traffic on St Thomas and the roads are pretty simple. I'm very glad we rented a car instead of cramming into taxi's and waiting around for them. My opinion was St John was easier to drive on than St Thomas. Mainly because there was less traffic and the roads were in better shape. The mistake I made driving was when we decided to go for a driving adventure on the west end of the island. There's basically nothing over there for tourists and the roads did get a little scary with the elevation changes. On the east end things are easier. I should also say that I brought my Garmin Nuvi gps and it was a life saver. It knew where everything was and made driving very easy.

All in all we were very satisfied. The condo is simple but has everything you'd need and the price was fantastic.
